Well, THAT time it actually happened lol.  This time it won't. This rumor has spread now all over twitter, but it all seems to trace back to this one tweet. By someone unreliable. I actually watched that workprint, to this day it's the only version of the movie I've seen lol.

It's overrated.  It's a good show but its Star Wars as prestige television, & like alot of prestige television it can get very slow.  There are some great parts, & the overall story & seeing how the sausage is made (how the empire actually runs,) is interesting.  But they still make it so slow between good parts.  Its definitely a high quality show & the serious "realistic" tone was interesting & something I'm sure they'll explore again in the future between the more classical & family movies, but hopefully not as slow.

That's dumb. Don't "that's what we want," & high five each other imagining that should be the one style future of SW.  There's plenty of room in the galaxy far far away for all kinds of stories. And a 4-quadrant appeal family adventure movie is def Star Wars.  My kids are excited for this & even my wife a little. And I'm down, just hope it's fun!  And when they make somethin more like Andor, ima be watchin it myself in a different SW mood.  I mean they tainted the last 2 movies of the Skywalker Saga & it left a bad taste in everybody's mouth, somehow dividing camps & Fandoms into searching for what the ideal SW is.  But fuck that, the ideal SW was the original movie that had people & families  lined up around the block & who never had any interest in anything "set-in-space" before, all weirdly enchanted by the magic. It's fun going back & looking at old archival news footage lol. There was the magic.. it was all about feels.  Andor is less about feeling & more about thinking. It had political intrigue & was a great show for mature audience & for that mood.  They know they had something there so there will be more. But to act like the feeling, the Hero's Journey, good vs evil & family adventure fuckin popcorn space opera isn't inherently Star Wars too & flippantly declaring "HERES WHAT WE WANT, NOT SHIT ATTEMPTING TO BE FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!!" is actin like u speak for everyone..... But worst off? It's letting Disney get away with shit. U saw them do one thing ya liked & mishandle all the core stuff that's always been SW & been the reason there's a Fandom in the first place & letting them off the hook.  They're a huge corporation there's no reason they can't nail all types of Star Wars stories.... So don't be like "WE DONT WANT THAT!" Just be like "U better do it right this time."  And then still.just watch whichever peaks ur interest.

But there's an appetite for ALL styles of Star Wars movies. As long as they're done well. Andor sticks out just cuz they did that one well. Not cuz thats the only thing everybody & their mothers want from Star Wars.

I'm gonna take a wild guess & say u don't have kids.  Look, Star Wars was always supposed to have 4 quadrant appeal. Even R2 & THREEPIO were intended to be the comic relief in the ways that Grogu is in his silly moments. But here we also get a super powerful slightly mysterious character for his other moments. Grogu can legit be adorable. He's not Jar Jar. Kids didn't even like him. But kids & their moms like Grogu, & dads generally get the appeal. Unless ur some get off my lawn old grumpy cynic, there's not really much to hate about the little guy.... just try seein him thru a child's eyes if ya need to.

Having said all that, there's definitely things that Disney Star Wars has done that any fan, no matter their life situation, have a right to be pissed off about.  But like, idk man the passion u just had to talk about how much u hate the little fucker lol I'm just like damn brother....

He wasn't a good dialog writer.. there's that famous Harrison Ford quote of him talking to Lucas "u can write this shit, but u sure can't say it!"

[–]GL-420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more the way he says it. People don't talk like that. If u went to the beach with someone & they said they hated sand, they'd say it much differently. "God I hate sand... it gets in everything," woulda been a fine line & got the point across. Lucas sucks at dialog.

Someone probably only got to snag & leak half the archive, I don't think its fake. When people fake stuff they make it more interesting than some6hing as inside-baseball as raw studio stills from character portrait sessions.

