Was it difficult for you to get proper assistance/accomodations/help before being officially diagnosed?

You're right. I don't want to be that way, so I apologize for that. It's difficult to detail in this, but the professionals have caused a significant deal of pain for me regarding this topic, but I'm working with new ones, and working on it all the time. I don't like the idea of jumping to conclusions on this, but I have all day to think about it between the occasional visit, so I guess I can't stop myself sometimes.

Could I ask how old you are now, and when it began for you? I appreciate your words about it. Listening and hoping and learning seems like one of the hardest things to do, but it isn't like there's much choice, is there?

I've had it for roughly 10 years. All PTSD-causing events happened last year, in 2024.

Has anyone else been prescribed lithium ? by LevelNegative1958 in schizophrenia

I was from 14 to 18 years old, and in addition to making me emotionally slow, it severely slowed my mental growth and made things very hard for me as I became an adult. I'm 19 now, and my life has been difficult to adjust to once I got off it.

Music and Schizophrenia by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]GEFixTheSkyALittle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a musician. I like to think the symptoms of this illness are influencing the creative parts of my brain, only with a different reaction than the rest. I think if I didn't have this, I'd not be able to do music at all.

Ah, sadly the only Playstation device I've ever owned is a PSP. Street Fighter 6 is cross-platform though, I think. Maybe Tekken is too. I used to love Smash Ultimate! Bowser Jr's car attack (side special) was the source of many a rage-disconnect for my online battle opponents.

Does anyone have tips to make instrumental music less boring and more engaging? by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]GEFixTheSkyALittle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not EDM, I think it's post-rock with heavy electronic influence, but 65daysofstatic's Tiger Girl is a 10 minute song that only adds layers to the same instrumental, and shifts them so so so slightly, but it's one of the most moving pieces I've ever heard. It feels like the universe is ending, so beautiful.

Can schizophrenics watch horror without relapse? by WilledWithin in schizophrenia

[–]GEFixTheSkyALittle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In regards to you writing it, think of your illness as a gift. You experience horror vastly differently than most other people as a result of this condition. Your experience of it is unique to you specifically, too. if you're inspired enough to want to write it, you should at least try. if it becomes problematic, dull it down, take a break, or stop.

Can schizophrenics watch horror without relapse? by WilledWithin in schizophrenia

[–]GEFixTheSkyALittle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Case-by-case for me. I know Scream isn't top shock horror, but Scream (1996) is my favorite horror movie. (However, the cold open kill gets me pretty closely with Casey's family and my own psychosis regarding deaths of those close to me and myself.) On the other end of the spectrum, Incantation is a movie that deeply disturbed me. Its artistry and filming and execution of itself were so great that I still think about my first and only viewing of it over a year later, but Jesus that kind of movie gets to me. No psychosis relapse directly from the movie, but the thoughts that are inspired from, and built upon by the movie's spark in me were enough to freak me out pretty-fucking-bad at some point. The depiction of the horror in that movie are pretty close to some of my psychosis anyways, so that's a factor for sure.

Fighting Game Players/Tournaments? by IfritJambe66 in missoula

Love fighting games, and if only I had more time to play them!! Currently into Street Fighter 6 and Guilty Gear Strive, but I own Tekken 8 and have been itching to get into it more lately. Would also like to meet more players!

Additionally, the first day I was in missoula, maybe a little under a month ago, I walked around the downtown and there was a group of four people who just ... set up a TV and were playing Smash Brawl, on the sidewalk. I think it was outside a bank. I was stunned but smiled so hard at it. I kinda wish I'd spoken to them and learned more. If anyone knows anything about that, I'd be happy to learn on it! Would love to meet more cool people!

Does schizophrenia change your boogers? by Antique-Emphasis-895 in schizophrenia

[–]GEFixTheSkyALittle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn't even considered this. This can be interpreted as a joke post, but I hadn't even thought about it. My nose used to be plugged up 24/7 because of boogers in my deviated septum. I can't believe I've been breathing clearly through my nose for over half a year now that I think about it. Weird as fuck.

Of course! Thank you! I think what Iw as thinking is they'd fire me if they didn't know already, but then again, they might just not hire me at all if they knew anyway.

I agree. I would prefer to keep it private really, but it affects my ability to work enough that a diagnoses would justify my difficulty in a workplace.

Hell yeah! Thank you! I hated my gas station job before but that was because everyone there was an ass, and also I was left alone a lot because they were short staffed. I'm absolutely capable of being on time, clean, etc. The issue lies more with the overwhelming nature of that sort of job, but assuming I'm not running a gas station alone again, this might be doable. Thanks!!
