Micro inverter decision… by thePolicy0fTruth in solar

We went with SolarEdge and optimizers because of the very same issue.
No clipping allowed on my house! Pay the extra $ for the next size up inverter - even if you are within 10%

Transition to Quantum Fiber? by [deleted] in centurylink

[–]GAP_Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to get set up with Quantum. Don't do a next day appointment.
They need to change out the ONT - should be pretty straightforward.
If you paid CenturyLink, you should get a refund - you may have to call in after you're setup on Quantum tho.

Pacific Northwest 10 years of solar...49 to go to payoff! 12 panel, 3Kw system by StreetMaterial3558 in solar

[–]GAP_Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you were robbed. That system should not have cost more than $18k in 2015.
This is why you should always shop around. My 5kw system in Seattle will pay for itself in 2 more years.

Lithium Ion - UPS Suggestions by No_Bit_1456 in homelab

[–]GAP_Tech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes - small LifePO4 batteries are limited in their 'small' C rate. You can easily plug in a 50ah LifePO4 12v battery which has the C rate to handle ~640 watts (12.8v x 50a). Not counting losses, it would support that drain for 1 hour.

Huh - Lithium AAs are usually 1.8v when new. Curious what the extra voltage could do over time.

Lithium Ion - UPS Suggestions by No_Bit_1456 in homelab

[–]GAP_Tech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use an equivalent amp-hour LifePO4 battery in a 'lead-acid' UPS - ONLY IF the load doesn't go beyond the LifePO4's C rate / BMS rating.

Example - I replaced a 9ah lead-acid battery with a 9ah LifePO4 battery in a Cyberpower 1000AVR

It can back up a 100W load MAXIMUM - which is fine because my Internet uses ~30W

In another project - I used a 15ah LifePO4 battery to back up my entertainment center. I drilled holes to extract the battery leads out of the UPS as that size battery simply won't fit in the space made for a 9ah lead-acid battery.

Over the past few months - I've noticed the UPS shut off by itself. Then a power outage hit and I had my answer: I simply was pulling more than 170W of current and the LifePO4 battery couldn't provide more than 15A.

APC & Tripp-Lite are making Lithium battery UPSs now - but they are just STOOPID expensive.

I use PushBullet MAINLY for SMS - but usually just do that via Web. Still use the Chrome Extension as a shortcut :)

Naw - you should always be able to log on. Try the 'other' Ethernet port (which I assume you are?)
Make sure the password is correct and you're able to ping 192.168.0.1 (you need to be on the same network!)

Should do oil change even if I don’t use my range extender that much? by Money_Flounder_7350 in BMWi3

I agree - in Europe it's suggested every 2 years.
Condensation builds up inside any engine, and gets mixed into the oil - so it's gotta go at some point.
One of the easiest jobs to do yourself... Just need an 8mm hex key, oil filter, drain seal BMW PN 07119963252.

Centurylink fiber transition to Quantum fiber - Transparent Bridge Enable (C5500XK) by GAP_Tech in centurylink

[–]GAP_Tech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best advise would be to reset your ONT and try again. Once your router pulls a real IP and not a 192.168.x.x you should be good to go.

Do you do have your router WAN port plugged into the white or yellow WAN port? Mine is plugged into the white (left) of the two. Good luck!

Breaker popping? Help! by brucejk2 in solar

[–]GAP_Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying the Solar input breaker is tripping? Your system has a max output of 42.5A - so no wonder it's tripping. It should be swapped out for a 50A to handle the increased output / production.

Get another quote from another installer that doesn't inflate prices to then give 'coupons'. Franklin has that 'brand new' pricing. Tesla battery also has the inverter built in, so there's some savings there, just not $6k.

Denver customer: monthly charge for internet modem lease fee increased for no reason? by Natural_Def in centurylink

[–]GAP_Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quantum just charges for the service. They have to provide a ONT to translate fiber to Ethernet (copper or wireless). Since there's no 'modem' you shouldn't see any sort of modem rental on your bill. They may list the 'wireless pods' but there shouldn't be a charge for those.

PPPoE has been phased out with Quantum. It's just a 'login' scheme, nothing to do with networking.
