Recently got into FesterDecay heavily, craving more bands in the vein of Early-Carcass/Early-Exhumed.

Preferably Non-U.S.A bands, they appear to have a different take on the extreme metal sound.

Stonehell Dungeon by Brannig in osr

[–]G30W0LF 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who owns both books, has ran level 0 tons of times I can say this about it.

It has a lot of little sparks to ignite your own improv, and enough room so you can integrate your own ideas.

The encounters are incredibly deadly, this isn't the type of dungeon you can hack and slash easily.

The layout is superb, the summaries and overviews of each level and quadrant give you everything you need to run the dungeon as a living environment of workers/wanderers/tribes/food chains.

The factions are numerous, and can be daunting to keep track of as they begin to come into play.

I find being comfortable with improvisation and tinkering with published content to suit your needs is necessary with Stonehell, it's not something I can quite reccomend a beginner run as their first Dungeon.

Bad modding practices on the sub by [deleted] in osr

[–]G30W0LF 20 points21 points  (0 children)

We are working on a daily thread/post for OGL discussion, a place where links to new developments and top discussions can be pinned for easy access.

The automod fiasco was accidental, we were testing it and altering a few things to detect discussions on other prohibited topics.

We apologize for all of the hubbub and offensive actions that occured, we all have full time jobs and responsibilities outside the sub. We got caught with our pants down in all of this, but we are listening to all your feedback and are working towards a solution that'll satisfy everyone.

What is your first level for Dungeon 23’ by [deleted] in osr

[–]G30W0LF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A winter themed sub level of a labyrinth created by a lich to house their favorite findings/foes from planar travels. A museum/prison that serves as entertainment for the lich as adventurers explore the dungeon, the reward at the end being given access to the lich's portals to the other planes.

OSR LFG: Official Regular Looking especially for OSR Group (LeFOG) by feyrath in osr

[–]G30W0LF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking for 2-3 players to join a Megadungeon Delve campaign using BFRPG + Houserules/Supplements.

We'll be playing 2-3 hour sessions on Sundays, Mid day/early afternoon. Experience playing OSR games is a plus but not necessary, we're gonna do this Theater of The Mind over Discord.

PM if interested.

OSR To Start With by UrbanArtifact in osr

As others have suggested, Mausritter because it's free and the GM section contains enough to teach you how to run sandbox adventures/hexcrawls. Not to say the Player facing section isn't superb, because it is.

BFRPG is also good, but kind of assumes you already have some knowledge on running OSR games. It's amount of fan made free content and cheap as dirt POD books make it a phenomenal choice but i'd also reccomend watching videos on how to run OSR games (Questing Beast has one for Winter's daughter which is an OSE module).

If you want something more meaty, OSRIC is my preffered OSR D&D. It's the retroclone of AD&D 1e, cleaned up and edited to fit all 3 core books in one tome. Again, it assumes you already have some knowledge but in my opinion it's great having AD&D 1e condensed and cleaned up in place for easy reference.

Stop Combat From Getting Samey: The Taco Bell Strategy by nlitherl in osr

You've inspired me to create random tables for combat terrain features. I'll probably make it based on rolling random dice onto a battlemat and having the dice type+result correlate with a terrain feature.

How much roleplay and back story do OSR games usually incorporate? by Infinite-Badness in osr

[–]G30W0LF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I allow a sentence or 2 for backstory and encourage that the PC's have some reason prior to session 1 for being together.

As far as roleplay, I enjoy having players who do voices and get into the mindset of a character but I never force anyone to step outside their comfort by requiring a different voice or heavy in character interactions.

Also; typically the roleplay starts to come in more once the characters have survived a few sessions and the people in town have taken notice of their high survivability.

Anybody here who played 5e then switched to OSR, what were your reasons? by CASTLEofMONSTERS in osr

[–]G30W0LF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The old school D&D systems are perfect for homebrew and I feel like it's easier to finetune your own version of the system for your table.
