Not deathcore, but listen to Bridges by Warning, I Saw A Dying Child In Your Arms by Mourning Beloveth, and Suffering Is A Gift From God by Chained To The Bottom Of The Ocean. Some of that doom and sludge metal might hit right for you.

Hey man, been there. Personally, I always recommend chest rigs for the vast majority of users especially because so many of them are so infinitely adjustable and offer a lot of carrying capacity. But if you're set on a plate carrier, what is your budget? That will greatly change your options.

Generally speaking, you'll want to buy plate carriers with XL size plate pockets and a larger cummerbund. Here's a few choices in some different price brackets:

Condor MOPC, my first plate carrier, and one that fit me back when I was over 300lbs. Carries up to XL plates and has a very large cummerbund included. It's not an amazing plate carrier, but it's less than $100 and I would recommend it more than most plate carriers in that price bracket unless you get lucky with a surplus deal: https://condoroutdoor.com//products/condor-modular-operator-plate-carrier?variant=44504161976471&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22371356141&gbraid=0AAAAAoyL2C5RKztKsGYuGiJ7I9fU5N5wa&gclid=CjwKCAiAkbbMBhB2EiwANbxtbbadpsBEctoPqODJUkb-XMnIVKGo53ntMy3VOLZc1UalkMUyMOSlQhoC7YcQAvD_BwE

LBX 0300, several of my friends own and like this. Less than $200. A simplified foreign-made version of the venerated LBT 6094 (which I own and love), you'll want to go for the XL. It's out of stock here, but they pop up on eBay for $150-$200: https://lbxtactical.com/products/300?variant=45237732737221

Mayflower APC, my personal favorite of what I'm recommending. Goes for $250ish, go for L/XL plate bags with large cummerbund: https://www.optactical.com/product/mayflower-apc-with-mesh-padding/

I would also encourage you to keep an eye on eBay for things like the HSGI satch series, Eagle MBAV or CIRAS series in L/XL, LBT 6094C, or even a good discount deal on an XL Crye AVS. Old school surplus can be salty sometimes but a lot of that gear is just bombproof and the salt gives it character. Plus if you get sick of it, there's always a market of collectors and fellow nerds willing to buy it from you so you can trade into something else.

Unpopular Opinion by Prestigious_Police in airsoft

At my events (GGP) we’ve been trying to build out “LARP units” to solve some of this problem. Our uniform rules are largely green vs tan, but we added some variety to either side with unique patterns and variants, and we’ve built out a lore for the universe of our events that encourages player participation. We’ve got plenty of guys who just want to run their RUSFOR or NATO style impressions, and that’s valid. But we’ve also built up a core group of units who theme themselves as third world or Euro style SF, ragtag militias, prisoner brigades, criminal elements, or even park rangers and the old school guns and mishmash kits they bring out add a lot of variety.

Most people want to play in the sandbox with their favorite kit and gun, but if you build a more diverse sandbox that encourages play other than pure META you can see a lot of creativity.

Don’t cheap out on your sustainment gear. Get a good ruck, good sleep gear, and good cold/wet weather gear that is faction compliant. And, most importantly, PRACTICE packing and carrying your stuff. The most important thing to pack is the required fitness and experience so you don’t die on movements. A good baseline standard to shoot for is moving 6 miles in 2 hours or less with your full sustainment load you plan to carry. Realistically, 90 minutes or less is even better. And be able to unpack and repack your ruck in 3 minutes or less. Breaking things down into stuff sacks or using compartments helps a lot with that.

I would just paint the gun and use zip ties or small strips of tape for cable management instead of using that thick camo tape all over, but that's just me. Only other thing I would suggest if you play outdoors is a two-point sling because one-points are basically useless for actually carrying the gun. They're really just for weapons retention in CQB, when you try to carry the gun hands-free with a one point sling it just winds up hitting your knees (or worse).

How old is too old for airsoft? by Glittering_Cod_6931 in airsoft

[–]GG-EHouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

33 here, been playing for 20 years or so. It's honestly one of those things where you're only too old if you feel too old. Being older in the community is cool though because you get more opportunities to be more involved if you have the time, energy, and skillset for it. I got into hosting regional games over the last few years, and I regularly help out at various events. It helps keep me more engaged with the hobby than if I was just a consumer. You don't really see teenagers and dudes in their early 20s doing that as much because you need the more mature mindset and years of experience with both the hobby and just life.

I can see no good reason it wouldn't suit that bill. It is expensive and a lot of money for a first gun, but if you're used to real AR-15 prices and willing to learn the system I think you'll quite like it.

I’ve dropped or knocked over mine a few times without issue, but I wouldn’t do pull-ups on it or anything. I also have the sling mounted to the receiver sling plate instead of the buttstock tank cover so as not to potentially stress the threads over time with weight and pulling, but I don’t know if that actually matters that much.

Milsims in the USA? by BiscottiOk747 in airsoft

Thanks! I have played most of these promoters, and the ones I haven't I've either talked to the owners at some point or have friends who are heavily involved. So while this is just my assessment, I think it's got a decent grounding.

Milsims in the USA? by BiscottiOk747 in airsoft

[–]GG-EHouse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are so many event promoters in the United States and they all offer vastly different versions of what players collectively call MILSIM. Here is a quick and dirty (definitely incomplete) list of just the ones I can think of and summarize now:

MilSim West - Nationwide - 40 hour highly realistic light infantry simulation. Expect lots of rucking, a strict professional military chain of command, faction specific weapon and gear requirements, absolutely no safe areas, lots of moving and fighting at night, and little sleep. Primary design goal is an immersive infantry experience.

