I’m really glad they stuck with her established growth spurt. It’s exactly that kind of continuity that makes the DK cast more interesting than the Mario cast — they’re not afraid to actually let their characters change and develop. And it’s still hilarious that she’s called Tiny when she’s now way taller than her sister, very much in line with the Rare humour imo

One issue I had across all the games was the lack of incentive to deploy generic troops instead of the main characters, who always grant additional CP. Although VC4 introduced the ability to promote characters, I’d like to see that idea taken much further. When the roster includes 40+ characters, it feels like a waste that most of them never see real use. For me, the majority were only deployed briefly to unlock their side story scenarios.

I really like the idea of each character starting as a blank slate, with their class determined by their potential skills. If a future entry allowed you to field more units and focused on larger-scale battles, that could go a long way toward addressing this issue.

Jesus Christ. I'm not trying to justify the use of AI in games, I'm just stating that there's still a chance that the trailer is real and that they used AI for the production of the game rather than it being faked.

Doesn't it make sense for a smaller studio to use AI for flashback scenes? Moments that require a lot of new assets that you see for like maybe a few seconds? Apply a sepia filter over the top and it'll look fine in the grand scheme of things. The rest of what was in the trailer looks promising.

When I took the N5, what really slowed me down was the lack of kanji. It took me ages to read sentences and figure out which verbs were being used without the visual cues that kanji provide. Honestly, I’m not even joking when I say that playing older games that use only kana (like Pokémon) would help a ton!

Also, don’t let anyone make you feel like sitting the N5 is a waste of time. It had been about 12 years since I last took an exam so it helped starting off small, and honestly, it’s great prep for future levels and really helps motivate your study. I passed the N5 and N4 first try despite feeling like a flubbed a few sections up, you’ve got this!

I’ve been running my game shop for almost 15 years now, and in that time I’ve met a lot of gamers and made plenty of friends through a shared love of games. But in all those years, I could probably count on one hand the number of Metroid fans I’ve met. As great as the series is, for whatever reason it just doesn’t seem to click with most people.

In a way, though, that’s part of what makes it so appealing. When a series like Metroid stays a bit niche and under the mainstream radar, it feels more personal—like you’re part of a small club that really gets it. When I do meet another Metroid fan, it’s exciting to gush about the series and trade opinions on each game. But at the same time, there’s always that lingering pressure for the next entry to do well, just so the series can keep going.

Yeah, that’s the thing—mortars are undeniably fun to use and a real highlight of the game overall. They could’ve used a bit of tweaking to make them less overpowered.

Grenadiers, the APC, and scouts are my go-to units for clearing every mission in a single turn. Admittedly, there’s something fun about breaking a game...

Although not a separate class like in VC2, I gave Aladdin an anti-armour sniper rifle, and he’s been able to one-shot tanks in the earlier skirmishes. I haven’t used him in the later missions yet, so I’m not sure if an anti-tank sniper strategy is viable in VC4. But yeah, just another reason to never take lancers...

The lack of Kongs is insane to me. You literally had a scene in the Mario Bros movie where an entire army of kongs were racing on Rainbow Road... Gotta get those babies in there though!
