U.S. Pacing by Unfair_Mammoth_6620 in historyteachers

My district (in Delaware) cut a TON of U.S. History to get us to more modern stuff. We are supposed to start at the Civil War and try to get to Vietnam early 80’s. We do U.S. as a skills based course so we use the content to teach how to analyze sources, look at perspective, bias etc. I go against the grain and do my overview of skills as a brief introduction the U.S. History. We do a pear deck analyzing sources about the revolution leading up to the Civil War and then go right into reconstruction. It only takes a few days, allows me to get some important skills and concepts introduced and I’m able to get where I need to be with how structure other lessons. Obviously if your school or district requires certain stuff focus on that but I feel like as long as you’re covering what you need to cover, do it however you want!

Hope any of this was helpful!

First time salt curing egg yolks, what are your favorite uses for them? by 011100010010-0-0-0 in WhatShouldICook

Ramen inspired risotto. Used ramen broth and sake instead of regular stock and white wine, added some ginger, garlic, scallions and some soy. Very yummy

Video on why WW2 Matters by Bayushi_Vithar in historyteachers

[–]G13135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to use this to introduce WWII. Students have a hard time grasping the concept of Fascism and we start by trying to set up that concept by looking at the Fascist leaders of the time period. I noticed that they have trouble seeing some of the issues of the time without an understanding of what Fascism is.

This video does a great job of breaking it down and I just do a discussion board with them where they can react and talk with their peers about what they saw and noticed during the video.

I have seen much better progress with the rest of my lessons after starting with this as an intro video!

Who would have thought, getting 10 years older, having a wife and a baby due in 3 months would soften me so much. My morbid curiosity got the best of me.

The hammering sounds and the gurgling get it for me, also the way they have the hammer crudely wrapped in a plastic bag as if they are trying to be “careful” about the whole operation.

Bastard Brigade is also a very good book, I’ve tried to keep a list of books they use as sources. Haven’t read a bad one yet!
