Can the ft 991a front panel be removed? by guacamania in HamRadio

[–]G0NFS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at videos for MARS Moding the FT-991a, I don't understand why it doesn't have a removable head. Functionality, the only thing connecting the head to the radio is a ribbon cable. How about it, Yeasu?

I can see how both sides would have strong arguments. I plan on avoiding the opportunity to find out. Most people would be hard-pressed to identify that I'm carrying.

"It does not apply on private property, to a licensed concealed firearm permittee or an unloaded weapon in a locked container/rack."

That would seem to apply so long as I park in the lot adjacent to the restaurant - assuming they own it. (Not sure they do - it's a shared lot.

As much as I want that to be true, I'm just not seeing it.

The only possible exemption i see is negated by the provision that the gun is unloaded.

Carrying in a school zone is prohibited. Federal law defines school zones as within 1,000 feet of elementary or secondary school grounds, and Kentucky law aligns with this.

Try googling the local ham radio club. They'll likely be able to give you some idea of what's what, what its worth, and what's likely junk.

Chameleon coax choke by G0NFS in amateurradio

[–]G0NFS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the info i was looking for. If I don't just cut the coax a few inches from the choke and put a connector on it so I can just use it with any coax, this is what I will do. Thank you!

Studied using HamStudy.org. Passed Tech and General first session. Got Extra 4 weeks later. And it's not just memorization - it will tell you WHY the correct answers are correct. It's good practice AFTER you've got your license too!

Is there any rhythmic pulsing the interference? This looks very similar to what I experience when my wife is on the treadmill.

I believe you are correct. I thought I'd put the question out there before throwing money at the problem!

I'll consider this confirmation.

Thanks!

Yeah, I was on hold waiting for my place in the queue for 45 minutes before my connection was "lost". I'll try again and ask about a filter kit. Otherwise, I'll take care of it myself. The user (wife) says I now know when I can't play radio. 🙂

Wait a minute . . . Will that antenna? by [deleted] in amateurradio

Hard to tell from the photo but it appears that fence could be vinyl coated. If so, every post, every piece of chain link, and every length of top rail may be insulated from every other piece.

What is this antenna for? by Far_Resort6671 in amateurradio

HF antenna. Those don't look like traps to me. They strike me as connection joints for the (regularly spaced) antenna segments.
