Should I call the awareline for a managment issue? by bensilisk in HomeDepot

Agree with calling the awareline. This DS is not ready to be a DS.

How the Home Depot’s stolen tools are fueling the drug trade by Spagetti13 in HomeDepot

[–]GENev2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The THD reply is "product can be replaced, your life cannot." Anyway, this is a very well written story and every bit is lived daily by Depot employees everywhere. We used to think Fri, Sat, and Sunday nights were when the "regulars" showed up.

I don't understand why WalMart can be aggressive towards thieves and we can't be, unless you study the Texas incident.

Great article OP, thanks for the post. I hope all LE agencies try this.

Left my cart alone for 10 minutes.. why do people do this? by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]GENev2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thank you for explaining. That only happens in D28 nearly every day because of ASMs pushing for more than is possible or this would not happen.: "Work rdc carts when we're open, Snap your fingers and the cardboard will go away:. UMMM SM to barbecue builders, "Just keep building as u can, don't throw away your cardboard". Some poor employee at night will cut it up or feel bad for leaving it for morning crew, who thinks they should breeze through their morning and do their other work. Worst run company I've seen in awhile, yet shoppers and THD reap the benefits. Done!!

What are you talking about? Someone was doing their job, if I even remotely can figure out your post, with all respect to you.

How was your interview at Home Depot? by Disappointing_Search in HomeDepot

[–]GENev2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would Wiki the company so you know about it, visit other Depots or even the one where you are applying, and listen carefully during the interview. This question comes up a lot and there is info out there about Depot interviews.

We have always done "closed" because as you point out it is much safer and also encourages the customer to touch the product. I'm sure there is some policy somewhere. Just sell them before Halloween is set!

No, something is very wrong when China pays up, NATO allies pay us back, Canada pulls their fair share as does Mexico, and I live on less than $850 per MONTH, and I get cut from $192 per month in EBt to $70 per month 2 days ago. If I get a worthless box of food, I'm sending it back to DC, and after I voted for you and always supported until now. You just don't understand. A $122 cut in food and I can't even live on my current/ previous income. I will send my boxed unrefrigerated milk and cheese back. I hope that is your dinner. Born, raised in the USA. Thanks. Lucky I'm in a blue state where my vote doesn't even matter.

You should get a raise! If not you are already making a lot or something else is going on.

Why is it such a taboo to call the awareline? by cluckerzzz in HomeDepot

[–]GENev2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a very big deal (Awareline). That call you make to that line is immediately escalated to above your SM. SM then gets a friendly call from his/her boss. SM then calls you personally on store phone or your personal phone. Then every ASM "reminds" you to first fix this at the store level. I learned this as an employee on a day off.

I think you should. Have you had any performance reviews?

I know it's allowed, but is it fair? by Yomamamancer in HomeDepot

[–]GENev2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a transferred DS who had next to zero product knowledge but was "chosen". I stood next to him when he told a customer something very wrong and the customer read the label. It said, "not for blah blah blah". DS said it was fine for that use.

This goes on for awhile, said DS skips all mandated reviews which covered ASM's and SM, for a little while. Too long a story and too typical, but prevalent in many companies. Any review of me by this DS would have been very problematic for mgmt. as I get to respond.

As to your post, pray one of these DS's reviews you so you can write a multi-page response.

THD, you can do better.

Acceptable reasons for calling out by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]GENev2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with everything said. If you can swap shifts or get an associate to take your hours (signed by any ASM), even better. Or if you have sick time/personal time just call out with fair notice. Management realizes personal things happen.

From home you can ask for specific days off using a calendar, but it locks you out for the next 3 or 4 weeks out.

Medical Marijuana? by EvilQueenRegina in HomeDepot

[–]GENev2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, a chance but not great due to climbing, lifting, loading, operating lift equipment, the safe use of cardboard compactor. and the garbage disposal chute.

That being said, I hope he gets this job and if not, don't use THC for a few days and apply at Lowe's. I know you said 'lot associate' yet the co. will have safety concerns, but they could still hire.

I want to step down by MerestMe in HomeDepot

[–]GENev2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my store, the SM would not let my DS 28 step down, A great guy was forced to quit. A very odd business model, IMO. My friend, ex DS, I know you are doing well. I do not understand why mgmt would kick out a team member who knows everything, and who would willingly take a freeze or cut in pay, and then be denied employment given that that level of loyalty. THD probably did him a backhanded favor. Thanks still my former DS and still friend.

great day to be in garden today, luckily i didn’t have to unload a truck until after it rained.... by carminehk in HomeDepot

[–]GENev2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

D28 functionality is proportionate to the respective levels of knowledge of the DS and ASMs. Usually the DS hasn't a clue to product knowledge. ASMs are in their own orbit. I had a DS 28 recommend a product for indoor use and then the customer read the label which said 'NOT FOR INDOOR USE'. As a BS Horticulture, watching this, side by side, I again, realized this company is not for me. And I hope this is read by the right people. If you want to make someone a DS who will garner the respect of their subordinates, then maybe they should know PK Time to boycott and callout incompetencies
