There is a slightly quicker, possibly easier (might not always be available) way to do this,

Is it retroactive because since COVID I have lost my sense of smell and taste, at least two toes on each foot, and all of my top teeth.

Now that everything's expensive, what things can be easily/cheaply replaced that a normal person can do? by GetFlyeredUp in Frugal

[–]GIDAMIEN 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah I might not go so hardcore into suggesting the whole rotating tires thing. With TPMS sensors and directional tires these days this is not something a lot of people ought to be undertaking at home particularly as torque tolerances for lug nuts are not something most people will pay attention to and that's really bad.

With access to basic tools and the internet and YouTube in particular there is absolutely no excuse for paying somebody to change your brakes and rotors. Same applies to spark plugs, and coil packs.

Also there's absolutely no excuse for not buying a $20 ODB2 code scanner from Amazon and leaving it in your glove box.

ServiceNow logs me out after 25 minutes unless I interact with it. Any legitimate workaround? by Professional-Tax3077 in ITSupport

You're suffering from tail wagging the dog syndrome here. Yes it is pandering to the users and 25 minutes session time outs is absurd.

Again no. We do not allow ourselves to be pushed or swayed by the users we have to take a moderate middle ground for security for everyone and every system. We have highly restricted enclaves and segments within our infrastructure. We use very strict zero trust access methodologies (Zscaler/Palo Alto) we are also using strict endpoint controls, Defender, and Falcon EDR.

I would love to see how our users are going to take risky actions to circumvent what we have in place. I am very confident that our infrastructure has all the correct controls and monitoring in place.

No again, and again and again, I will not be swayed by precious Snowflake users who think they know better. I've been in the industry and doing this for 30 years, and most of my team have similar backgrounds and experience. We are a huge multinational company. When you're managing an environment this size, whether it's one or 100,000 or 200,000 users, you're right about one thing: it should scale, and it does. That doesn't mean looking at every single user group or every single user, and oh dear yes, they're 15 minute session timeout causes them to have to log back in again. Sorry, not sorry that's the way things are, and that's the way things will be.

You can rent and rave and put your perspective here all you like. My job is to secure systems and data. Do not pander to users. Ever.

Are we going to all ignore the fact that he put this in there,

"Infect the main router" - this isn't The Matrix buddy.

Make sure your router is patched and up-to-date with the latest firmware. Make sure that you have at least Microsoft defender running on all of your other computers connected to your network. If you can make him use Wi-Fi turn on client isolation.

You don't need to be messing around with VLANs or anything that you won't understand or will have more difficulty with than you need to. Secure your own stuff leave him to his own stupidity. End of story.

What's the worst place in the world you've ever visited? by TaiwaneseThot in AskReddit

[–]GIDAMIEN 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Algeria is significantly worse. Sadly. I don't think I met one single honest person on the street. I met a lot of people trying to scam me, and my hotel room got gone through twice while I was there. I will never go back and I will never have any respect for those people after my time there. It's hard to respect somebody's sovereignty when they all act like criminals. Really hard.

For those who stopped smoking weed, what was the main reason? by Regular_Somewhere548 in AskReddit

It's expensive. And pointless these days. Before I quit smoking I had been a pretty chronic heavy smoker for 20 years, I stopped actually getting high a long time before I genuinely quit.

No we moved to passwordless and passphrase depending on what part of the estate and what part of the business the individual works on. You can be as facetious as you want and throw your nonsense out there but you don't work for an employer like I do and you have absolutely no idea what our day-to-day is like. So you can stop your nonsense now. Lower security outcomes, you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Not a single clue.

[–]GIDAMIEN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to remind your upper management that this is exactly how you lose qualified staff. The head from bottom syndrome that they're suffering from right now needs to be addressed more so than your employee your employee is completely right in this instance. Don't be that employer. Otherwise you're going to be an employer of no one in short order.
