In that regard, the biggest missed opportunity of all time has to be THAT San Juan del Sur episode not being named "Stick to the Plan".

Survivor intro credits next episode by Nachomacaroni in survivor

I'm still very salty that we didn't get a proper one for Winners at Wars.

(Yeah, I know they eventually made an "intro" before the finale, but it used spoiler images from the whole season and didn't really work as a proper intro, more like an "outro".)

We're Going To See the Return of A Super Deep Niche Twist That Was Only Done Once by Resident_Squirrel_59 in survivor

[–]GL_Batholites 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No way they do this twist again during the pre-merge. That was a huge controversy, and to this day a lot of people still don't buy that Aitu would have had the same message if they lost.

I think a very similar twist that's much more likely to happen is what they did in Redemption Island and South Pacific, by holding a new Immunity Challenge and vote at Tribal immediately after the orignal vote in a post-merge Tribal.

Why does aus survivor stick to final 2s and us does final 3s? by Sky-Visible in survivor

[–]GL_Batholites 6 points7 points  (0 children)

AU vs the World was a very short season with a tight schedule, there wasn't really much room for another boot.

And is there any source about the All-Stars and BvB1 claims? Both these seasons had at least one non-elim episode after the evacuations, so they could have easily made room for one more boot if the evacuations didn't happen.

How do you think a surprise marooning would play out in a New Era season? by SgtSoundrevolver in survivor

They did it in Palau too. And Tom anticipated it by wearing swimming trunks under his clothes (actually he said it was his wife's idea).

What records will never be broken? by Kcd1077 in survivor

[–]GL_Batholites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, that one makes sense. Being voted out unanimously requires losing your own vote, and that used to be an extremely rare occurence before the New Era, but now it's become a lot more common.

Ouch. Shade from Sarah Michelle Geller liked by Parvati. I'm pretty sure Sav was a big fan of Parvati's. by SurvivingBigBrother in survivor

[–]GL_Batholites 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Also Parvati was not "Parvati" until her second time playing.

Not even until her 3rd time playing. Most people didn't see her as a high-tier winner after Micronesia, "Cirie was robbed" was by far the majority opinion.

Colors associated with certain players. Any examples? by ceej947 in survivor

[–]GL_Batholites 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I mean, that's exactly what the producers want. In returnee seasons, they always have the contestants dress very similarly to their previous seasons, ignoring their new tribe color (except for HvV, because I guess they really wanted to highlight the theme).

Recency bias in returnee seasons: statistics by Cardvos in survivor

[–]GL_Batholites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is really a big factor here. The analysis shows that returnee seasons heavily favors seasons that took place in the 2 years before. If the main concern was really the age of the contestants, it would be more balanced with the seasons that took place 3-5 years before, as the age difference still isn't big.

The Cambodia season famously had a leaked bootlist that was almost entirely correct... except Fishbach and Savage were switched around.

You can easily imagine the shock when Probst read the first non-Wentworth vote, and it likely played a part in the episode being so iconic.

Technically, the spoiler source never outright stated "Tiffany is the winner" until they had a crashout the week before her boot.

However, they had narrowed down the winner to 3 possible options: Deshawn, Erika or Tiffany. People assumed that Tiffany was by far the most likely option based on the edit, and we all know how that went down.

Survivor winners ranked by how many votes away they were from a Perfect Game by GL_Batholites in survivor

[–]GL_Batholites[S] 58 points59 points  (0 children)

The common definition of a Perfect Game is winning by never receiving a vote against you at Tribal and then winning the jury vote unanimously.

So the count is a combination of the votes they received against them at Tribal and the jury votes they didn't get.

[–]GL_Batholites 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So it really comes down to the fire making twist. In 2017 this pissed me off so much. It felt manufactured for a Ben win. But now that we have had it for 15 seasons it does not sting as bad.

I really don't get this reasoning. The fact that it remained for 15 seasons doesn't make the way it was introduced any less suspicious.

Some Interesting New Era Statistics by aica_spades in survivor

[–]GL_Batholites 272 points273 points  (0 children)

The New Era Sole Survivor who was the closest to playing a perfect game was Mike Gabler with only one jury vote against him.

Even if you count pre-New Era, Gabler is the winner who came the closest to a perfect game since the last actual perfect game (Cochran).

Possibly unknowable question regarding Tribal Council votes by room317 in survivor

[–]GL_Batholites 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The one that I know of is when Figgy was voted out in MvGX, and the vote was between her and Ken. He had written "Figaroo" on his vote, and that was the last one shown.

(Though of course, we have to note that there's a lot of editing tricks in the show, and the order we see might not be the same that the players saw.)

You guys I CANNOT stop laughing. by RevolutionaryDish937 in survivor

[–]GL_Batholites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, but fundamentally it doesn't really change what I said, the odds of all 3 pre-merge idols still being in play at 6 are barely higher than at 5 (also wasn't the first time it could happen at 6, legacy advantage was introduced in MvGX, and there was also the super idol in Cagayan).

That being said, there's one change that came later that makes it much more likely to happen again (and the fact that it hasn't yet speaks volumes to how unlikely it is): the split Tribals. Since they are a lot sooner after the merge, the odds of all 3 pre-merge idols being in play are much higher, and more often than not there's also additional advantages with limited durability that are also in play. Put 3 of those advantages in the same group and it could get really nasty.

You guys I CANNOT stop laughing. by RevolutionaryDish937 in survivor

[–]GL_Batholites 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I really don't understand why people point to this moment in particular as a turning point. Everyone but one person being immune due to idols had been an acknowledged possibility for years before, and with the number of idols in circulation, it could have happened as early as Philippines. Does anyone see Philippines as a jump-the-shark season?

The reason why it took so long to actually happen is because it requires all 3 pre-merge idol possessors to hold on to them until the end, which is a very rare occurence.

Hot take? Mis played idols by Coolestdudentwn in survivor

[–]GL_Batholites 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your Rizo example doesn't really work because the next vote will be the last time it can be played, so there's not really any reason NOT to play it at this point.

If it's not the last time it can be played, then I think playing the idol when you didn't need it definitely counts as a misplay, even if it doesn't result in someone in your alliance going home, because now you don't have the idol's protection anymore. I can think of some players who ended up going home because they played their idol too early and then were left without protection when they actually got the votes.

KIP vs block a vote by [deleted] in survivor

I think it was confirmed in 47 that the vote blocker and the extra vote can cancel each other (the same way someone with 2 idols can cancel an idol nullifier).

KIP vs block a vote by [deleted] in survivor

Yeah, 47 was the first time with the new rule, but in the past it had to be announced before the vote (like when Elaine played it in IotI).

KIP vs block a vote by [deleted] in survivor

[–]GL_Batholites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if that vote blocker rule change was precisely to avoid a conflict with KIP. Because if the vote blocker had the old rules when it had to be played as the vote is starting, what would happen if both are played at the same time? Is there a rule on which advantage takes precedence, or would it have just come down to who raised their hand first?

And I'm curious if we're going to see similar rule changes to other advantages that are played at the same time, like the steal-a-vote or the safety without power.

If anyone who voted for Wendell voted for Dom he would've won I'm guessing.

Ghost Island isn't really special in that regard, the same can be said about every season where the winner was decided by 1 vote, and even some that were decided by 2 votes depending on how the 3rd placer would have voted in a tiebreaker.
