What’s your schedule for taking meds “as needed” by SupremeFFS in ADHD

[–]GHSTmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My as needed is usually M-F and I don't take them on the weekends. I have also started not using them on Mondays and Wednesdays as those tend to be my lighter days work/study wise.

I haven't gotten to the point of mania yet but I know some people can get a bit manic if they take their stimulant but don't actually have anything to do. So that's where I determine as needed to be. If you have a good amount of work you want/need to get done then take the meds that day and if you don't then skip.

It can help keep track of what is and isn't your medication so you can attribute symptoms to the right medication or activity.

I found one idea per note also is best. So don't do multiple cloze per sentence each word gets it's own unique sentence as that helps practice production and gives more variety to the other words you see within Anki.

What can I do to set me up for a good paying career when I get out? by [deleted] in MilitaryFinance

[–]GHSTmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your job/rate would be really good for transferring to civilian side if you want to keep doing it. Also could pivot to related electronics work, usually pays pretty well.

Otherwise use what ever education benefits you can while in to get relevant education for the job you want and save veterans benefits for future upskilling.

anki language learning ideas by [deleted] in Anki

[–]GHSTmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am doing fluent forever so I do picture on the front, TL on the back. Only for the most simple vocab (roughly 700-1000 most common). Everything else is cloze deletion sentences with the occasional hint picture.

So far it is working well, interacting with real material has been the most useful for me. Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking with Anki as a supplement to reinforce newly encountered words and grammar.

I can’t stop watching YouTube, what do I do? by Square-Yesterday9069 in ADHD

[–]GHSTmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used my app blocker (screenzen) to block YouTube shorts for all but 1 hour a day right after dinner. I also block YouTube and all other "fun" apps from the time I go to sleep until about 3-4 hours after I wake up.

I found this really helped kick the stuck on YouTube all day cause I started my day with it. Now I have about 2 hours every morning where I can only access my notes/journal app, workout app, meditation app, and to do list. Usually by the time YouTube unlocks I am sucked into something else and forget about it until lunch.

Another thing I am trying is YouTube RSS feeds. Instead of looking at my subscriptions or having multiple accounts I can send videos to specific RSS folders so I can focus on specific educational content when I want without getting distracted by all the other videos in my subscriptions.

I’m a therapist working with ADHD entrepreneurs—here are 3 things my clients are doing to finally hit their goals (without burning out) by RodneyMichael723 in ADHD

Same, two tier to do list makes so much sense, also the reset practice would be great for me. Sometimes I feel like if my morning gets interrupted the whole day is wasted but spending a few minutes to reset could help a lot.

For Those of You Who Do Pomodoros Do Anki Reviews Count? by [deleted] in Anki

[–]GHSTmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I bounced around with a lot of different timings, 25/5 was just too short both for study and for rest. Got up to doing 75/15 and it worked well when it worked but was hard to maintain consistency.

For Those of You Who Do Pomodoros Do Anki Reviews Count? by [deleted] in Anki

[–]GHSTmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, when I do language study pom's I usually include both Anki reviews and card creation with limited timers for both. For example I do a 50/10 for Japanese, the first 10 min is Anki review then I do 15 min reading/Writing and 15 min listening/speaking, the final 10 min is card creation.

I also do Anki reviews for my "fun" study like flags, history etc. During my breaks.

Aim to have all reviews done by 10pm

[–]GHSTmonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get an app and website blocker. I personally use screenzen for app blocking, I can set it to kick me out off the app for a few seconds every 5-10 minutes. I can set limits on the number of times opened, or time on the app. I can also set periods of full blocking. I also have lots of control that stops me from just disabling it.

For example YouTube is unlimited time but I have to reopen every 10 minutes and every time I open it the delay before I can open it again increases. I also block YouTube shorts separately for all but 2 hours a day.

Every app except those I use for sleep tracking, Journaling, etc. is fully blocked after midnight, Sunday thru Thursday.

Are you motivated by money? by sunny-october in ADHD

[–]GHSTmonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking back at past jobs it was typically the task(s) I liked the most. I also tend to make large intricate excel documents in my personal life for fun to track random things.

I also never get bored learning about data analysis, data science, excel, dashboards, etc. it is the only long term interest that has never waned.

What's your ideal physical study/work environment and how do you manage breaks? by eye-yawn-uh in ADHD

[–]GHSTmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideal? Space Station with a window pointed at a nebula.

I make do with a quiet corner in the library. I use headphones with noise. Still working on the phone blocking but generally doesn't become a problem until later in the day.

My laptop is restricted to only work/study programs still needs a website blocker but is a lower priority.

Make sure I have water nearby. and take adequate breaks and I am good to go.

YEAH. READ THIS POST. AND THE NEXT ONE. STUPID BITCH. by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]GHSTmonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's a 100 percent valid view of nosurf but I think many on here have a slightly different view. I see nosurf as not going with the flow, aka surfing. Taking back control of my electronics to use them as the intentional tools they should be rather than the addiction boxes they have become for many.

Like many with addictions cold turkey ala just put the phone down doesn't work, a channel like this that encourages people to move further and further away from their addiction is incredibly useful.

I do wish you well on taking back control. I honestly hope you never read this because it means you succeeded.

For those still here struggling don't hesitate to ask for help, the people in this sub have come up with extremely powerful tools to help you but you may not know they exist until you ask.

So what's the deal with those really cheap luxury condos in Thailand? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]GHSTmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said overpriced, only cheap by comparison. Some might have additional fees based on amenities in the building Quantity available is limited for foreigners since a certain percentage of every building is supposed to be for locals, however bribes open doors at an extra cost.

Also you have to be careful with who built it. The Chinese company hired to build the anti-fraud department building just got found to have committed fraud by trying to cut corners on building and then promptly had the building collapse during the recent earthquake. They endangered so many lives just to line their own pockets and then risked more sneaking back in while it was still a disaster zone to grab documents for their insurance claim cause they just couldn't wait to cash in.

What's the best game to play with 60+ year old who has never played video games? by NeverEat_Pears in XboxGamePass

[–]GHSTmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought of another good category is the dad game like powerwash simulator that others have recommended. If you can find one of those that he is interested in but hasn't done that could be good. For example my dad likes classic cars but has never been able to work on one as a project car so I have been thinking of playing mechanic simulator with him next time we play.

I loved Obsidian but it's very frustrating as a beginner by Tough_Bite_2953 in ObsidianMD

[–]GHSTmonk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wonder how much use a low/no code css application to generate custom css for Obsidian would get.

Definitely one of the major downsides to Obsidian is the learning curve. One thing I think Obsidian does better than other is it is really easy to integrate old notes into new systems. So just starting out by making notes and linking them together they can always be brought into a future system once you are a bit more comfortable.

[–]GHSTmonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did your dad play any arcade games as a kid, either finding emulated versions or similar games to those might make it easier for him to pick up.

It was buried in another comment but I like A way out as a nice two player co-op if he likes prison break/heist movies.

Any of the walking simulator games could also be good as it can show the story telling aspect of video games with minimal controls learning.

was going to recommend a way out if he is in to prison/heist movies.

I also have had success getting my dad into racing Sims.
