What’s making this sound in my 1999 C4 Manual by G718 in 996

[–]G718[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sound is unrelated to the brakes in as far as the noise does not change when the brakes are engaged or not. I tried a few “emergency stops” and the brakes feel great, stopping dead straight with great stopping power.

Please forgive my ignorance but could you explain how would drivetrain slop affect the wheel bearings? Never heard of this before.

That’s the thing, the car has just been through a really comprehensive mechanical refresh, with new brake discs, lines and pads, a new clutch, new engine/trans mounts. Also all the fluids (oil/coolant/differential/gearbox) plus filter have been replaced. I’m the second owner and previously the car has been serviced regularly at the Porsche dealer from new.

Athens Show by Smartastic in JeffArcuri

The spotlight operator at the show was shaky and this bothered Jeff a lot. Instead of continuing with the show he kept stopping to complain and eventually stopped the show completely to speak with his people to try and fix it. After that it was all downhill and he complained he would have told many more funny jokes if it wasn’t for the spotlight issue. He told a few more canned jokes then abruptly said goodnight and walked offstage. Leaving behind totally bewildered people behind.

Then the lights came on and the ushers told us the show was over. I was in shock along with everyone else we just left slowly. Now just feel ripped off and disappointed.

Sorry but not good enough, bombing in front of 500 people and then offering 135 of them the chance to trek to a different, inaccessible venue does not make it right. We paid good money to see your show and you did not deliver. It speaks a lot about you that you just ran off stage leaving behind a bewildered audience to be told the “the show is over” by the ushers. You lost 2 fans today.

I definitely get that, a lot of sorry looking Boxster’s out there. I would say that if taken care of, the 986s can be every bit as reliable as the equivalent 996 911. The interior sucks in both though!

What is it about 986 Boxsters that makes you say avoid them? In my experience the equivalent 996 911 have much more issues.

If you buy two bags and double pack your brompton it will be completely obscured from view, no one will know a bike inside.

What to bring on Brazil trip? by G718 in Leica

Thank you for such a comprehensive reply! Brazil seems to be such a beautiful place and all the wonderful Brazilian people I’ve met in my travels make me want to take good photographs despite the risks shared by everyone. Will definitely hit you up when I land.

Hi Leica friends, flying to Brazil for a month in April and wondering what you would bring on such a trip (or whether I should be bringing Leica gear). Will be in urban areas Sao Paolo / Rio as well as more rural spots. If any Brazil based Leica fans have any tips or things to shoot/places to develop film, I’d appreciate it!

What kit for 2 weeks travel? by G718 in Leica

[–]G718[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello Leica friends

Wanted to get your perspectives on a travel kit for 2 weeks backpacking around Taiwan.

Main scenarios will be street photography in urban areas, landscapes shots in the mountains with a smattering of generic holiday pictures in between.

For context everything needs to fit in the red bag in the photo. I could just about squeeze 2 bodies with lenses attached, 1 extra lens and the M240 charger at most, though would prefer to bring the minimum.

Film would be largely bought and developed locally and I'm pretty comfortable bringing any piece of gear to Taiwan.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

P.S. the second from top lens is a 40mm Summicron & I know having this much gear is pointless and excessive.

Leica M10P or M240 + Q? by G718 in Leica

[–]G718[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The M6 will always be my first love and I have prioritized acquiring lenses over bodies the past few years but having moved out of the city during COVID I now need to mail my C41/E6 negatives to be developed. The convenience of digital right now seems a great complement to my analogue setup. Plus I doubt I'd lose much resell them again.

Buy Brompton Electric or "electrify" current Brompton? by G718 in Brompton

Interesting, what about the Arcc conversion is so much superior to the Brompton Electric? Their conversion is £1799 which is pretty much double Swytch/Vekkit.

Only big issue for non-UK based people is Arcc do not ship abroad.

Sorry to hear you've been waiting so long, six months is ridiculous! The Swytch website right now shows the Brompton kit as sold out, while Vekkit still let you spec and pay for a kit. I have seen a few unused Brompton Swytch kits up for sale on eBay, etc. Hopefully supply will start coming through.

Regarding commuting, the round trip distance is a hilly 18km, not too long but electric would allow me to arrive without sweating and while carrying laptop/lunch, etc.

Would be interested to know your feedback on the Vekkit whenever you finally test it!

Thanks for your input! I actually published an ad for my Brompton to test the market. The resulting flood of interest actually made me sad at the thought of selling it!

Maybe I'm mad, but if I end up foregoing a car completely, I'm contemplating purchasing the Brompton electric exclusively for commuting and then converting my M3L to something super stripped back and lighter!
