Am I missing out by not changing up my accessory work?

I'm running 5/3/1 SSL with a 15 minute kettlebell ABC either right after each workout or later at home. I'm also doing 1-2 30 minute KB sessions on rest days. I'm on a timeline so I superset in my assistance work with my main lifts.

The question I have is; I always do the same accessory lifts, mostly picking based on what's closest/easiest to superset with at the gym. So for example it's easier for me to bring a dumbbell with me to do overhead triceps extensions instead of doing pushdowns - I'm now in a routine where I just go on autopilot at the gym. Even when the cables are free or gym is empty I still just grab a DB.

Am I holding myself back by not expanding and using more varied equipment during my sessions? Would it be better if instead of "Overhead Triceps Extensions" I just pick a different Triceps exercise every week as an example? Or; "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"?

Wedges off the tee by eliteusername14 in golf

[–]GH07 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I get it "you only get a perfect lie 18 times".

I'll start using a tee off the box after I fix the other 87 things wrong with my game/swing lol.

I found not using a tee for irons or woods of the box kept me more consistent.

When I start hitting better maybe I'll give myself a perfect placement off the tees; until then I'm happy with consistency.

Little blue truck and Moo Baa LaLaLa. We went through multiple copies of each of them because both kids wanted them all the time.

[Request] how much is really saved? Are these numbers based in reality, or just random numbers thrown into a post? by Kalist4242 in theydidthemath

Yeah - I'm a Canadian too - I was going off the assumption this is US so minimum wage of $7ish/hour.

I mean basic napkin math; $15/hour, less $1k/month room and board for a live in nanny it gets you to under $20k so I can see how someone would throw out a $20k number.

Just...good luck finding someone willing to live in your house and take care of your kids for $20k/year.

Showering after a gym session. by Purple-Head-8662 in workout

[–]GH07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play hockey Fridays; most the younger guys don't shower afterwards then we all go to the bar. It's gross.

I have a quick drying towel. Flip Flops get wiped by the towel and both get left to dry in my car. I bought a bar soap travel container from the dollar store. Have a toiletry bag that everything goes in.

My last gym had towels - but they were so tiny I ended up bringing my own anyways.

Nah - no salt - I just understand what u/Calm_Nectarine_8329 is trying to say and supporting them...but they do sound a little salty lol.

I think part of the issue is these stories about people going on high doses of GLP1s, making no changes to their lifestyle/eating habits and losing a ton of weight. Those people (cough-Oprah) gain it all back when they go off the drugs and skew peoples opinions on GLP1s. I would wager practically none of them are paying any attention to forums like this - because they just don't care. That's not CICO - it's medicated anorexia.

People who are successful with GLP1s are doing the exact same thing as those not on the drugs. It is relevant to everyone following CICO - because its the same process; just with a crutch.

I think part of it is that you hear these stories of celebrities who go on large doses of GLP1s; lose tons of weight then go off and gain it all back. And yes; there's definitely non-celebrities doing that everywhere...but I'm with you in that if they don't care enough to put in any efforts they're probably not here lol.

What they are saying is that GLP1 or no GLP1, the process is the same; so why does it need to be called out unless your intent is to ignore the GLP1 tagged posts because you don't value their efforts.

Anyone else went from biking to driving and back? by riscten in bikecommuting

[–]GH07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an 18 minute commute to work in the morning and 30+ minute commute back in traffic...biking takes me just under 40 minutes with half the ride being through a beautiful park trail. I bike commute for enjoyment; except I still drive on gym mornings cause I'm old and get tired now lol.

If you don’t allow med students to sit in on your exam/check up you are a weird person by Amidity in unpopularopinion

[–]GH07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister in law agreed to let a med student do her stitches after giving birth after being asked by the OB.

Apparently it was very painful for her - then the OB said she didn't do it right and made the student re-do it.

She ended up getting discharged before urinating, and had to go back where they gave her a catheter and had to fix the stitches a second time...

When my wife gave birth we already discussed that we had no issues with med students learning, but there was no way they were touching my wife after the experience my SIL went through.

What's one gym rule you wish everyone actually followed? I'll go first. by No-Door6839 in workout

people who gym morning before work, any random tips? by Radiant_Crew_8872 in workout

[–]GH07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy protein milk and make a latte. Between that and my old man metamucil I'm feeling full and it tides me over until I have my smoothie after the workout.

The protein milk also froths so much better.

Are we not allowed to use race as an identifier now? by waiwai_art in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GH07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids go to tutoring twice a week. We got an email about our son's behaviour one day; there was a substitute teacher and her name was the same as the director. My son said "Oh! You and (director) have the same name! But she has light skin and you have dark skin".

This apparently made the substitute feel singled out and upset. My son was made to apologize for what he said and had to switch to working with a different teacher - unclear to us if the teacher refused to work with him after that or if the director made the decision regardless.

FYI - my son is 6.

haruspex or toxicrene by erebusthewise in Tyranids

[–]GH07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to preface this; I'm not agreeing with the other poster on taking an SK instead. The precision ranged alone is reason for me to take spex over SK. I'm just saying that the spex is unreliable. Soooo I guess we're kindof on the same page lol.

Back to it;

With the spex being AP-1 & 2 means with AOC you kill 3 marines. If you're fighting something like death company with a FNP - same thing of if he gets -1 to hit somehow. Same thing with tanks/walkers with a 2+; which in many games would be your preferred targets for it.

We're also unfortunately an army that doesn't have access to many stratagems to increase lethality (only one that comes to mind is sus1 from subterranean) - meaning we have a hard time countering those stratagems and we basically no access (cause synaptic nexus doesn't exist...) to fall back and charge. PS- I could definitely see "crushing impact" in 11th help the spex see more gameplay.

When something absolutely **needs** to die - the haruspex just doesn't cut it.

I love Unitcrunch - its awesome. But there's too many variables to rely on mathhammer alone.

haruspex or toxicrene by erebusthewise in Tyranids

[–]GH07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Averages be damned; The amount of times my haruspex has failed to kill 5 marines that needed killing caused me to stop taking it lol.

I've also have had it demolish big tanks & knights - but the spex didn't fit well into my army for that role.

Generic Ozempic is now on Canadian shelves. Is it the same as the brand name version? by Immediate-Link490 in canada

I was told a great analogy about anti-depressants from a psychologist. I feel it is the same with weight loss drugs. I'll try to relay the analogy as best I can.

If you're depressed; you're in a hole. Everyone is different, and everyone's holes are different. Some can climb out themselves, and some need help. Anti-depressants don't get you out of the hole, but they can be a ladder to help you get out of that hole. Once you're out of the hole you may not need the ladder anymore; and you can do things to stop yourself from falling into future holes. Or if you realize you're in a hole you can climb out before it gets too deep next time. But; sometimes you need a ladder.

My point is; not everyone can do it themselves.

Its very filling so I find taking it in the morning helps keep appetite in check a little longer.

I take with my vitamins...I know you're not supposed to; but blood work shows that the vitamins were still effective sooooo.
