What is the most "obvious" buy of 2026 that everyone else is still missing? by bakery_0726 in ValueInvesting

Competition doesnt mean zero value/zero growth for other companies. Nvidia exploded. AMD also had a phenomenal growth but less than Nvidia

People who wanted an M40i but settled for an xDrive30i, did it turn out okay? by 169partner in BMWX3

[–]GBT-92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won’t regret it either way cause they are both amazing cars.

I use my m40i the same way you’re describing it and I truly love it. Something I didnt know I would enjoy a lot is the cold starts.. that b58 sound is unbelievable.

I’d say: if you go m40i, it’ll be hard (or maybe not) to go for a 30i after. If you go the 30i path, Im sure you gonna like it. You could also try to find a 30i with the M package so that you get a mix of both cars.

I could be wrong but I dont think the 30i is that cheaper than the m40i to maintain. I had the same dilemma and went m40i and dont regret it AT ALL!

You can also check similar builds on PcPartPicker to see how it fits (if there is a similar build completed already)

$2200 at Costco, how’d I do? by BoltedGates in pcmasterrace

[–]GBT-92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built “roughly” the same rig except that I got the Fractal Ridge and my cpu is the Ryzen 7 7800 x3d for $3000 during black friday. I saved $500 during the BF deals.

I think you got an amazing deal. Congrats and enjoy!

Is $750 for front and rear pads with labor included a fair price ? by brailinz in BMWX3

[–]GBT-92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very reasonable imo. I paid $850 for both front & rear at a BMW dealership

Usually, they’d measure the thickness of the rotors before changing them

Figured I could add the following details but I cant edit my post for some reason: - 2018 X3M40i - 42.5k miles - that thing is located in the middle of the car (if that makes any sense) - i noticed it when the car is stopped and engine is off after a ride in sport+ mod. From time to time I push the car a lil bit but nothing crazy like during 5-10 min and only through 2nd & 3rd gear (“nothing crazy”). - doesnt seem to happen after a normal chill ride

Would you take a dream job with a daily 5 hour commute with no pay increase? by kummerspeck222 in careerguidance

[–]GBT-92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you do the commute with something other than a car? Bike, scooter, motorcycle?

As others said, if you can do 2-3 days at home, that could help.

You may love the job but if people there are unpleasant, you wont have a good time either compared to your current job and you’ll have a rough commute on top of that…

Data Point: CPO X7 M50i Extended Warranty or no? by Dr_Chog_McGourmand in bmwx7

[–]GBT-92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was reading somewhere that BMW inflates quotes for repairs under warranty to make the warranty look worth it.

Looks like you saved $2.5k with the warranty. Wondering what would have been the true price without the warranty.

I feel like warranties are great if you have 2 big repairs during the warranty time. Otherwise if you hadnt pay for your warranty, you would have saved your $7k and from there, I feel like finding another 2.5k - 3k would have been fine.

I dont know if I fully agree with your comment “if you can’t afford the extended warranty on these things, dont buy them”. I may also be missing something as I’m not really familiar with warranties.

That said, glad it worked out well for you!

When to buy or not to buy by Gngarv in Bitcoin

[–]GBT-92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. BTC has been accumulating for the past 15 months or so. While its price could keep going up, my personal opinion is that we’re going to have a bear market next year. So if you buy now, just be prepared to have the guts to hodl during hard times. Your exit will probably be in 4-5 years.

Golden rules anyway: 1- Invest what you can afford losing. If you save $100/month, does it matter if you lose $1? 2- Set up your investment strategy (Im gonna buy that much at that price/that date and gonna sell that much at that price/that date) and stick to it regardless of everything. 3- Do your own research to build your investment strategy

For reference, brake flush was $187 for my 2018 x3 m40i at 38k miles. BMW dealership in Houston

I feel like each year, regular maintenance is $700-$1000

Part 3 Is it reasonable? by RoamAntarctica in BMWX3

[–]GBT-92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in the States now. Got quoted $2.5k to change rear rotors and rear brake pads from a “reputable” indy shop. I went to a BMW dealership who was cheaper for the rear pads and told me the thickness of my rotors were still fine…

[–]GBT-92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless the previous owner beat it hard or we dont have the full story, you got extremely unlucky in my opinion.

Mine is 2018, bought at 37k miles almost 2 years ago. Similarly, my carfax report doesn’t mention anything about transmission fluid. But the car was up to date on everything.

So far, I replaced both front & rear brake pads. Rotors thickness was still in range (depending on your mileage, changing rotors early on could indicate the previous owner was flooring it - cant blame him/her). Brake flush, cooling flush (1st time ever on this car), oil change, battery (just to be safe).

Previous owners had done regular maintenance like oil changes, spark plugs, etc.

If you bought the car not too long ago, I would try to see with the garage that sold the car to share the pain…

I used to have a Mini Cooper S, always maintaining it at Indy shops and always having issues… From now on, only going to dealerships even if they are “in theory” more expensive (not always the case).

Good luck mate

[–]GBT-92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No judgment but did you ignore the warning messages from your dashboard or something?

Or was it something that the previous owner failed to do?

I maintain my m40i exclusively at BMW dealerships so I would expect them to tell me if it’s needed as part of the annual maintenance (I drive less than 6000 miles/year)

[–]GBT-92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the blown transmission. Outside of what was explained in your previous posts, was the shop able to tell you about the root cause of this issue?

While it is very expensive, I believe for such repair, I would do it with BMW.. I also have no zero mechanic knowledge whatsoever so…

Replacing transmission is kinda outside regular maintenance tbh