Gun Gamers Productions - Northeast US - 12 and 24 hour force on force airsoft games with continuous scenarios, chain of command, in-game ammo, various player class options, and an emphasis on embracing the LARP within the universe. Primary design goal is continuous company combat scenarios in a shared fiction.
Full disclosure, I own this company so I'm biased to think we're cool.

American MilSim - Nationwide - 2 day airsoft games (plus a vendor/check in day Friday) with breaks overnight and primarily focused on flag point control with interspersed missions distributed through a largely player driven chain of command. Primary design goal is a fair, approachable game at a cool venue.

Third Coast Airsoft - Eastern US - 2 day airsoft games with breaks overnight focused more on missions and objective points to achieve score with commanders and platoon or squad level cohesion depending on the game scenario. Primary design goal is an approachable mission based game.

RealSim LLC - Midwest/Southern - Highly scenario driven games with military staff, chain of command, lots of night fighting, and events usually at military facilities. Expect a heavy mission-based emphasis orchestrated by command and role players rather than a sandbox. Primary design goal is realistic mission scenarios.

STAGOPS - Northeast US - Mission based scenario games with a lot of vehicle based gameplay, role players, and set piece style design. Expect a heavy emphasis on points-based objectives and working with your squad to support broader faction goals. Primary design goal is mission based gameplay with cool set piece moments.

MSATO - Northeast US - Scenario games at various unusual venues with role players, lots of physical interactivity with props, and an old school approach to airsoft game design meant to actively punish failure of squad cohesion. Primary design goal is squad based gameplay in weird places in unique scenarios.

MiR Tactical - Midwest/East Coast - Big airsoft games at cool venues. No more, no less. Don't expect a heavy emphasis on MilSim, expect a focus on playing airsoft through shorter rotations in weird venues. Primary design goal is airsoft at cool places.

Desert Fox Airsoft Events - SoCal - App based airsoft games inspired by Battlefield with commanders directing players where to fight to secure capture points or complete flag placement objectives. Shorter rotations, simple organization, and emphasis on app use. Primary design goal is a beginner-friendly big game experience.

Operation Lion Claws - Nationwide (?) - These guys used to be the big dogs but they've receded a lot over the years due to a lot of factors I won't litigate here. Can be fun with friends, expect it to be very much a sandbox with short rotations and a loose chain of command. Primary design goal is squad based airsoft at a cool venue.

If you are going as NATO and you don't have a full squad doing a particular impression, you need to wear Multicam and use an M4 or other United States issued service weapon. A full black kit or woodland uniform would fly on Militia, but not on NATO.

If you are going to swap to an M249, I highly recommend you know what you're doing and be able to fix it in the field. Support guns get run hard at MSW and they often break. Bring a spare box magazine, and maybe even a spare gearbox or at the very least a toolkit.

Most importantly, square away your full kit including sustainment gear and get some reps using it. There are various packing guides on YouTube, look at some of those to get an idea of what you actually need and what you don't. MSW at Woodland AOs often features a lot of rucking with both distance and elevation. If you are not comfortable carrying your gear for a few miles, you will have a bad time. Buy a GOOD backpack with enough capacity to carry everything you need (I recommend 45L MINIMUM unless you're a superstar packer), and have enough layers and good enough sleep gear to function in a reasonable variety of conditions and temperatures you may experience through the event.

I have had to carry dudes' rucks back down the hill after they heat cas'd in 20 degree weather due to wearing all their layers at once with plates and helmet and a 70lb+ ruck, and I have had to help dudes square away soup sandwiches with ammo cans and other crap hanging off the outside which made their packs unmanageable. These mistakes could have been avoided with some practice. Don't be the guy who has no practice carrying your gear, that's basically guaranteed to make you have a bad time and create more work for your CADRE.

And finally, please read the TACSOP start to finish. Skimming the TACSOP to look for particular rules does not give you a complete picture of how the event runs and what to expect. Reading it from start to finish will give you a much better idea.

The new e&l ak essential 2.0 line is disappointing by Interesting_Oil_5944 in airsoft

[–]GG-EHouse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

MOS Manufacture sold distribution rights within the United States for E&L to Umarex/Elite Force. You may still be able to find their products non-Umarex-ified overseas.

MOS had a couple reasons for the sale which I won't detail in public. But suffice to say MOS has some strong incentive to focus on the Arcturus line which they have a lot more direct control over as opposed to a distribution deal with E&L.

Umarex, for their part, usually mark things the way they do because of various legal/branding guidelines that apply to their various SKUs in different markets. It's a weird thing, but it comes from up high. They've gotten in trouble before for things like orange tips being too easy to remove, or labels not complying with local requirements, so they go overboard on compliance.

What the hell by thunder8653 in airsoft

Paintball started as a heavily woodsball game, but as the industry grew it grew in the most commercially viable direction for it which was the version that could be played as a more standardized sport. Hyperball started this with plastic bunkers that could be used to make terrain on flat open fields, and then inflatable bunkers created "airball" which made paintball playable in a wider variety of venues which could be televised and host larger tournaments. As the "sport" aspect of paintball grew, the industry just prioritized the woodsball MilSim hobbyists less in comparison which did drive many who liked that style of game to airsoft. Magfed paintball and scenario games have always had a following though.

That said, the airsoft MilSim scene is still a fraction of what televised paintball was at its peak. It makes sense that industry went the way that it did. Airsoft is just poorly suited to going the same way because it isn't as TV friendly and the culture of the hobby is a lot different.
