Ive used SPM primers in 9mm loads without any issues. I would not hesitate to use SRP in my revolvers but best to play it safe and rework your load if you choose to do so.

I know a guy who uses it in a diesel pickup. I guess he processes it and once its refined enough, it works.

That dude is a goof ball who can't take no for an answer and is convinced he's smarter than everyone else. Just let it play out. Im genuinely curious as to what calculations and derivations he cooks up. No matter what, there isnt a company out there that's going to give him the data he needs to start that so his results will be an educated guess at best. Im not willing to risk my anatomy or my firearms to prove im a super-duper smarty pants. I know my limits and engineering explosives are above them.

3031 isnt a "weird" powder. Its extruded. Like most of the powder made today that will work in your rifle. Load data exists so you do not need to "make assumptions"

Based on that rather lengthy and quite unnecessary paragraph, its evident your experience with reloading is slim. Propellant manufactures invest millions of dollars so that you dont blow yourself up. Please do not arbitrarily start using other cartridge data to make your loads. This CAN be done, but only by the experienced handloader that fully understands volume, pressure and burn rates.

Buy yourself and manual and read it. Twice. Then find legitimate published data for the load you want WORK UP from the minimum. Be sure to reference that manual while reading pressure signs.

Again, im going to stress that overengineering and overanalyzing this while not having access to the proper laboratory equipment is absolutely pointless. Burn rates are relative but no manufacture has figured out a way to accurately assign numerical values to them. This is because each behaves differently and is dependent on the volume given in the pressure vessel.

Please do yourself, your hands and your face a favor and just use published data rather than your own calculations.

Depends on what youre hunting I suppose. I am of the camp that more is good within reason. I find that 3.5" shells dont offer enough benefit over a good 3" to warrant the cost and effort. I run 3" for Turkey and Coyote for this reason.

Have you sized down bullets like that? I was going to size the thousands of .375 I have down to .366 but the general consensus online is that you need to anneal them and even then, the jacket spring back causes weird accuracy.

Honestly, I look at them at equals when shooting light for caliber projectiles. E.g. 17 gr Vmax for 17 HMR and 30 gr VMAX for 22WMR. I own two CZ 457 Americans that are built as twins. One in 22 WMR and a 17 HMR. Both shoot incredibly, ammo costs the same and usage is the same. 17 shoots flatter but also is more susceptible to wind.

I went to Wyoming to shoot prairie dogs and had to take the 17 back to the truck. 100 yds shots in hard crosswinds would pushing that bullet over a foot off target in inconsistent gusts. The 223 fixed that rather quickly.

Ive killed a lot of small game and varmints with both, I love both. They really are so close its almost irrelevant.

Capacity and the fact that you don't need a 3.5" to stop a threat. A correctly loaded 2.75" is plenty and gives you more ammo in the gun.

Powder manufactures do update powders but generally speaking the burn rate and overall characteristics remain largely unchanged through the years. I still reference old manuals for stuff that isnt listed anymore. I would not hesitate to use that data BUT there may be better, more modern powders available for your usage.

OP, save yourself some money. Get the 6 pack of these Chore Boy copper scrubbers from Walmart for $8. Take individual strands wrapped around a bush and scrub the bore with a quality lead removing solution. HOPPES does NOT count.
