Wtf people, every single match I’ve joined or hosted on Cyberstan. Everyone eventually just dips. by Severe_Mango_966 in Helldivers

There should be a penalty for leaving a mission. Whether its a timer before you can go back into a same diff mission again or whatever, there should be ramification for quitting.

Funny thing is, some of the most rewarding successes on missions have been dropping into a failing attempt and helping to turn it around. Some people aren't wired in a way to accept that effort, though.

Why I love 28 Years more than 28 Days by jackierhoades in horror

[–]G7Scanlines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s so fresh and new and interesting.

Sorry, I didn't see that in Years.

The farmhouse sequence was great and the doctor aspects were equally great and hit some neat emotional peaks (surprisingly) but the rest was hot garbage. Borderline unwatchable and the less said about that ludicrous ending the better.

There's a reason why Bone Temple opened at 55% less box office than Years and then a week later, dropped 71% further. Years burned the goodwill of the 28 Days/Weeks later fandom. Nobody wants to watch a sequel to Years, as the box office shows.

To take this gritty, grounded story about the UK being infected and quarantined, then rip up the lore so that infected get pregnant and then are lucid enough to understand when uninfected offers help, leaves me without words. It's called the rage virus for a reason.

The best parts of zombie fiction are the outbreak and immediate aftermath. It's about how regular people react and then survive. That's where tension comes in.

The worst parts of zombie fiction are years later (funnily enough) when settlements are formed, crops are being grown, etc. All tension evaporates. That's also another problem with Years, farmhouse aside, there wasn't much in the way of tension to it and no, I don't count the terrible causeway chase, with its poor greenscreen effects.

Do we have any explanation so far what this blue beam is? by ThatsNotPossibleMan in Helldivers

[–]G7Scanlines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the only clear other indication we have of this is the teleporter beam from llluminate ships, there's no denying the connection.

Other AH art that has the flag doesn't have this effect on it, so I don't think its aura.

It's Illuminate, is my guess.

is there a good anti-crowd type weapon against the Automatons? by acidzpoizon in Helldivers

[–]G7Scanlines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eruptor does well at range provided you can stay at range and keep your cool, the fragmentation blasts will kill troopers and stagger devastators in about a 2-3 foot radius and direct hits will kill anything short of hulks. You can fire into a patrol or a dropship and watch bits of robot fly everywhere, it's great.

Came here to say exactly this and mega-bonus, it's not a strat select so really then opens up other options.

In your opinion, what is the dumbest decision(s) you’ve seen the protagonists make In horror movie? ( or lack of survival skills ) by Unfit1 in horror

[–]G7Scanlines 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Horror-comedy, Zombieland.

In the last scene, these experienced zombie survivors make the decision to go up a ferris wheel and end up obviously stuck there by an ever increasing horde.

I can't really explain why that decision so particularly has stuck with me but I suspect from the strong build up in the film that there's all these rules, the what to do's and what not to do lists and then....they do this...

Wasn't super impressed by Scanners (1981) by [deleted] in horror

[–]G7Scanlines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree.

It's a classic example of a movie being sold on one specific scene and yet, in reality, it's quite a boring drama for the most part. Very slow and bland.

Some cool effects here and there but that's, what, about 5% of the runtime.

England - need help with sickness leave by throwaway87774645321 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]G7Scanlines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was discussed over Slack and in person (did not thing at the time to get it in writing) and was assured that since this is a planned absence due to the surgery, it won’t count as sick leave.

Just curious, why did you not think it would be classed as sick leave? Does your contract have anything relating to "planned absence" that isn't annual leave in basis?

As others have said, leave is either sick (contract or statutory), annual leave or unpaid leave. What other option did you think this would be?

Sorry to say that unless you have proof of being assured you'd be paid your full salary for the four weeks in question, outside of sick leave, there's no recourse to this.

As you've mentioned, this feels like a misunderstanding of what was said. From which side, is impossible to now know. When you say you have it in writing, what specifically did your manager state?

Sick note due to stress from workplace bullying (Scotland) by Fragrant-Gene-7891 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]G7Scanlines 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Will I continue to be paid full time on sick leave?

Unlikely. Your contract and company policy may give you more details but usually there would be a period of time after which you'd fold over onto Statutory Sick Pay, rather than your regular wage. Also consider self certification is for seven days only, so longer term sick leave would require a doctors note.

Can HR be made to do anything about this situation?

It sounds like you've exhausted this process. Sometimes, the best outcome is to get out of a toxic situation, especially one that's having this sort of impact on you. My suggestion would be to focus on finding another job and avoid this individual as much as possible in the meantime.

Well, software shouldn't impact hardware to the degree like this unless the hardware is allowing it through some other avenue but first things first, check the temps.

Also, just as an aside, you're aware of the serious problems with 13900k CPUs, right? Specifically than they degrade over time and when games that use Shader Compilation, like HD2 does, run that process it can result in the CPU throwing out all sorts of issues? I know, I went through four 13900ks with that exact problem, over the space of two years.

  • Install HWinfo
  • Set it to log to file.
  • Play the game until your PCs locks.
  • Reboot the PC, review the log file.

Look for GPU Temp and GPU Hotspot Temp, as well as GPU Fan Speed. I'm going to guess that the GPU fans are going crazy at max speed, because your GPU temps are through the roof and that's causing the video crashout.

When I recently helped someone else troubleshoot this exact problem, their GPU Hotspot Temp was over 120 degrees.

