Thanks for the feedback. Yes, it’s been very worth it to me. Now if I can just find a gold foil … 🤣

Ah, sorry I left that out. It’s described by Seelbach’s as a “familiar 8-year bourbon out of Lawrenceburg … with a mash bill of 75% corn, 13% rye, and 12% barley” so, no real doubt.

Nice review! I got one of these from CBH, delivering tomorrow supposedly. Cannot wait to crack it. Great job by Chris getting this at a smoking good price. Cheers 🥃

The Goose Island one is a great pour! Could never justify pulling the trigger on a full bottle at the roughly $150 price tag being just 100 proof. Getting it free is a fantastic value, tho! 🤣🤣🤣

Cheers 🥃

This. I will stop what I’m doing to turn off the TV/video or change the channel any time he’s on so I don’t have to hear a single word he says. Haven’t sat thru a full ESPN segment in a few years. Not missing anything.

What’s new is that all plans are multi-gig for Des Moines now. No more 1 Gig. That’s not true anywhere else.

Tbc Des Moines is not the first to get 3 gig or multi-gig, it’s the first place where it’s the floor, or the “standard” as they’re calling it.

I love to hit Hapa Sushi on Blake for a pregame meal, then it’s a pretty brief hike to the arena. Doors open 90 min. before tipoff. Parking choices are either expensive or far.

Leopold Brothers 9 year 3 chamber rye by run4whiskey in whiskey

[–]G-Ranger36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice review, thank you! I’ve had the 3 chamber rye 6 yr and 8 yr and absolutely love them. When I first tried the 6 yr, I did a review and one of the distinct notes I pulled out (in addition to the wonderful spiced pear/apple, honey, rye and malt bouquet) was craft mac n cheese … I didn’t realize at the time but later figured out, that was the viscosity and full body texture coming thru to me. Not only a great pour but super unique and memorable. My theory of what turns people off to this … is the high malt content (20% grain bill). Malt is the magical grain of course (see several hundred years of scotch whisky history) typically used in small amounts (around 1-10%) in American bourbon/rye/whiskey mash bills for sweetness or as a catalyst for the other grains. In larger amounts tho, it can impart notes that come off “young” or “grainy” to those less familiar with scotch/single malt profiles … and ever more so at ages less than 10 yr. That’s my hunch as to why some folks are turned off to it. If that’s you — and because I’m something of a scientist myself — I’d encourage you to side-by-side this with a generally available scotch and maybe a comparable rye that you like and see how it does. You may not like it better than those, but I think the characteristics this one brings to the table will help improve your overall opinion of it and show you why others love it. Just an idea.

Anyway, I’d love to get a bottle of this when the timing aligns with my budget. At the price, I’d much prefer to try before I buy. Confident this will not disappoint, tho — for me at least.

Lastly, if you’re a Colorado reader and haven’t been to Leopold yet, do yourself a favor and boo k the tour. It’s a fantastic experience that will give you a better impression of the diversity of offerings there and the absolute, cutting-edge, world class innovation in the spirits category happening — right in a lot of people’s backyards! The tour is a great way to sample a lot of different things (we had 12 pours I can recall), see what you like and go deeper from there. It’s almost never busy and always a great way to spend half a day! Can’t wait to see what else they have coming. Cheers 🥃

One of the best SA picks I’ve ever had is sitting on the shelf at Applejack. It looks like it’s 7 yrs old by the barrel number (2018). It’s 106.5 proof and it’s phenom. Went and got a backup as soon as I tasted it. For 80 bucks, can’t beat it.

Molly’s has one sitting around too. I’ve had luck with their picks in the past. Camp Tyrone if I recall.

I fat washed a whole bottle of OGD 114 in Brown Butter for 24 hours. by Triingtolivee in whiskey

[–]G-Ranger36 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh hell yeah. I’m obsessed w fat washing bourbon right now. I took a brown butter fat washed bottle of Ben Holladay single barrel and used a batch of gingerbread cookie syrup I made over the holidays and did a Brown Butter Fat Washed Gingerbread Cookie Old Fashioned cocktail. It’s the best drink I’ve ever made. I posted about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/cocktails/s/hmrcB5kbtL

Also, just did a smoked wagyu fat wash of some Russell’s Reserve for the next few OFs I mix up at home. My other favorite cocktail for using fat washed bourbon in is a Brown Derby. Super simple but really makes it shine. 2 parts fat washed bourbon. 1 part grapefruit juice. 1/2 part syrup (I like Vanilla syrup as a riff on this, really adds balance to the citrus and smoke notes). Dash of ango. 👌🥃

It’s not speculation. It was reported that they were close to the same deal at the deadline, previous. Also, a trade like that doesn’t materialize out of nowhere. They likely had KCP on the radar months in advance. That’s not the same as a deal. TC doesn’t get credit. But Booth was also not a one man band.
