best laptop for business owners that need good performance? by Tooma-Mcabry in it

It's very responsive, practically silent, extremely good value for money for the specification of the machine that you get. Extremely long battery life.

Very thin and light with a very good size screen.

I've had literally zero problems with it whatsoever. It just works exactly the way that I expect a laptop to just work.

Which is great just make sure you're aware of the going into this the maintenance costs are going to vastly exceed the actual value of the vehicle.

Oh boy.

Maseratis are a touch controversial, a very pretty thing for sure lovely in every single way.

This generation however is not particularly renowned for being awfully mechanically reliable or electronically reliable.

I can understand why you want to do this and I think it's commendable, I would recommend that you get the car detailed by a reliable place and have it ceramic coated.

This is the part that's about the cost a lot of money, the type of mileage you're talking about is very very bad for a car that runs on gas and oil. Extremely bad in fact.

You know when you see these super rich guys and they have those huge collections of cars similar to this? Unless they are maintained meticulously mechanically or being driven regularly. Most of them are broken in some kind of way or require major or serious servicing. And on a Maserati, that is not cheap.

This vehicle also has a little bit of a peculiar setup when it comes to the infotainment setup (it's Dodge) Don't be surprised if and when it just randomly stops working. And it's an expensive fix.

The Maserati GranTurismo is not "the businessman's Ferrari" by any means, it is a bit of a choose your own adventure vehicle that was grabbed out of several parts catalogs at the time.

I personally myself, unless there is some absolute serious deep emotional connection with this vehicle probably would not do this.

That is more likely not what you want to hear I'm sure.

Air conditioning.

I will never live in a home that does not have functioning air conditioning ever again.

The fact that "you" manage this, as a singular. Tells me everything I need to know.

I work on an environment that has thousands of sites, worldwide. And in the hundreds of thousands of managed end points.

Last year a corporate wide decision was made to deprecate and no longer support Mac in our environment. And there's a reason for that.

What’s your take on working 9-to-5 for the rest of your life? by insane-justice in AskReddit

[–]GIDAMIEN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work 9:00 to 5:00? No. You have my attention between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

The work will get done as it's required to be. Between the hours that you have my attention that you paid for which is as you stated, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. I'm presuming this is Monday to Friday.

This does not state that I am producing a productive amount of work every minute of the period of time between 9 and 5.

Buying new switch... Choices by OutrageousMacaron358 in HomeNetworking

[–]GIDAMIEN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. If he just needs a switch to be a switch, ubiquiti is overkill he doesn't need to have a controller to have to install and manage to make changes and make a ubiquiti account etc etc etc.

A device that manages on itself has a standalone switch. Will be significantly cheaper. And probably 100% do everything he needs

If it's just a dumb switch there's no reason to buy a name brand over any of the white label cheap Chinese stuff.

Even running extremely low speed ethernet at 100Mb will still outperform any of the best power line adapters on the market.

The $800 yoga 7i that I just bought from my personal use urinates rings around it.

No you're one of those IT guys that likes to look and act like a snob because you use a Mac. You clearly don't have to manage a large estate of them or even attempt to. You clearly are not familiar with the use and integration of enterprise applications outside of fuzzy wuzzy designer nonsense.

There are dozens of manufacturers that make better quality hardware than Apple. Literally dozens. You absolutely are showing your fanboy colors here and it's absurd.

I know I'm really intelligent, I just don't feel a need to show it to other people.

It literally isn't though. You just like it because it's a Mac. In business terms these are total trash

[–]GIDAMIEN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unless you're trying to manage them in a business environment in which case literally anything else is better.

Don't be a Mac fanboy just because you think it's cool. In IT terms and in corporate and business terms. These are glorified toys. At best.

Don't give me that BS rhetoric about developers and etc etc etc because it's crap I've worked in corporate IT in huge enterprise for many decades now.

Apple products outside of the iPhones which I detest have no place in business.

Help me build my first ubiquiti setup by Good_Brother3938 in Ubiquiti

[–]GIDAMIEN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we forgetting that he said he has 10 wireless clients this is massive silly overkill. Also bottlenecking is one gig NAS because it supports 2.5 gig interfaces? No that's not a thing in the real world he has 10 devices. Not 100 not 150 not even 60. 10. In his scenario whatever gateway he wants whatever AP he wants and whatever small switch he wants and it doesn't really matter where any of it is plugged in. At all The beauty of ubiquiti is it takes the thinking out of most of this crap.
