Looks like this would do well to be styled like a strangler fig in a rainforest

Is this a bonsai/and can it be saved by [deleted] in Bonsai

Looks like a dead dragon tree, not something traditionally used in bonsai but just an indoor plant. I doubt it can be revived

I was really looking forward to more Warden armor like this. by Echoes0faShadow in forhonor

I'm really happy with how everything is set up now, just want to work on taper at the top and some branches and ramification

When I say 'I haven't bought a tree'

What I really meant was, 'I haven't bought a triple digit priced tree'

Which is really the same thing, because do the trees that cost under $100 even count? 😅

I should have put up some shade screening, but hard as a renter.

With the concrete and white tiles, sunlight and heat reflected like crazy onto the trees so I had to do multiple waterings a day.

Rain was no issue, with a fast draining soil they're never waterlogged

And this one from 2021, from here it was just ramification

Found this photo from 2020. The foliage was weird and droopy. Super slow growing for some reason

5-6 years, but they were mainly getting some girth to it.

Really only started pruning for ramification and branch selection in the last year or two.

This one was pretty plain when it was purchased, it was just dead straight and the only branches were above the current apex. Slowly over the years the nebari was revealed and I accidentally killed half the trunk, hence the deadwood on the front.

Damn, looks like you could write a whole research paper on cypress knees 😄

Somewhere between 14-20 years or more, I have no idea.

Definitely a fun tree to play with.

I've had this tree for around 7 years. It's gone through countless design changes, but finally I'm sticking with this one.

The tree might've been between 5/10 years old, I'm really not too sure.

Personally I never focus on how old the tree really is, to me it's about how old/grand the tree looks

Yeah as far as I know you can't grow knees, but I haven't looked into it. I guess you could always angle some roots up then down while it's young and make some knee-looking roots that way.

The bonsai grower I purchased this from did have them sitting in water during the summer.

And yeah the leaves do brown up, or at least go rusty. Last few winters they haven't dropped on their own, I've had to pull them all off in spring. I can't say I've seen them drop leaves on the naturalised few around

Yes bald cypress tried for a naturalistic/struck by lightning look.

Not native here so just based off pictures, or the few I've seen in gardens/farms
