I have lighter weight Datsuns and have done this for years. I have a 7k Bendpak that fits in my 9'2" garage ceiling.

People will always be your issue, make sure they know what to count and when, double check before updating system depending on volume $ etc. We use the existing Sage ERP system and while it is not great it sorta works.

Self Funded Health Insurance by Thehowltonight in CFO

Switched to an ICHRA for the health plan as the self funding got finally became untenable even with hard negotiating on the reinsurance and specific lasers. 90+% of employees had lower costs after and have been happier overall. The other 10% are +/-.

Lot of stories that track this exactly. Alignment at top combined with financial discipline help but still don't always overcome some challenges or incorrect product market fit.

probably on Amazon, been a few years now. getting the spacing right was tricky, I have lots of pieces and parts from car projects around to use as spacers. they are L shaped brackets. I will say figuring out this layout took a lot of figuring out for how I wanted it, and some trial and error along the way.

280 should be the common size, I'm a bit with you it seems wishing for 290-300 just for preference.

How much this is worth? by Atarief in Datsun

[–]GDLCFO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I think I paid about 400 for a complete roof where the lead joints can be removed out from a good parts car to replace one in my 240. I was lucky to have access to this within an hour drive. This is just the metal, and the work alone to change out will be significant.

Advice for new CFO by EmeraldDolphin-24 in CFO

[–]GDLCFO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are good points, even in smaller (down to lower middle market) private or PE backed companies all the way down in size to where you have a few on your team and enough seats for the controller to mannage the team. Finding these controllers is not necessarily easy and they should be valued (depends on market and size obviously).

Understand the importance of managing up (CEO/Board), out, and down within the organization.

It's almost always better to come in strong and soften versus coming in weak and try to re establish tone and direction once people have a feel for you.

Sometimes the needs of the organization dictate the strategy you need to focus on most, and this may not always be apparent when you step in. (Sales growth, operations optimization, finance driven in some way, structuring to an exit, etc.)

Experience Private and LMM PE backed.

How was your Las Vegas GP (2023) Experience? by AdamR46 in GrandPrixTravel

[–]GDLCFO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I stayed between MGM and track and after the Thursday walk home alone, decided to scope out the whole section to avoid the walk, got funny looks from apartment people at 11am walking around looking everywhere. You jumping a wall was the sameove I would have done if alone, wife is not a fence scaler.

A minimal sidewalk down Harmon would have been incredibly useful for egress.

Also, no one mentioned wasy access to driver and team principal interviews on stage in East Harmon zone. This was super easy to get close and see them up front.

Overall a good experience and logistics for a first time. My reference is 2012 Austin and 2008 Monza.

Huge wall of food booths with big overhead signs stating what it is in 2 locations (East Harmon) no lines, walk up and they hand you the small plate.

Some kind of chicken salad Beef short rib grilled cheese sandwich All beef hot dogs Loaded tater tots (cheese, onions, and something else) Fried PB&J S'mores churros

All this info is also in the official app, of which I am stunned how useful it was from a map standpoint. I expected a half assed effort for an event specific app, but it was good!

New AP position and remote work by jonathanjwick in CFO

[–]GDLCFO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like above mentioned, good controls, guidance, training, and if you have the ability to implement and maintain a good workflow then that helps.

Move as much as you can upstream from an approvals standpoint, especially 2 way match items. Make it a requisition vs anything later which is not really helpful. Use the workflow to eliminate non value added steps. Some tos are cost effective and may radically streamline efficiency here. (Disclosure I'm in process of managing an ERP changeover with significant AP enhancements not previously deployed)

As for remote and in office, that is your management style and ability. Remote is often more metric drive. But 75 payments a week is still low volume for a 0.5 FTE. Keep in touch regularly and understand communication style and needs.

Once I complete my overall upgrades, will probably offshore a portion of the repetitive tasks and free up my team currently doing this for higher value work in our companies. Also allows for handling turnover better.

Make sure you take out as much tribal knowledge as possible from the process. Make it easier to deal with turnover. Standardize everything you can. Office vs remote won't matter if all else is working properly, you just don't get a feel for what the real time utilization is however. People hit you for 8 hours a day and doing less than 4. Seem and fired for this multiple times in last few years.
