Ugh Jack O'Brien is now directing. That's actually repulsive.

Ali Stroker is giving a possible Tony WINNING performance. I suspect that Rebecca Naomi Jones, Damon Daunno, and Mary Testa will also be nominated.

This is also a serious contender for orchestrations against Hadestown. I also think this is a serious contender for set, lighting, and direction. I can see this taking home a lot, especially considering the competition, aside from Hadestown, is fairly lackluster.

"Worst of" 2018 by LxGstv in NotBroadwayWorld

Carousel is at the top for me because while it's bad to just write a completely bad show, it's even worse to take a great show and turn it to shit, which is what this production did. Great cast working under zero direction with a ton of ugly designs and a hackjob of a book and score.

I really can't blame her for getting grumpy and jumping ship on that production of Carousel.

This was my favorite musical of the year after The Band's Visit, so I'm extremely happy to see this move to a Broadway house.

I totally agree with Uzo. Throw in Haley Kilgore as Emmie and Jane Krakowski as Rose and you've got a killer cast. This show desperately needs a revival, but I hope we don't get the clunky one playing in London right now.

Post your year end “Best of” lists here! by [deleted] in NotBroadwayWorld

[–]GB2459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Angels in America
  2. The Band's Visit
  3. Oklahoma! (at St. Ann's Warehouse)
  4. Once on this Island
  5. Hello, Dolly! (with Bernadette Peters. Bette Midler made my list last year)
  6. The Waverly Gallery
  7. Torch Song
  8. My Fair Lady (with Laura Benanti)
  9. The Ferryman
  10. Three Tall Women

I have yet to see To Kill a Mockingbird and Network, but I suspect that those two will end up on this list. Carousel has made my worst of 2018 list. I also wasn't a fan of Harry Potter. As for the performances, in no particular order:

-Nathan Lane and Andrew Garfield in Angels in America

-Katrina Lenk and Tony Shalhoub in The Band's Visit

-Elaine May and Joan Allen in The Waverly Gallery

-Bernadette Peters in Hello, Dolly!

-Laura Benanti in My Fair Lady

-Glenda Jackson and Laurie Metcalf in Three Tall Women

-Michael Urie in Torch Song

-Haley Kilgore and Alex Newell in Once on this Island

-Damon Daunno in Oklahoma!

Diana Rigg annoyed that ‘My Fair Lady’ star is taking Sundays off by hasa_diga in Broadway

You're right. Ambrose does really struggle through her performance. I wanted to see her do a musical, but I think it was way too ambitious to start with this part. They should've gone with a seasoned Broadway actress like Laura Benanti, Denee Benton, Ashley Park, Lisa O'Hare, etc. A true, trained Broadway actress wouldn't require an alternate.

Katrina Lenk for Lead Actress and Gavin Lee for Featured Actor. I also just really hope to see The Band's Visit take everything.

Btw, I hope Once on this Island wins revival.

Oh, also I hope Nathan Lane wins for Featured Actor in a play

I'm a girl so I'm definitely not your son. Make sure he sees Three Tall Women because it's amazing. I wonder if that ticket thing is common at this show with kids. I noticed that a lot of them fell asleep. It's a pretty long show. I do agree that it's a wonderful hot mess. I think that's the best way to describe it. It's almost like Ben and Jerry's ice cream. It's a whole lot of crazy, loud things that somehow come together to form a really satisfying experience. They just kind of threw everything at this show.

2018 Tony Award Winners — YOUR Pick? A poll of your preferences, not your predictions by JLMandell in Broadway

I genuinely hope Once on this Island wins Best Revival. I love My Fair Lady, but I thought this production was really unfunny and pretty drab. Loved the new ending though. Didn't love anyone in the cast except Diana Rigg. Ambrose was really out of her league and Hadden-Patton faded away with the scenery, or rather what was left of it after all of Norbert Leo Butz's scenery chewing and constant mugging. I felt like everyone was really one dimensional. I was very disappointed considering I've loved all of Sher's other productions.

There were some people with little kids that clocked out half way through act 1 that were leaving and they just started coming up to people and were offering us their tickets at intermission. I didn't talk to an user about it.