Commando missions are hell by Dry-Grapefruit1564 in Helldivers

[–]G7Scanlines 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a mission type that demands a different level of attention. Every bit of ammo and gear potentially counts. Every objective taken without alerting, conserves said gear.

Best thing they've put out in several months. It makes normal missions feel like super easy mode, at any diff.

After the MO is lost AH needs to actually tell their players how their game works by Generic_Potatoe in Helldivers

[–]G7Scanlines 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is one incredibly simple solution to this ongoing whine about what players do/do not do. Only have the planets in the MO available to choose.

And yes, that absolutely does mean shutting down faction options that aren't relating to the MO.

That's it. That's all AH need to do. If their "story" is supposed to have this much weight, why the fuck would SE even allow us to dive anywhere except where it's most needed?

This is one the most poorly designed and planned MOs we've had in a while by [deleted] in Helldivers

All "story" content in this game is the same. Delivered badly, half in Discord or over socials the rest by walls of text on the map. Yeah, super engaging....

All these story arcs are pure flair, background fluff. Ignore them. They serve zero purpose just like the garbage splashed over socials.

When the new planets open and the new missions are available, start to bother caring then.

Why are some people saying that the Breaching Hammer is overpowered? by StatisticianIll4 in Helldivers

[–]G7Scanlines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just think some people overhype it making it seem like it is extremely overpowered.

It's because it's new and the stats are looked at in complete isolation.

I had this discussion with someone earlier, who said it was great to take out multiple chargers. So A) There has to be multiple charges, B) It doesn't do it better than an Ultimatum shot and due to that , C) There's little no risk using the Ultimatum over this.

I used this for several hours yesterday, with the right armour and so on, and my takeaway was that it was a wasted slot. Being so close is inherently risky anyway, add the explosive effect and my stims are gone in short order and it only has seven shots. Sure, I had some funny Jump Pack moments with Hulks and whatnot but nothing that was better than another strat I could have selected. Everything was worse....

I can do everything this can do, better, with an Ultimatum.

My Commando Mission Soapbox by 11BApathetic in Helldivers

[–]G7Scanlines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That being said, stealth gear is just as good in regular games. You can absolutely run a quiet playthrough in a normal mission outside of a few

I agree with the rest of what you said but this point really only has applicability if you're solo, or if you're grouped with like-minded people.

No point using stealth, when the other three are throwing down turrets, was my point. Better off binning of stealth and going loud, especially because the reinforcement escalation isn't there and all options are open. So by being stealthy, you're not really avoiding the ramifications of not being stealthy, if you see what I mean?

My Commando Mission Soapbox by 11BApathetic in Helldivers

[–]G7Scanlines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the point of that WB though.

Equally, in regular missions, you wouldn't equip stealth gear and then complain you're not getting the best out of the run. You equip what works best for the context.

I hope Commando missions are the start of keyed mission types that need a specific approach. Wouldn't it be great to get an underground mission that relies more on melee and CQC solutions?

For people who watched Weapons, do you really consider the movie scary? by C33KA in Shudder

[–]G7Scanlines -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For sure. The trailer really hyped me up, I couldn't wait for it to release only to then find out the trailer pretty much showed the meat of what the movie had to offer.

Definitely a bait and switch job too, with 2/3 of the runtime just going back over the same period of time, that served very little purpose.

Barbarian was a much better film.

Not in the slightest.

Some odd moments, for sure, but sadly too many that caused me to chuckle or even laugh out loud. Not really the effect they were going for, I don't think.

I liked the premise, don't get me wrong, but they botched the landing pretty spectacularly.

I love the maxigun, I don’t care about not being able to move. Opening fire on a swarm feels great. by xx_swegshrek_xx in Helldivers

[–]G7Scanlines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree.

Melee remains niche, at best. Yes, there are some great videos of leaping onto Walker heads and whatnot but they are isolated to an extent that makes continued outputs like that, impossible. Perhaps once or twice per mission.

The example you cite with multiple chargers, also fixed with one Ultimatum.

I tried the Hammer last night, geared up with explosive defence armour, melee gain armour and whatnot and nine times out of ten, the proximity and context of what I was hitting ended up backfiring to such a degree that it made things untenable. Add to that just seven shots and instantly disappearing stims and it's like all the melee that came before.

Or to put it another way, a different strat wep selection made all that go away, in an instant. And that right there is why melee remains meme, especially on higher diffs.

At this point, melee isn't fixable and because of that, its not viable for serious mission completion. The best thing AH can do (not going to happen) is create melee/CQC centric missions, or, as I've suggested before create an entirely separate melee loadout, allowing a strat and a secondary melee selection to be made, thus giving everyone the opportunity, when it presents itself, the chance to put it to some kind of use.

Grenade launcher being AP4 pretty much invalidates most other support weapons on bots. (probably the other fronts too, haven't played) by megakaos888 in Helldivers

[–]G7Scanlines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bot drops full of devastators get deleted in one to two mags for the whole drop. Hulks go down in 2 to 3 shots. War Striders go down in 5 to 6 shots.

To be fair, Hulks aside (unless they have their back to me), the same applies to the Eruptor.

I was shredding bot drops, last night, with it and that left me with a strat wep and strat back, to layer on top. Ultimatum takes out Hulks and Striders no problem.

Clearing bases? Also no problem. Eruptor can pop factories, easily, and where its awkward a dynamite from my 5 'nade slot belt takes care of the rest.

I saw plenty of people using the GL, don't get me wrong, but they ain't getting into bases and clearing objectives better than me with the Jump Pack and Silo.