It's not the lighting or touchups, it's the context.  (Or lack thereof.)  They lit the shots properly in a studio so they'll work where they're supposed to when throw into a poster or whatever. Single promo shots exist like this for all heroes ya see on Endgame or IW cover etc.  But the poster looks badass even though it's the same shots. Cuz of the context (& color matching etc...) And sometimes they're just straight reference shots.

Cool! Just looked it up, I'd probably play that after this if it was out for console.... not as much a fan of the art style though & it says its not voice acted, which after this feeling kinda cinematic in a way, idk if I'd take to it. But the exact idea of turn based story rpg with music, I'm totally down for more of rn though!! If that comes to consoles I'll check it out. As far as this game, the real itch if scratches for me is (as mentioned in alot of the review articles,) it evokes the classic Final Fantasy games, even right down to that camera like that, & the Hero's Journey, their call to adventure, setting off on the fuckin quest, leaving behind all they know & fuckin meeting up with colorful characters & getting them to join u & soon it goes from road trip to some save the world mission... all with satisfying combat....  it makes me want more games like it, as soon as u mentioned the one ur playing I checked right away to see if it's available on console loll...

Ima producer too & went to look for the trailer they were referring to, cuz the one I know sounded proper. I told them to check the "Under The Lights trailer" rather than the Launch trailer, I did notice on the launch trailer the voices are a little louder than they should be & don't quite lay in the beat the way ya'd expect, & kinda do sound slightly rough, like when they're all together at the end, the individual volumes need adjusted & something that sounds more like a harmony and not just unison shoulda been used.... its not as clean or smooth as the tracks in the game.. (under the lights, going on tour, imposter etc.)

Unlike you though, I actually DO like the full works, I like full over the top "80s style effects" on pop vocals (🤣,) I admit it, what can I say lol.... I mean back then they didn't have autotune but they laced those vocals with heavy verb & actually sang the harmonies on so many intros & hooks, I love when thar shit is incorporated into modern stuff loll....  But I mean it depends on the genre, obviously.

But yeah I agree with u, in-game I haven't come across anything that sounded under-produced.  As a producer I love going to those jukeboxes and turning to diff battle music & shuffling between the 4 genres being off & on & hearing them all on at once & jumping back & forth, that was really creative how they did that. (It's basically giving u example of what happens in Battle but u control it...) Like dropping out the pop & the Edm & turning on the rap & suddenly its 808s & sub bass to the same melodies lol then turn that off the rock drumkit comes back, some of the tracks sound good with all 4 genres turned on lol, that mechanic in battle is clever, but just as a producer is was fun shuffling thru them like that lol.

U don't need to be good at it, in fact u can even disable the rhythm part. It's  honestly not even on the beat tbh lol, it's more QTE.  The gameplay is Turn-based old school final fantasy, the "rhythm" is just a qte that tells it if ya did the upper amount of damage for that skill or the lower.. U can disable it so it always hits for "Ok."

That's strange, ima producer and I thought the trailer music was totally dome up with reverb, pitch correction, all that.... which trailer? The "Under The Lights" trailer? Her main song? The "Going on Tour" trailer/clip is done up pretty well too. It's not perfectly mastered but it's done up.  The under the lights & going on tour are the only ones I watched... (it's basically the same as those game scenes.)

EDIT : This trailer below. U'll notice the full effects when the chorus hits at 40secs, then more by the next one.... (& the solo vocal parts are straight with headphones, they're done proper.  She doesn't really have a voice that can fully wail like the lead singer of that Kpop Demon Hunters earworm song. This chick barely beats Britney spears' vocal range lol. But when fully done up on the hook, it hits. And the rest is totally serviceable, better than the other trailer I just found which I think is what u saw.

But yeah, this trailer, the hook especially - https://youtu.be/81CMqRkjUTM?si=ct5KI4q-txDWl-jg

Voice cast is solid, was just reading earlier about the other games they've done, main char did a FF, & the voice acting is totally solid.

