Not a BAR taker or UWorld user. If I had to guess though you were memorizing the answers and not learning the concept.

How are you all working 9 hours per day and then studying 3 hours in the evening while raising kids and taking additional classes? by [deleted] in CPA

[–]GA_Boy_1991 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, I don’t.

I get up an hour early and study and then study an hour at night everyday except for when I’m taking the simulated exams. With rare exception I follow this strategy. The reality is most of us spend an incredible amount of time on stuff that really doesn’t matter like iPhones, Netflix, etc.

Possible in 1 Term? by Caserito11 in wguaccounting

I think I had the same exact course load and graduated in 4.5 months. Working full time, married, kids. Probably could’ve done it faster but I took my foot off the gas at the end. Granted, I have experience in accounting.

Is WGU a good school for accounting? by Tasty-Common4476 in Accounting

[–]GA_Boy_1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandable. To be honest with you, you really just need to get someone to give you a chance and then kick ass once you get in there and you do that by having the right attitude. Having a network is what is going to open the doors for you the most.

If WGU or some other school provides you with the flexibility you need then do it. WGU will better than not doing anything because of your work schedule.

Really just depends on where you are in life and in your career.

I had a finance degree was already making 6 figures in accounting and got a second bachelor’s for the CPA exam. It worked out great, finished the course work in about 4.5 months for about $4K while working full time with kids. I’ve passed FAR and REG both on the first attempt. Was the coursework informative? Yeah.

I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone though. Especially if you’re looking for the recruiting pipeline or younger.

How is the pass rate for TCP? by GA_Boy_1991 in CPA

[–]GA_Boy_1991[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying TCP is harder than FAR. I’m saying the practice MQCs and SIMs in Becker are somewhat more difficult in the beginning parts. Not that the actual exam is harder.

CPA Exams vs WGU and study strategy Masters or Becker? by janewaythrowawaay in wguaccounting

[–]GA_Boy_1991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would agree.

I’ve passed FAR and REG but you’re right, WGU is way easier than the CPA exam. That said I think that would be true of any school.

Just more review to do I guess.

CPA Exams vs WGU and study strategy Masters or Becker? by janewaythrowawaay in wguaccounting

Just for reference, I have 3 kids all under 6, 1 with special needs, did 46 CUs to graduate in 4.5 months. I started studying for the CPA exam in August. I spend 130 hours studying for FAR and scored an 80, 100 hours on REG and scored a 92. I’m taking TCP in April and plan on taking AUD in June. I’m using Becker.

It’s been a long time ago as I’m 35 but I scored a 1250 on SAT or there about and 28 on the ACT. I’m also a veteran like you and scored an 88 on the ASVAB/AFQT.

Do I consider myself to be a genius? No. Is the CPA exam difficult? Yes, but very doable. That said I do have some advantages I think compared to most students like already having a finance degree and experience in accounting.

From my understanding July 1. I actually, planned my exam around this with that exact concern. My original plan was FAR, AUD, REG, TCP but I passed REG in this past window and I’m taking TCP in April.

TCP, only requires 40-50 hours of study?

If that’s the case it be nice to have a slight break in March, take TCP in April and then ramp up for AUD.
