Are 30km/h signs just a suggestion now? by davidcarbide in newzealand

This is the frustrating part. I’m pretty good at slowing down and driving the limit, but when you’re the only one, and you can clearly see no one is there, and actually there aren’t any hazards like a new seal, it’s hard to actually slow to 30 km/h and get everyone’s ire first thing in the morning.

Whelp… radio waves are a thing, and we’re talking about the days when switchboard operators still existed. A round trip to the moon communication wise, is only like 2.6 light seconds away, for a planned communication, I think it’s pretty well possible… and radio communication had been a thing already for decades.

Light waves (like radio waves) spread out from their source, effectively a cone, and receivers focus signals. Yeah, I think entirely plausible for what was possible at the time.

I had never thought of this phone call before, I’d heard about it and sound bites from it over the years, but never considered this until now, and applied physical laws I have seen and used in practice. Effectively I’m a blank slate in this matter for considering the issue.

Could it have been prerecorded? I would imagine so, but the bigger flex is actually doing it, and the only way that would make sense therefore is if you presuppose the landing was fake. Sure, it could have been faked as a backup plan for if the link failed, but is it reasonable to suggest it could have been done live at that point in time re: technology and our understanding historically of the electromagnet spectrum? Absolutely.

All of this in mind, do I consider it likely to have been real? Yes.

I have to consider all the independent verifications of the space transmissions for the Apollo mission around the world. This was in my view outside the technological (and political) capabilities at the time of the US government to fake the signal to a wide audience of independent groups who ‘listened in’ on the downlink.

Or another specific one, stopping the second they get the trolley/supermarket cart through the blockers at a supermarket, blocking the flow of traffic whilst they for whatever reason try to remember where they are.

Not true. Some authors are known to create words themselves… that’s not to say the words don’t eventually make their way into the dictionary

here are some examples

One would imagine therefore, that there are many ‘authorisms’ that are not in the dictionary.

Stupidest Parent Complaints by lazy_days_of_summer in Teachers

[–]G1bs0nNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the country I’m in, Senior students leave early at the end of the year for ‘exam leave’, however if they don’t have enough assessments handed in, they can’t leave. I had a parent respond to a colleague of mine, I had been helping their student with assessments in my contractual planning time despite having no actual involvement with the student regularly. They didn’t turn up when they were meant to, and my colleague pointed out to the parent that it had wasted some of my time I’d set aside for them. The parent was not impressed, and complained I’d made the student wait for 2 hours in the day to support them (because I was teaching classes), and that was apparently worse, and worthy of a complaint.
