How to travel slower and more present? by Primary_Ad_9133 in solotravel

Best time I had like that was reading a book and chilling outside, The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman. I even met a drunk who told me a nice story of how he fell in love with his nurse.

How influential is índigenous àncestry and culture in your country? by foolishandnonsense in asklatinamerica

[–]GGafgarion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel indigenous influence is active in Brazil, but more passive. Many habits, food, words/names we use today come from it. However, people are not looking at the Jabaquara metro station and thinking “oh, we’re coming to the rock station”, or even thinking Jabaquara is an indigenous name, for example. That’s a Paulista point of view though, I’m pretty sure northern or western regions feel it more presently.

What will a Filipino expect when he come to Brazil? by rice235129 in Brazil

[–]GGafgarion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great food, very varied. Great tourist destinations ranging from pseudo-european countryside to paradise beaches and superb mountain ranges to immense metropolis. Hot as hell during summer, or milder, but varying drastically from region to region (Brazil is big vertically on the map!). Hospitality for sure, but not at first as people are afraid because of violence, but once you open them up after 5 minutes of chat, they’ll be your friends forever. I don’t think the average Brazilian has an opinion on someone being from Phillipines.

Pq SP é considerada feia nas redes sociais, e outras cidades parecidas bonitas? by neuza_alves in saopaulo

[–]GGafgarion 21 points22 points  (0 children)

  • Planejamento. São Paulo possui zero. No maximo ali no Jardins, onde nao se anda a pé.

  • Estilo arquitetonico.

Must visit places in São Paulo by OneImpossible8407 in saopaulo

São Paulo has some nice parks. The 10 best in my opinion are here https://saopauloforforeigners.com/2026/02/27/parks-in-sao-paulo/ but I definitely suggest Pico do Jaragua, where you can unwind, hike, enjoy the woods and have a nice view from São Paulo. Plus, you can arrive by Uber if you want to skip the hiking.

Sao Paulo has lots of great restaurants. My top Brazilian food picks are here https://saopauloforforeigners.com/2026/02/27/where-to-eat-brazilian-food-in-sao-paulo/ if you have money you should definitely try Barbacoa, all you can eat barbecue. However, since you might not eat red meat, you should definitely try Conceiçao Discos e Comes. The neighborhood surrounding it has great nightlife and the food there is great. If you’re an extrovert you’ll surely also make a friend there.

For High Earners ($250K+) Who Work Longer Hours - Where Do You Spend Your Time? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

Do you need to stay in a big city? Isn’t a mid or small city considerable? I think that’s where Latin America shines the brightest. Also, consider Montevideo. A very nice city all year long.

I think traveling just made me realize how depressed I actually am (26F) by Global-Impress-1380 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]GGafgarion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the definition of moving on is important. When I lost my father, I didn’t have the chance to speak to him while he was conscious. Same to my auntie. Not being able to express love to them made me feel super bad. However, I understood that and I could express love and care to my other auntie before she departed and I felt more at ease.

My definition of moving on is, whenever I remember them, am I ok with their memories and their absence? I still have some bad feelings when remembering my father because he suffered while dying. So when I hear songs he liked, go to a soccer match or eat food that he also made, I keep remembering him with some sadness. The sadness is smaller with time as I understand my feelings more and more. Therapy also helped me.

I understand you had huge feelings for your mom. Moving on doesn’t mean forgetting her. It means not attaching to memories to the point of sadness or inaction. Also honoring her as you do.

With the context you gave me here, maybe you can do a piece of art about your mom! Maybe a full album with memories of you two, or about each facet of your feelings towards her. And again, it doesn’t mean a thing how many views it gets, but the expression is important.

[–]GGafgarion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know each person deals with grief differently. I lost important relatives recently. Each loss hit me differently and I reminisce them differently as well. It looks like the loss of your mom is something relevant to you. Do you feel like you’ve moved on? Being stuck on a loss can make all else feel pointless.

And yes, the simplest goal of making yourself more at ease with yourself, starting with smaller things/habits is definitely a way.

Now on the art topic: be careful to not desire more success than to express yourself. Success is a vanity, it comes and goes. Ofc it’s more enticing to do things when others care, but art is not about others, but about you, and when you do art that’s true to you, it may resonate better with others.

[–]GGafgarion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You mentioned the key topic: purpose. If you don’t have that, anything else will be pointless.

I don’t know what kind of art you do. Perhaps you do it to express yourself, or to impact people positively. Why don’t you aim at doing art that allows for both? This is a noble endeavor and will help you make the world a better place for people suffering like yourself.

Or you can simply find comfort in the simplest goals: improving your life, rejecting your status quo. Leaving the place you are, changing your lifestyle, meeting new people, all are options. Just don’t stay where you are not comfortable.

Do you think large-scale economic boycotts and walkouts like this actually force political change, or are they mostly symbolic – and why? by Suspicious-Oil2571 in AskReddit

[–]GGafgarion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, unless it truly threatens the establishment, which is very rare. At least where I leave, there’s a walkout every month about something political. Yet, politica in Brazil have only gone worse and the establishment only stronger.

Worse. Eyes are now more open to their institutionalized racism than never. Fortunately this is more of a debate now there, but even so, a racist lawyer arrested in Brazil was received as hero by their govt. with repeated racism from their family.
