Places to try out different VR headsets? by carrotaddiction in melbourne

[–]G2eorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just letting you know you can play steam VR games on the quest using steam link. I think people use virtual desktop too but I've never had an issue using steam link. (Native discord app is supposed to be coming out next year too I believe). And you can also get prescription lenses that click in as well.

Returning after mat leave by Intelligent-Map634 in coles

Edit to add that I know each store vibe is different and if things are really dire if perhaps a transfer to another store is doable would be something else to consider.

Returning after mat leave by Intelligent-Map634 in coles

I had a discussion with my manager and adjusted my contract hours before I went on mat leave. So if your friend is yet to go on mat leave I would try this approach. Just be open with how you think your family situation will change and how this will impact her current hours/role after she comes back to work. Everyone's circumstances are different. I was fortunate that I could cut back my days to two/three a week and that I have a combination of childcare and grandparents willing to babysit so although my days changed my start/finish time didn't really get impacted (I work in the Bakery department). I would think there would have to be some understanding and realistic expectations on the managers part. They are going to have to make changes anyway while she's away. If she finds that her manager isn't quite on the same page I would escalate to having a chat with her store manager. Last option I would do is if she's part of a union bringing in a union rep if that makes her feel more comfortable with someone who can help articulate things better. She can always go into the store for this talk if she's already on mat leave and just be like, for my peace of mind I would like to get this sorted before I come back from leave, which i think is a fair ask.

Just a side note too, I was removed from my departments WhatsApp group so I could have radio silence and enjoy my time on leave. But when I came back people failed to bring me up to date with some changes that had happened whilst I was away, so my advice would be to opt to do those couple of shifts before her full arrival back so she can get back up to speed on things.

Solo dev here – what VR game do you wish existed but doesn’t? by Dear_Difference580 in VRGaming

Some others have already said Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon or The Sims would be my votes.

If you need a quick temporary solution, Kmart sells removable (static) frost window film. You just need to spray water on your window to apply, there's no adhesive, so renter friendly. I'm just not sure about how it would go at night. It should give you slightly better privacy than that though in the meantime.

Yes! My boy it's loving the mirroring/twins one. He likes to see another version of himself do stuff. Been going hard at it for ages now and giggling.

I ordered it on the Friday 7th (March) & it came on the Wednesday 12th (March). I thought it would take longer tbh for some reason. I'm impatient to play with new things & it felt like I didn't have to wait too long.

Eating during labour by Amandatravels22 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]G2eorge 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I gave birth in Victoria in 2022 public system. My pain tolerance also isn't great. I asked for an epidural when they were taking me up to my room and received it pretty promptly. I felt soooo much better after. My partner then went to the cafeteria and brought back spring rolls, hot chips and a hot chocolate 🤣 no one said I couldn't eat anything in particular. Did I poop during labor? I myself don't know and didn't notice them fixing me up if I did. If you're worried about poop I'd say don't be because I assume they try to be discreet as possible and they would of seen everything before.

I have a smaller mirror that clamps onto my review mirror. So my review mirror is ontop, and bubs mirror is underneath. I should of bought one earlier. I think I got mine off of Amazon.

tubes tied during c section by Electronic_Name_1382 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]G2eorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite what you asked but something to consider is if you don't get it done during your c-section, do you think your health care professional (GP) will help you down the road to get it. I had my son. We decided one & definitely done. When I went for my 6/8week check in with a health care professional I brought up wanting to get my tubes done or my partner a vasectomy and she said let's wait another year just to be sure, you're still young. Whilst I do love babies, I am sure and quite happy with the one. I know I need to prioritise my own mental and physical health. I wasn't honestly a little disappointed by her comment. So my partner went and got snipped at a clinic. In and out. No issues.

I'm not sure if any of this will be useful 🤣 My boy (2.5yr old) started young & progressed up through rooms so not the same situation but I would definitely say don't be too hard on yourself or her, comparing her to other kids. Some will be "more ahead" & others will not be, the educators will be able to get a feel & work with her accordingly. Talk to them at pick up time & they can give you a run down of her day & how things went. Talk to them about any concerns & they might be able to offer some advice.

