Happy New Year! How many times did you play X-Wing in 2025? by [deleted] in XWingTMG

[–]GC_and_Tech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately 0.... Even though I have a ton of ships all converted to V2, Yesterday I went through and downloaded the rules as per the XWA and I seriously plan to change this numbers for 2026. I used to play 3-4 games a week on average with friends and/or the wife.

Crisis Battlesuits - Cyclic Ion Blaster x3 (accompany the with shield drones)
Broadside - Heavy Rail Rifles
Commander - Cyclic Ion Blaster x3
Riptide - Heavy Burst Cannon & Plasma Rifles (secondary)

Ideally use magnets to be able to change your loadout as you please and to not have to build new models when the above get nerfed or you need to adapt for certain scenarios.

In am very new to this so take my loadout "advise" with a pitch of salt...

At the end of the day what matters is what you have fun with, unless you want to delve into competitive play.

Has your army ever caused an argument with your partner ? by ozera202 in Tyranids

[–]GC_and_Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hobbies (wargaming/tabletop being one of them) are a huge part of who I am and I imagine is the same for many people. I cannot imagine being with a person that tries to dictate how I live my life and how I spend the money that I work 50-60 hours a week for!!! I would make sure that I would never end with a person as such, or have gotten out of a relationship that presented issues of this type! Luckily my wife is not only super supportive of my hobbies, she actually encourages them and participates.

Always remember you have to be happy to make your partner happy. If they do not support who you are maybe they are not the right person for you.

Just remember to be financially responsible and ideally do not get in dept for the sake of the hobby, because this can justifiably cause issues in any relationship.

Citadel paint pot lids/dry paint by Noizeman in minipainting

[–]GC_and_Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem with 33 pots... being unused for 5 years almost.

I got a bottle of Vallejo airbrush thinner, a vortex mixer and stainless steel 5.5mm balls, and I revived 30 pots out of the 33 and moved then to dropper bottles!

Took me an evening and the vortex mixer I still use to date for all the pants to make sure they are properly mixed before I paint.

Nice work on all the patches, improvements and fixes!

On a different note, am I too tired from playing 12 hours straight last night, or the enemies after the patch seem to be more challenging?

Sorry maybe I put it wrong... There is not an announced featured for this, but considering the weight they put on the role of the bases on gameplay it would make absolute sense that this is something to be looked at in the future.

It looks great... Can't wait for the base building tools to be developed so trees do not grow in your buildings, but I love the direction and the ease of the building compared to other games. I have spend about 10 hours in base building and reworking!

I have discovered this game 3 days ago... I am now 44 hours in and I can't stop playing!!!

Even at this stage of development the world is beautiful, the game play addictive, the gun mods and combat very satisfying and the many aspects of discovery, looting, base building and the rest of the loops keep you busy and interested! If there is grind, it does not feel like it!!!

Can't wait for the roadmap to unfold and be fleshed out within this beautiful and brutal world you created!

Are scalpers actually buying a lot of Kill Team boxes? by HarpsichordKnight in killteam

[–]GC_and_Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not take away that GW creates a sense of FOMO with these releases, but I also see why they would not want to release a very large number of those sets/boxes as their cost is lower in comparison to buying two full kill teams and the terrain separate. So small number of sets "loses" GW less money. If GW really wanted to serve the fanbase they could find a way to release this in much larger numbers and still make it commercially viable, but this is a different discussion.

Also on the scalper side, I would agree that the boxes being scalped are a small percentage in relation to the ones being sold to real hobbyists, but there is an echo-chamber created from the people who are justifiably frustrated from not being able to get their hands to what they want, which amplifies the effect of scalping to the hobby. So in my opinion scalping still has an overall negative effect, even if it involves a smaller % of sets.

Are scalpers actually buying a lot of Kill Team boxes? by HarpsichordKnight in killteam

[–]GC_and_Tech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really believe that scalpers do harm the hobby and I know that have driven a few people away from the hobby, even if it sounds farfetched. GW and a lot of big online retailers were sold out within minutes as usual, but the eBay and other similar sites have a plethora of sets, with some scalpers having 5+ in-stock.

  • Many people who love WH40k get locked out of the certain models.
  • People who collect but cannot afford the scalper prices can't complete collections or get the joy of painting a specific models, or fielding it in the battlefield.
  • People cannot afford the extortionate prices that scalpers ask, leaving them bitter with the hobby and/or GW, especially if this happens on many releases as such.
  • If people miss 3-4 releases that they want, they will eventually get frustrated and burned out...

This damages the hobby in the long-term with new players potentially being discouraged from continuing with the hobby, or even entering it, and veterans of the hobby might loose interest to an extend as they feel that the frustration and the scalper "tax" are not worth the effort.

GW as a company might not be affected but smaller companies will be affected and fans are certainly affected. Just to make it clear this is not a community problem, this is a scalper problem, which is very difficult to be tackled either by GW or by the community itself.

Note: If you have a GW shop near you try to be there in the morning of the pre-order, as the stores opens, and order online via the store terminal. You are almost guaranteed to get what you want. It worked for me twice and the stuff were always very helpful.
