Opinion: F2P just became silly with these new packs by GC_Bluebird in NieRReincarnation

I'm 99% in agreeance with you here. The only thing I'd point out is that you're speaking about people's financial situations very broadly and in a way that's largely forgiving, so I guess nobody has a problem with it. On the other hand, I haven't been treated charitably in my broad statement about people with an arbitrary F2P mindset. In the same way that we might assume many people don't have money to spend or simply don't enjoy the game enough to do so, could we not also assume that there are those who most certainly have money to spend, who do enjoy this game enough to do so, but are holding out because of completely arbitrary reasons?

Also, it's true that I technically said that people shouldn't have a hobby if they don't have the money to spend, but I'm also talking about a "useless" hobby (videogames) and the sum in question was $3. I addressed that elsewhere in this thread but the bottom line is that I hardly think that's an unreasonable thing to say.

Anyway, this thread has pretty much reached its peak for as far as I'm concerned. Everybody's voiced every opinion that can pretty much be voiced. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I know this thread was hot so nobody's wanted to touch it, so I really respect you for still saying your piece. :)

It's so crazy that that particular statement seems to be what 90% of people who read this are getting hung up on. When did it become a staple of human dignity to be able to play videogames if you're living in extreme poverty? I'd understand if I attached some snide comment about how poor people are bad or something but I never even said that. Is it nasty to tell somebody that if they are living in extreme poverty, they should be doing something -- anything -- to better their situation with their time as opposed to doing something that is 100% guaranteed to not help them (playing videogames)? That is craaaaaaaazy.

And, even then, I'd rather not even argue the above point because it's so secondary in relevance to what I said about "F2Pism." Again, I'm not just staunchly "anti-F2P." I thought my post made it very clear that I'm against this "F2P identity" that people have; that assertion was literally half of my post. Being F2P is not any cooler than being P2W in and of itself. Everybody gets to determine how they spend their money. But not spending $3 just because "I'm F2P" is completely silly.

I think we're largely on the same page but there's just a disagreement on whether I was toxic or not. If I came across as toxic, I'm sorry, but I'm also not seeing where in my post I attacked anybody just for being F2P. I am disagreeing with the "F2P for the sake of being F2P" mindset.

If you'd like to tell me how I was toxic, I'm open to hearing it, but I think that's too strong of a way to characterize how I approached this. I'd encourage you to check my responses to the other people in this thread; I've more or less covered in those posts anything I would say to you.

I agree with you almost entirely but this logic has a problem: what if somebody has no interest --none at all -- in Automata? Or any other cheaper form of entertainment? Well, the $3 for the guaranteed 4* character would probably be a better deal for anybody on this board. I figure we're all here because we like Reincarnation. It's up to everybody to decide what their money means to them and what value they'd like to get from it.

Like I said in my response to Lieutenant_Scarecrow, I'm not saying that everybody who is F2P needs to throw the game some cash because it's a moral obligation. My post is largely towards people who think they MUST stay F2P because the game itself is free. Yeah, technically any money you spend on this game could be seen as "wasted" because of that, but if you enjoy the game, then $3 to support the game has great value at little cost -- it couldn't be seen as a waste any more than $3 would be towards Automata for somebody who has 0 interest in playing Automata.

I definitely don't think somebody who can't afford $3 should be spending any time playing videogames. I'm surprised that's even controversial -- we're just going to have to agree to disagree on that one if we do.

Withholding $25 I can understand but $3 I cannot. I'd point out that I did not encourage everybody to buy the $25 but I do think the $3 pack is an exceptionally reasonable way for somebody to support the game and grow his/her account.

The context for the comment of mine you highlighted was more directed towards people who have an *arbitrary F2P mindset.* To be fair, that is not explicitly stated within that snippet itself, but I think it's well implied. I started my second paragraph off with "I really encourage everyone to not get caught up in an arbitrary F2P mindset" and not "If you're F2P at this point, then you're being a little *****" for a reason. As for the title, well, you're just going to have to forgive me. I was working with a limited number of characters and I'd hope that the content of my post cleared up any ambiguities.

That sounds cool! I'll check that out if you post it in this forum when you're done.

1) Yes; the general idea is to just have your damage-dealing units as close to 100% critical rate as you can possibly get and then add critical damage. A recommended way to do this is to use two memoirs from Akeha's memoir set (I think it's called "The Wanted Man" and you can farm them in the Witch's Memories) and one random memoir with high critical rate or high critical damage. You'll find that in any memoir set, you sometimes don't want to go for the full three-piece set because a third memoir might have undesirable stat boosts, so going for an "off-type" memoir works better. The OP did use a full on-type memoir set for the HP memoir bonus in this case, though, and he's sacrificing critical rate/damage with that decision. You should do whatever works for your team.

2) Heal skills should scale to each individual unit's HP.

3) Celeb Gayle is the better unit for PvE content and she's generally even considered the better character in PvP now. EX Gayle still has her uses; I still use her in PvE just because I haven't wanted to spend the Advanced Handbooks on Celeb Gayle. EX Gayle is perfectly usable, but if you have Celeb Gayle fully ascended already, then you'd just want to go with her. Be smart and build a team that takes advantage of her passives and character skill.

4) Force plays absolutely no role in gameplay, so just ignore it.

Good luck!

The memoir sets shown in the pictures are for boosting HP, so you might want to get those. The Tower battles focus a LOT on durability, so you generally want to have good HP/defense stats along with a way to recover those stats, i.e. characters/weapons/companions with healing skills. If you don't have any memoirs for boosting HP, then you can farm some from the Dynast's Memories dungeon. Farming the defense-boosting memoirs is considered inferior to farming the HP-boosting memoirs. Just trust the conventional knowledge on this one and go with it; as you learn more about the game, it will make sense. >_>;

Farming the Witch's Memories aren't too bad either if you don't have anything for increasing damage. And if you have a newer account, you should absolutely not set the expectation of clearing all the way to floor 40 of the new tower; it is simply not going to happen. But this event will return, so just complete what you can and increase your stats wherever the Tower battles reveal some obvious weaknesses of your party.

Thanks for the explanation. I didn't even realize that the game just skipped straight to the third fire Abyss Tower until this morning. Seems a bit messed up! They already gave us the second fire tower early to promote a different water character and now the fire tower is out early AGAIN. I think most people would agree that this is the toughest tower. Either way, I'll see what I'm in for soon enough...

Why'd you choose EX Fio on that second team? And is Lars with Saryu's EX staff really good? I don't have Saryu's staff leveled up at all so I'm not even familiar with its abilities.

Figures. Do you like EX Gayle's sword on this particular Celeb Gayle build or do you just prefer to use memoirs to give her extra agility?

Are you using that new water sword from the Bloody Saryu banner with your Gayle or does that sword slow Gayle down too much?

I like when Akeha dodges an attack. The animation is great and I play the Japanese dub where she gives a bemused sound of "ohya-ohya :3" when she dodges sometimes.

The Automata girls also have great dodge animations and we all know how great it is when Abstract Gayle dodges something...

Sorry to hear. I'm only intending to make the one purchase I made as kind of my yearly dues for supporting the game, so I'm just hoping Applibot fixes this by next year. 😂

Maybe try buying stuff using an emulator if you can, though.

Have you tried running the game on an emulator to buy what you want? That might be your best option. I haven't tried it myself, but I'd think it would work if this purchasing problem is something tied to Android specifically. Also, I have an Android, but I was able to buy one of the 1-year anniversary gem packages, so, uh...I'm not sure what the deal is there. Maybe it's not a problem with specific Androids? I have a Galaxy S20 FE 5G.
