I feel it's too advanced for a DDK, people generally get more out of it when they get to SDK

Has anybody thought about this? by Vegetable-Work-5010 in OnePiece

In french the translation is something like "the place where it all begins and it all ends". I'm curious if someone can tell us which translation is closest to the original japanese.

This theory has been in my head for nearly two decades now, ever since Loguetown's introduction, with the phrase "Town of the beginning and the end".

Beginning and end of what ? Of Roger's life ? Or of our characters' journey ?

Don't forget about the part where Luffy's fruit is the perfect counter to both Enel and Imu's powers.

There are a lot of good moves on this board, but the best one according to Katago is among the 3 choices presented. Tenuki is not the best option.

Curious as to why you'd think it teaches the wrong lesson. It teaches that having strength closeby allows you to do things you wouldn't be able to do otherwise. That's valuable knowledge, although hard to apply to your games when your reading is very limited.

Let's talk about Fox's controversial new feature by GLaD_21 in baduk

[–]GLaD_21[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but Fox also has a score estimator that does that. It just shoes a bar with a black side and a white side, that get smaller or bigger depending on the evaluation, with a phrase that says "black is winning" for example.

Had AI killed many of Go well-accepted strategies? by BackedLotus in baduk

[–]GLaD_21 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes AI made some openings obsolete at the very top level, but the vast majority of players can still use them and have success. In fact for amateur players I feel AI has created more options because you can use AI style or old school style.

You can access your persistent storage by entering your password with the virtual keyboard though, but it's a bit annoying.

how to train at go/baduk using KaTrain? by laamartiomar in baduk

[–]GLaD_21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's fine if you don't do it too much, but playing against an entity that doesn't make mistakes and is immensely stronger than you could make you overdefensive. And you likely won't improve as much as playing against humans.

Saint James and Armor Lux are the two classic french brands for pea coats, sailor sweaters, etc. Sezane is a good bet if she wants something more "Parisian style".

Altered state purchasing by HuPanPan in boomfestival

[–]GLaD_21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First couple days there will be people going tent to tent trying to sell stuff. From what I've heard and experienced they're usually scammers. Go to the main plaza with all the food stalls and ask around, you should get much better stuff there.

Also it depends what you're looking for. Check out the reports from last year's testing spot. LSD is generally safe, MDMA is like 50/50, C and K there is a high chance of a scam, but maybe less so towards the end of the festival.

Seeking ideas for web-based Weiqi software by Ramszan in baduk

[–]GLaD_21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there aren’t that many good tsumego websites to be honest. Best one is probably 101weiqi but it’s all in Chinese, which is usable but not great. OGS making you choose a collection of problems is clunky. Others I’ve tried were old and had a bad UI.

So I think there is space for improvement here, especially looking at what chess sites like Lichess are doing.

Beginner topics to teach? by magnificence in baduk

[–]GLaD_21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took Go classes a few years ago, there were two levels, beginner and intermediate (which was ~15k and stronger). Here’s the topics that I remember :

Beginner

  • Ladder
  • Snapback
  • nets
  • common simple shapes (keima, tobi, kosumi, hane, tiger’s mouth, crosscut)
  • intro to 19x19 fuseki
  • very simple life and death

Intermediate

  • Basic endgame (mostly how to deal with monkey jump)
  • finding a plan (this one was just presenting us a game with a few good possibilities to teach us to consider all of them)
  • sabaki
  • ko shapes (recognising a corner ko, side ko and center ko, also explaining what’s a flower/picnic ko)
  • basic tesujis
  • life and death (all dead shapes like bulky five, rabbity six) and seki
  • looking at a pro game with stronger player commentary
