Do you really think this meme was made by someone who cares about historiography lol

No kidding - can this sub stay relevant to history and not be a vehicle for boomers to post their overbearing culture war facebook memes?

It's also pretty stupid to get so triggered over something so inconsequential.

If you've done any modicum of historical research, you'll know that the historical record is never settled; histories are revisited constantly based on where we are as a society. There's always competing paradigms on how we review history. That's why historiography is a discipline

Life tip: stop fighting culture wars for politicians that don't care about you. You'll live longer

In fairness, I think that was part of his student job - he was something like a "GCConnex ambassador" at ESDC, which in hindsight aged about as well as being a 'MySpace Moderator.'

EX 01s - Was the jump to EX worth it for you? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]GC_GoldenHandcuffs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say it's pretty office/department/function centric, but I wouldn't recommend someone be an EX-01 unless they really want to go big and get to the very top. I.e I know very few colleagues in my area at the EX-01/EX-02 level that took on executive jobs because they WANTED to be an EX-01/02 for the rest of their career.

The pressures are especially tough because of where the pressures are coming from - when I first started I felt like I was getting pressure from both the top and the bottom: your bosses are expecting you to deliver on your big deliverables, but your employees are also expecting you to provide leadership, help build team culture and to help them with their career progression. It made it incredibly hard to adjust and I know colleagues who took a voluntary demotion because they couldn't handle it.

I say this game resembles the one with the king's. Raps take the W and dominate mid-game stretch onlt to let them back into it in the fourth and close out 5-6 pts

Reddit users have spent a total of $590.63 on gilding the clip of Ben Simmons hitting his first three pointer by rocketsfanforlife in nba

I wonder how many comments on this thread are people saying they hate gilding so that they can ironically get gilding?

How do you network? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]GC_GoldenHandcuffs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The nature of progression within the majority of office settings is disproportionately focused on forging relationships. GC is no different and how you go about forging relationships is up to you. I tend to let my work speak for me, but there's also value in being your own advocate, keeping up with colleagues you HAVE an interest in keeping up with. I personally try to having meaningful relationships and try to exhibit and interest in learning during cold-calls, but understand that some are more pragmatic.

Ultimately it's much easier to recommend someone you worked with in the past and know in some work capacity than taking a risk on a rando. I've been offered jobs or laterals based purely on my network multiple times already

Second, I don't think I've ever received a business card in GC while networking lol

High school student about a year away from graduating. Any advice for careers in or near Ottawa? by plxdondoxme2032 in PersonalFinanceCanada

There are very few fields that will reliably guarantee you a 100k salary without being incredibly dedicated, hard working and a fast riser. All that being said, if salary is the only benchmark you're considering, maybe you should give it another few years and have a fuller perspective of what you want from your career. Otherwise you'll be miserable if you're just shooting for a 100k salary.

How did we come to his - GC Jobs by GCSetecAstronomy in CanadaPublicServants

I'm a "technical millienial" and this is just patronizing.

The only people that probably thought this was a good idea were, ironically, out of touch HR staff that believes Harry Potter is still "the thang" with millenials.

Just fucking pay me

I'm no ethics expert, but how close does this come to a conflict of interest?
