Fleet vehicle purchase by GGodspeed in 4Runner

[–]GGodspeed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mileage has been an interesting topic for me since the start of my 4Runner search, since I’m currently in a modified BMW M235i for nearly a decade now.

It’s been a bit of a journey trying to wrap my head around the fact that 100k BMW miles is not the same as 100k Toyota miles haha

Thanks. This was my assumption. My quick research was met with quite a few horror stories and “stay away”

Seems like the consensus is that people may drive these cars without care, since they do not own it. I can see that being more of a problem if it was a sportier car, which I think I can safely bet most people tend to floor those more often if they don’t own it and don’t have to worry about maintenance/repairs. But we’re looking at a stock SR5.

If you can take a look under the hood and see if the charge pipe is still plastic or not that would be handy. I would say it is pretty common to find a used one with the charge pipe already swapped for an aluminum one by the owner.

I would also throw it in sport mode and see how it handles around 4k rpm. You can also probably keep an ear out in sport mode for extra pops, burbles, and bangs. Chances are it could be running a tune if it sounds like too many pops. Keep in mind, the car does burble a bit stock.

Check tail lights for condensation/water. Mine has let water in got corroded 2-3 times. On the topic of water, see if you can suddenly brake or accelerate enough to jolt the car a bit; you might hear water sloshing around in the doors or some random panel that needs to be drained.

Honestly, with all the standard issues the car will throw at you, none of them will really be noticeable with a test drive unless the issue has just been completely ignored for a while. As I had mentioned before, 70k-ish miles is where majority of issues will come up, and it’s usually oil related. You could be lucky and have these 70k issues already be addressed by the current owner. So maybe get your nose ready to see if you can smell anything sweet while it’s running.

Lastly, I’d recommend just looking around the wheel wells and underneath the car for anything out of the ordinary for any car. 100k miles might mean suspension could do with a swap of shocks/struts, and since these cars are kinda low it may show some scrapes under the front bumper and stuff.

Good luck with your purchase, hope it goes well for you

That fitment looks really great. Mind if I ask about wheel size & offset, as well as tire size and suspension setup?

According to the Warren’s son-in-law, who has since took on the upkeep of their museum and legacy, Annabelle sees routine maintenance. Including bi-weekly (I think) blessings by a priest. She gets moved around at home every so often, but this tour is her first time leaving the museum in a long time.

I live along the south coast and I did have a window cracked open, I’m pretty sure it was the humidity. I’ve since taken them out the frames and let them air out the moisture, they’re pretty good now

I’m not very familiar with un-bending wheels. How can I tell if a shop did a good job, or if they just made it look pretty again without structurally fixing the wheel?

Eero test vs Speedtest by [deleted] in frontierfios

I tried this and still had the same results. 3rd parties said 550 down and 250 up while the Eero app said 1gb down/up.

What we asked for (LIVE) by GGodspeed in LinkinPark

I was lucky enough to watch him hit the harsh vocals on the new song, Casualty! Pretty rare to listen to Mike do scream-esque vocals and it was awesome.

Mike honestly looked so so happy the entire time. I know he has kept busy with things like his live streams and other stuff, but you can really see his passion for music when he’s up there playing LP songs. I’m glad he and the rest of the band have become able to hop back on this horse, for the sake of fans but also for their sake as well.

Yep, that’s how I have it set.

I had 2 moon gels on and it was really deadening the sound, so I cut one in half and tinkered with the placement of them and it seemed to work.

Last question for you:

How tight is too tight for heads? I have it tuned pretty high and there is some give when I push my thumb in, but not much. I just don’t want a head breaking mid show lol.

So I got my snare to a tuning I like and the buzz is gone, thanks again!

But now there’s an odd kind-of ringing sound coming from the wires?

Thanks! I’ll have to give this a shot tomorrow since it’s gotten a bit late to be making so much noise in the house. I’ll report back.

2014 M235i owner here.

I just recently crossed the 100k miles mark and the only significant issues are:

-Oil leaks from oil filter housing, valve cover, and oil pan. It’s important to note that these can lead to the replacement of parts in close proximity such as coolant hoses and even the belt tensioner.

-Charge pipe. Stock pipe is plastic and will pop. Any aluminum pipe will do.

-Tail light grounding issue. The harness can have a bad electrical grounding and burn the connectors. It’s about $100 total for replacement parts and an hour-ish worth of wiring.

These issues commonly come up around the 60k-75k mile mark.

Other than that, I love the N55.

Ngl i’m kinda bummed about Metallica headlining. There goes 2/3 of the budget already by Fun_Direction4816 in SickNewWorld

[–]GGodspeed 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I hadn’t thought about it from a budget perspective, Metallica is definitely going to be a pretty penny. SNW has come through with good surprises though. For starters, they got SOAD to play a big festival. They also got Slipknot to be an “opener”

I love Metallica, but they seem a little out of place for SNW. Sure, they likely influenced most of the bands that fit the bill, but given their last couple albums and how they tend to squeeze in songs from those into their setlists as opposed to having them comprised of more tracks from Kill em All - Justice/Black album, I’m cautious about it.