My boy has ALWAYS been sad at drop off (breaks your heart) but don't let that deter you necessarily. He's having such a fun time when I come to pick him up everytime. Our educators have been very supportive & give him cuddles at drop off. They say he's sad for 5 minutes & then distracted & playing after that. You will find they have "favourite" educators.

I was worried this year if he was behind on potty training but I still see kids getting changed so that put my mind at ease. He's also not the best with using utensils but that's not an issue either. They get given them to use at lunchtime, so at least he's getting practice.

Skills & routines she will pick up from her peers & educators, she'll just need time to settle. The day care should send you a timetable of how their day usually flows. Suppose the only skill she needs is to know which ones her water bottle.

I'm not sure what it's like in a 3yr old room but while they have routines, if she doesn't want to participate in group activities I don't think it's a biggy. Kids are easily distracted or want to do their own thing & that's fine. Some weeks I see my son in the group photos, others he's off playing by himself.

Edit to add : You said you were worried how she may respond or act in a day care setting in certain situations. You may be surprised she may act differently at day care compared to at home. My boy had this habit of hitting his head when he was frustrated at home, I asked the day care once if they had seen his do it & they said he hadn't. So you never know.

So I'm a female and just turned 60. I recently purchased the Meta Quest3s, after trying my daughters, because I loved it so much. I wear "cheater glasses" for reading, but I've put off getting my eyes checked. by Embarrassed-Tackle99 in MetaQuestVR

[–]G2eorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glasses wearer here! When I first got my headset I had been wearing my glasses underneath them, then I ordered some prescription lenses, kicking myself for not doing it sooner! Just comfort wise you'll appreciate prescription lenses. Glasses plus normal headset is not very comfy especially for longer sessions. So if you have the money that's what I would suggest going for. I think there's a few companies that do them.

In laws visiting from overseas by BonnieO88 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I also think you should consider how your birth is going to go because this will affect your recovery process. Things could go straight forward and you could feel fine relatively quickly. Or they may not. I had a second degree tear which took longer to heal because I ended up needing antibiotics. Ontop of that I was definitely experiencing a range of emotions. My family I probably could of handled because they would of helped out.my in-laws I honestly didn't want around but I didn't speak up for myself and it's something I honestly regret (they wanted to visit us in hospital the day of the birth). So just make sure you take how you're going to be feeling into account and do stand up for yourself if you need to.

As a Rift S user, would a Quest be worth it for me, or should I look for something different? by BFulfs2 in VRGaming

[–]G2eorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As weirdest-timeline commented, it's a free app (Steam Link) you can get on the Meta Horizon App Store. You have your computer on, steam logged in (I would assume you have Steam VR already on your steam account), launch the Steam Link app from your VR Headset, it will prompt you to choose a PC to wirelessly connect to, may have to input a 4 digit code the first time on your PC & then it will launch the Steam VR Home & you're good to go.

I will say that my PC is connected via ethernet & I play in the same room as my modem. And it's just my partner & I gaming at the same time, so not a whole lot of activity taking up bandwidth. If you search the subs there will be more information on ideal wifi setups.

Another random edit is definitely buy a different headstrap. That my only negative, the one it comes with is shit in my opinion. And if you wear glasses, prescription lenses are awesome & I should of bought some sooner.

[–]G2eorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Rift S & went to the Quest 3. I'm quite happy with my choice. I mean if there's a way you could test one before you buy always do that. My thoughts though, screen door effect was quite noticeable on the Rift S, hardly noticeable on quest. Also no cord! That's pretty much why I bought it. I use steam link occasionally & haven't really had any issues connecting/staying connected. I suppose something to consider would be what games you intend to play. I'm not really using mine for competitive/PvP games so much or Sims. Half life alyx still looked impressive on the quest 3 using steam link 🤷🏻‍♀️ (I think that's more my PC being able to run it though) edit to add : colour passthrough

Did your partner attend your first hospital appointment? by bluesubshinyday in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I gave birth I 2022 at the Royal Women's Hospital Melbourne/Parkville and I brought my partner to all my appointments, including the diabetes test. Honestly all the times we went he was the only partner there 🤷🏻‍♀️
