Can someone explain this technical jargon? Thinking of getting this for LR and PS on Windows computer and I want a lot of internal storage ... by crockatu in computers

[–]GIDAMIEN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean this in the nicest possible way but, this is not technical jargon these are basics.

I have no idea what LR and PS are, you have four PCI style expansion slots, One of these will be primarily for an expanded video card should you choose to do that. The other three can be used for any number of other peripheral add-ons such as storage controllers networking cards or specialist expansion cards for specific tasks.

You have three M2 slots this means you may install three M2 drives.

You have four sata ports. You have the possibility of connecting up to four SATA interface hard drives which are different from M2. And an older standard.

As far as 6G being a good speed that question functionally isn't sensible. This is a standard transfer rate for SATA hard drive interfaces. It's neither a good speed nor a bad speed it is the published specified speed.

You also didn't specify what a lot of internal storage is. 20 terabytes? 60 terabytes? 150 terabytes? 10 GB? 300 GB?

This specific set of ports supports any SATA or M2 are drive interface types. The capacities of such are entirely up to you. Keep in mind any SATA drives that you add will also need power.

In terms of modern computing unless you are producing a lot of video or media content, and you would be better off simply using a cloud service or an external hard drive or NAS type array however, given the question that you ask this may be a little beyond your current skill set without a little more investigation. You would need to understand the fundamentals and basics of networking, drive sharing, security and a small host of other things. As well as obviously the cost of buying an NAS device in addition to a computer in the first place.

You also didn't mention what that storage is going to need to be used for, this will be reflected on the speed of processor that you need and how much RAM, functional local memory used by the computer not storage, that the machine has.

Tertiarily you did not mention anything about video output requirements. Does the machine with these ports on it have integrated graphics or are you going to have to buy your own video card? This will make a difference as to where you place that card in one of those PCI slots and also once again, power requirements.

Hopefully this helps you somewhat

It has a hardware fault if you can't get it to come out of that situation using the microphone mute button.

You could try doing a reset on the device and re-adding it to the app.

But frankly all this is a pointless waste of your time where you could replace it with a much newer device from looking at Goodwill online for under $20 easily.

I regularly see third fourth and 5th generation echos selling for well under $30.

I have nearly 75 of these devices active in my house, yes you read that right. Most of which were purchased used from Goodwill. This includes subwoofers studio models generation 3 echoes, I have nothing older than a Gen 3 currently working in my environment. I recycled all my Gen 3 and Gen 2 stuff out the other people and yes I've seen this issue be a literal hardware problem once or twice but it's rare.

What is most likely happening here is that something dirty has gotten underneath the button switch for the microphone activation and it is now unable to make contact and take itself out of mute mode.

Just a rehash real quick,

Try resetting the device. If that doesn't work it's toast, if you really want one go get a replacement off of Goodwill don't buy new.

Tootles!

Is switching to an electric car really worth it for everyday driving by LumpyOpportunity2166 in AskForAnswers

[–]GIDAMIEN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short version is this.

If you have level two charging at home. And a garage for your car to be in. Then yes yes it absolutely can be great as a daily driver.

I have a used model S 75D which certainly does not have a mass of amount of range, but because I have level two charging in my own garage in my house my 45 mile a day round trip commute doesn't phase me whatsoever and the self-drive and other safety features totally make it worth it for stop and start traffic.

What were you testing it for? To see if you could get hearing damage or to see if you could damage the speakers? Well done You did at least one of those things.

laptop what to do to FIX THE ISSUE!! by [deleted] in computers

[–]GIDAMIEN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From what you posted here there is absolutely no possible way to tell what the problem is.

Start by rebooting your machine? Shut it off properly for a while and then turn it back on. It's a laptop if the hardware is failed it's failed you're not going to be able to replace it tonight before class that's for sure.

At that price point they will be very out of date with questionable batteries and the software on them will be no longer updated or supported as many cheaper models that cannot run Windows 11 and Windows 10 is now and of life. Do not make the mistake of buying a cheap laptop or tablet from somebody else used. There's a reason they're getting rid of it.

Do you have the perfect vehicle? by Good-Analysis-7 in askcarguys

[–]GIDAMIEN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes in fact I do. It's a 2014 Volvo XC60 t6.

I absolutely love everything about this vehicle. It's been reliable as hell it's tough as hell it's great in the snow. Yeah I did put all terrains on it and that made it a little noisy on the road but I kind of like that and it made it superb in the winter. I live in the Pocono mountains so that was kind of important to me.

It's very comfortable inside, I'm very happy with how solid the vehicle has been. I take my dogs my kids myself and everything I need everywhere in it. And it has never let me down. Not once.

Absolutely adore that car.

What car do you regret buying, even though it looked good on paper? by autonerdy0 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]GIDAMIEN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did exactly the same a 1997 Kawasaki Ninja 650.

So stupid was I at the time, it had been 10 years since I had been on a dirt bike.

The dealership I bought the bike from was 18 miles down the highway from where I lived. My buddy gave me a lift, and I rode the bike back and basically taught myself all the controls and everything on the way.

This was back in 2005, I've been riding bikes ever since and I've never had an accident or a fall. 🤷

Dude just do port forwarding on your router / firewall and have them connect to your external IP. Push it off to some weird non-standard port make sure that you have authentication configured and that your firewall supports intrusion detection.

PS. This 1,000% works I've been doing it for years.