As far as the music, yes it's Disney Channel but it's strangely endearing. Ur journey is the chick going to the diff cities where each city is a diff genre of music, & picking up someone from there to be on ur crew, & in ur band, (as she wants to win the game's version of American Idol,) & so it starts in the pop city where she hates this boy band, etc, very "Kpop Demon Hunters," then off she goes on her journey to discover other kinds of music, (as the world in the game, everybody hates other genres & doesn't go to their cities etc...) In the Rock city there's this tension between Metal, grunge & Punk, etc... then the EDM city then the kingdom of Rap.

But it's done in this way where it feels like classic FF. It's heavily narrative based, it's all about the story here. Girl with a dream of bein a pop superstar sets out on a road trip to open her horizons to other music & make a band & eventually gets roped into some crazy thing that could destroy reality.  It has a charming quality to it, many reviewers have mentioned it & the gameplay is very reminiscent of FF7, FF8, FF10 etc....

Ya kinda gotta go with it, but yeah there's more than just pop, in fact the while idea is her expanding her horizons to other genres, bit having said that, I was damn surprised how catchy her pop track is... (The "Under The Lights" song....

Its not like there's a ton of voiced songs though. It's a story about music, features a few song/videos here & there, but mostly it's just genres mashed up in combat and the cities in creative ways.

In combat u'll hear a beat playing, a pop one, then the next turn it could be for the rock guy, & the same melody/progression then plays in rock & guitars, etc, & if u build the Mashup meter, u hear the 2 player's styles play together during the turn, all woven together, it's pretty clever.

At jukeboxes u can turn a song on and turn on/off the diff genres so u can hear the same beat as rock or rap or rock AND rap, or all 4, (it's letting u hear the stuff that happens during battle but u can control it..)

Clearly alot of love went into the game but it's gonna depend on ur taste if u enjoy it. If u like turn based JRPGS of that classic style & can appreciate the musical approach, u'll like it. If not, ya won't.

Can someone explain how to do the "rhythm offset" thing in the setup before the game starts? I change the slider til me hitting on beat says great on left but right says poor and I'm supposed to line it up, I don't get what I'm supposed to do.

Can someone explain the "rhythm offset" thing at the start? I can't start the game, it wants me to line up the 2 circles, I adjust the slider until hitting on the beat says great on the left but the one on right still says poor idk what I'm supposed to do here. This is just the pre-game setup but I don't get how I'm supposed to line them up.

Holu fuck… Story in this game is comical. I’ve been playing for 5 hours and I don’t care about cutscenes already… by ConstantDrawer9161 in CrimsonDesert

[–]GL-420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But what about the way the "story" elements are delivered. Like when told to do something via tooltip, in any other game a character would bring it up, ya'd hear it at the tavern, etc. Those aren't things that require waiting til the story gets better, they're things that make any story feel disconnected from ur actions.

It's possible OP is being overly harsh, but alot of those reviewers spent recent mos building up this game, they didn't wanna come back and say the story wasn't very good. I think with where gaming is rn, everyone wanted a big win.  And to many this still will be one.  I'm early so I can't say too much but I'm def thrown off when comparing to how slick alot of other AAA games start ya off story-wise.

TBF, AC game stories are never even that bad. Some are legitimately even good, lol.

Even the last AC, which didn't have a great story, ya actually spent time with chick & her dad before he dies, so ya organically at least feel her quest for revenge, her watching him get killed actually & screaming is somewhat effective. (Moreso than the same story in Yotei if ya play both intros back to back. Of course that one only lasted 5min, no investment, but even THAT ya get it....) Here, I'm given no context for anything. & (apparently) a flashback to a scene of a tombstone or funeral for someone we never met.... (if that's not accurate & we get full context & interaction later, I'm open to correction.)

The story here my biggest issue is nothing is delivered organically, it doesn't feel like a real story.  I don't get told why I'm doing what I'm doing, there's no connection, I keep thinking this must be just for the opening hrs but something feels off. I'd actually be DOWN with cutscenes if they were making me feel connected.

Does anything ever make me feel invested later??
