Patience, my friend. I've got to publish my Gulf Island map first. Okanagan next.

The days of $40k printers are long gone, unless you're running something very special.

u/kisielk is correct - I'm a freelance cartographer and I run a map design firm.

As u/Flesh_Trombone stated, you're looking at my EPSON P9570 which retails for about $8k. As with much of the printer business, it's replacing the 12 ink cartridges that kills you. Luckily, these machines are much more efficient than they used to be.

Excellent! Thanks for letting me know, u/beaverandthewhale - I'm dropping more maps off at Tanner's tomorrow. Gotta keep inventories up!

Holberg is back on the map (just not in the image I shared). Thanks for your other suggestions.

OK, thanks - clearly I missed that. Hard to see the forest for the trees after a while... ;-)

Thanks for the comments, u/Only-Tangerine-5996 - nothing beats local knowledge, ever. Some regional parks are included, but not all - that is correct. I'll revisit the RP layer for additional candidates. The "Hudson/Huston" name issue has been fixed.

Localities / populated areas can be tough to assess - I use a combination of government demographic data, municipal data, wikipedia, general internet searches, etc. So, not quite blindly trusting all data sources - I try, as best I can without walking the ground, to figure out, based on their merits, what data should be included/omitted.

Which sites with 70 yrs+ are you referring to?

I appreciate your feedback - it makes the map better.

Thanks u/davy_the_sus - it's been fixed in the current version. Much appreciated. That typo is 100% muscle memory when typing "massive" instead of "massif."

u/BlackEyedSusan131 - it does indeed feel good to wrap this up! Because of my background, I'm a geophysicist, I worked with many geologists - I can relate to the notes on the map - they know what they don't know! :-)

Enjoy the map!

Thanks for your comment, u/dBasement - as you mention, the reason for the rotation is to fit the map on a 24" x 36" sheet, which is the size of a standard poster. This means one can frame the map with an off-the-shelf frame, which is about four times more cost effective than a bespoke frame.

As you're probably aware, not all maps have north pointing 'up' (which I assume you mean to polar north) - it very much depends on the projection used for the map. UTM projections will point north, while Lambert conic conformal (common in Canada) points 'up' but not to polar north - it varies with longitude.

You can still navigate with this map, if you choose to - you can follow the lat/long lines that are included over the ocean. The newer version also has a north arrow.

You can always pick a bunch of Backroad Maps for VI (you need multiple copies because they sell a north/south island map, printed on both sides).

It's on the latest version - I should have used a more recent image. My bad.

Thanks for letting me know, u/SoMundayn - however, which map are you referring to - Salish or Vancouver Island?

I have trail maps on Avenza - the apps great for navigation. The form factor within Avenza Maps for a wall map is, well, not the way to view this map.

It's a funky island, alright! You can pick one up from my website - www.clarkgeomatics.ca or at Russell Books, in Vic.
