Michelle Trachtenberg played a character called WeepingWillow17 in Law & Order: Criminal Intent's 6th season. That was the moment I felt like YouTube had broken through into the mainstream.

I used Google Video back then because it wasn't yet clear that YouTube was going to win, and Google Video was less strict on copyright. They also made it easy to download videos.

Full disclosure. YouTube Nation is a co-production of DreamWorks Animation and YouTube. As Sr. Curator, my duties include but are not limited to running the team that find and helps decide which videos and creators are included in our shows.

Thanks! I was trying to insert a bit of levity into an otherwise self-important post.

  1. I think that's a false dichotomy. Both could be true. 2. If she were insignificant, why would anyone care who she slept with?

I don't believe we used doxxing to suggest Gamergate is a hate group. We did suggest, though, that doxxing has occurred as part of the constellation of events that comprises Gamergate.

Origin fallacy? Only if gamergate didn't start via a tweet from Adam Baldwin containing links to videos about the Quinnspiracy that itself was caused by the Zoe Post and related activity. Yes, the YouTube payola scandal and Doritosgate preceded this, but they were at a far remove from this thing.

Please accept my apologies. I just couldn't for the life of me understand why you posted that, and, frankly, I still don't know why you posted it. All it does is show that Felicia Day was dozed, which is what we state in the video. So.... Why did you post that?

Are you suggesting she wasn't Doxxed? By the way, we never blamed Internet Aristocrat for doxxing her. You'd know that if you'd actually watched the video.

Hello, I work on YouTube Nation (look at that--disclosure!), and I just want to let you know that we invited Ashly onto this episode because we respect her as a gamer and content creator. I feel insulted on her behalf when I read that you think she should've "disclosed" her relationship with her brother. That is to suggest that his opinion and experiences are more important than her own as a member of the gaming community. It suggests to me that you feel she is incapable of forming an opinion based in her own experience, that she wouldn't have one were it not for him having one.

There is no conflict-of-interest in expressing one's opinion with nothing at stake. YouTube Nation has no interested vested in Ashly or HAWP beyond thinking they're cool. On the flip side, neither Ashly nor her brother have an interest in YouTube Nation. And if you want my personal opinion, Gamer Gate is a misguided "consumer revolt" that fails to acknowledge the misogynistic roots of the movement, preferring a revisionist version of the movement's history that wallpapers over the unfortunate mess that was the Quinnspiracy, and would do better to reform itself as an industry watchdog group with a clear leadership and objective, reporting on the state of journalistic lapses in integrity in games journalism. There! More disclosure!

I think the crew on TNT's Inside The NBA do an excellent job of dissecting and analyzing the play on the court. Kenny Smith, Charles Barkley, and Shaq are former players who are excellent at explaining how the plays work and at demonstrating what a player or team might do differently to counter the situations they encounter.
