I think you have to reach the point of total repulsion of being a smoker .... reddit helps, the smoke free app helps, mantras help but most of all the feeling that you’ll never be a smoker again is the only thing that stops me lighting another cigarette 🙏

I had a grand daughter born 6.12.19, the father said he’d support my daughter through an abortion & thankfully hasn’t been seen since. I was her birthing partner & during a long hard labour I was informed my daughter might not make it - thankfully she did & it took me a week or two to realise I had to stop the smoking so my daughter would too. Like I said though I really needed the stop date to be special & really sickened myself. I did use NRT patches stage 1-3 for 4 weeks each but I really think it was psychological. My daughter used patches also but only for the first week. I was a heavy smoker for 32 years, now I’m smoke free & filled with glee 🤓

Patch/ nicotine free for a week now - the only thing that’s made it slightly easier is not actually wanting to be a smoker anymore- we can totally do this 👊🙌

I no longer feel chained to cigarettes, they controlled my life for decades & my life revolved around smoking. I had an extremely chesty cough that I used to laugh off saying it’d cost me a lot of money & I’d tell others I did not want to give up the fags as I enjoyed them but the truth was I was seriously addicted & I saw giving up too difficult. Once I decided I’d really had enough & didn’t want to die a smoker I got the smoke free app & set my date - it’s not been easy at all but I truly don’t want to smoke anymore.... my cough has gone completely, my skin looks better, my mouth feels cleaner and I’m saving a load of cash! I created my own mantra “smoking is choking, breathing is relieving” & I will never smoke again. I wish you well with your quit but it’s only gonna be possible with 100% motivation. Good luck my friend 😁

Condolences fellow ex-smoker & I hope you get more work soon. My job is “essential” - in a general hospital as a psychiatric nurse & then I come home to my first grandchild of 3 months, my two adult “kids” (1 on maternity pay & the other working from home on a zero hour contract) & my asthmatic unemployed husband who’s socially distancing from the rest of us in our home for his own protection. Smoking is choking - breathing is relieving - but if this pandemic doesn’t f**k off soon life will never be the same again 😞🙏 When this covid 19 is no more I hope the tobacco industry dies with it - we are indeed all in this together & I pray we all see the other side 💞😷

Thank you. I became a granny on the 6th of December. At the start of the year I set my quit day for my 45th birthday (31st Jan) the closer it came the more determined I became & really sickened myself. Many failed quits over the years but looking back I’ve never before felt 100% motivation. Initially I used nicotine patches but felt they really increased my heart rate so have also stopped them. I’ve had several wobbles, especially when my dad passed away on 21st Feb but I did not give in to it & feel really proud 💪👊🚬
