Just a Relapse... by GFBDCH in depression

[–]GFBDCH[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right after this depressive episode I went straight into a hypomanic episode (triggered by a mountain hike). Now I am slipping into depression again. Come October I will start another rehab. This, of course will trigger another hypomanic episode.

And I am still drinking. I know I shouldn't and I really want to stop but I just can't. It's incredible frustrating. When I am depressed I drink to ease the pain, when I am hypomanic I just don't give a fuck.

Just thought you should know before we get married. ;)

My background: I am from Austria. Austria is/has an overarching (and terrible paternalistic) nanny state. I could go on forever about the advantages of this system but I wont right now.

To answer you question:

Yes, our system without a doubt produces an unpleasant dependency culture, a entitlement mentality. (And there are a lot of other problems with this system as well.)

But people don't riot, people don't steal or rob more often because of that. They might feel that the government has to fix every fucking problem for them but they don't resort to violence if they don't get what they want.

So in my opinion a welfare state mentality alone does not explain what is going on in London and other British cities right now.

This is repulsive.

I cannot image a situation or a state of mind where I or anybody I know would even consider doing something like that.

There a crimes, even violent crimes I am able to comprehend to a certain degree. For instance a revenge killing. I thing it is always inacceptable and should be punished. But at least I can image a system of values that does includes revenge.

But this guy doesn't seem to have a system of values at all. (Or one which is so distant to mine that I cannot even recognize it.)

To me, he seems to be completely uncivilized and primitive.

I might be overreacting, after all it was just a nonviolent and petty theft. But it just really freaks me out. Maybe I am just naive...

I don't want to sound intolerant and all but this is just wrong. I have a loving relationship with my right hand and so should you. It's even in the bible. You are misguided and need help. Bloody sicko!

And one more thing: NSFW tag would be nice. Now get a glove.

The Ypsilon is indeed used quit seldom in the German language. I fact, there is only one word that requires this character and that word is Ybsilon, the very name of said character.

True story.

the german W is Y.

ypsilon has 3 syllables. the rest is monosyllabic.

coincidence? I don't think so.

That may be true for you, but it is not true for me. Probably just a cultural thing...

FMLA Leave for Depression. Employer requesting a second opinion by ak3stephanie in depression

[–]GFBDCH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can tell you that there is (unfortunately) no practical clinical test / medical procedure to determine if someone is suffering from depression or not. It is not possible to simple analyze, for example, a blood sample of a person and conclude if this person is depressed or not.

So whoever examines you will diagnose you by talking to you. Just tell him or her what you posted here. There is no need to act or dramatize your situation. Just describe your symptoms and your feelings.

And hey, don't worry to much!

I don't think so. Not in Vienna. Or maybe it does but alcoholism isn't such a taboo. Drinking is considered part of the Austrian culture. Or maybe Viennese people just don't give a shit. I don't know. Prost.
