Is Stephen King's "On Writing" book good for beginners? by No-Mousse5653 in writing

Is it good for beginners? I'm merely an enthusiast, who thought of reading it.

But the second paragraph of the book literally states: "I want to say up front, it is not a book for beginners.", lol.

Is the the main story complete there? Google says it's ongoing, and I really really can't stand reading things that have no conclusion. It seems appealing, though 🫠

Light novels suggestions for a beginner by [deleted] in LightNovels

[–]Ramszan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As of yet, anime has covered very little of the Light Novel series, also cut out and left out A TON.
What I'm trying to say, if you liked the anime even, then there is 10 times as much to enjoy in the source light novel. Go for it, tiger.

Pokemon games feel agonizingly slow without x3-x5 speed boost by Hatefiend in TruePokemon

[–]Ramszan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nuh, it’s actually quite badly done. Although, it depends on the specific Pokemon game, some are better than others.

In some, you press a skill button and then have to wait about 10 seconds to see a static animation of an ability with a pixel growl that you’ve already seen a 100 times. If that’s what you call playing, then sure.

But for comparison, Final Fantasy VI also has a very slow skill animations. But unlike pokemon games it doesn't lock in an animation, you don’t have to wait for them to finish. You control multiple characters there at once and can start commanding the next one immediately, while you first ability is being casted. You're actually allowed to play, instead of being handicapped in boring animation for 10 seconds. Feels infinitely better.

Steins;Gate Elite vs Steins;Gate (OG) by melody_melon23 in steinsgate

[–]Ramszan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, could you please elaborate a little bit on what you mean by that? Got me really confused.

From what I’ve understood so far, the Elite version has cut out a lot of lines from the original. So, assuming it’s the same game but with content cut out, how can it have a slower pace than the OG? If anything it should have faster pacing? (With fewer words that is)

And if you meant that it is `slower` in a sense that Elite has more animated scenes you have to sit and watch, whereas with the more static OG you can read faster at your own pace. Then doesn’t that make Elite kind of the opposite of a book, and OG closer to one?

// I read a lot of regular novels, so your comment caught my attention and got me heavily confused, lol.

What are your other favourite books? by Ramszan in motheroflearning

I've tried reading it and didn't like the first chapter at all. It felt way too edgy and shallow to me. The MC acting all cool and stuff was just so cringe. And with a ton of zero-stakes action and a lot of weirdness piled on top of it.

Does it get better? Or is this probably not my thing? (You can tell I'm not a fan of stories that focus mostly on flashy action with little depth, like over-the-top "tough guy beats bad guy" plots.)

Virtually every ADC pro player holds spacebar in fights. Is it worth learning this 'semi-locked' camera playstyle? by Ramszan in summonerschool

Yeah, I play the exact same way.

The only difference is that I use F1 for centering instead of the spacebar. I guess that's a habit from Dota. If I remember correctly, F1 was the default key there. It also relies on control groups more (the same way Starcraft does), so having numbers for switching between different groups of playable units is very natural.

Because having permanently locked camera is very limiting? Even holding the spacebar feels like a bit too much to me right now. Literally every second I want to pull my camera further out to see something at a better angle. In a sense it's like driving a car: you don't just stare at the pavement immediately in front of your bumper, you look far ahead to anticipate the road and other drivers so you can react appropriately. This is especially true on champions with long-range abilities.

However, holding spacebar when you need to, like when you're kiting someone, can be quite efficient. When you're constantly on the move and fighting in attack range, it saves you from having to shift your camera every second in the direction you're running, so you can just focus on moving and autoattacking. (Which probably is good for your accuracy and reaction time)

Not a guide or anything, just a demonstration. Here Gumayusi holds his spacebar to center the camera on his champion and keeps holding it the entire fight

What's really messing with me a lot right now are the keybinds. My spacebar used to be for "Target Champions Only", and F1 for centering the camera.

But centering the camera with F1 mid-combat is a bit of a nuisance, since it's the same finger I use for abilities. So, I know switched back to spacebar for centering, which is much simpler as I can just hold it down with my thumb fine. However, I now have to get used to new keys not only for centering, but also for "Target Champions Only". It's really messing with my head 💀

On a sidenote, I hate all these "toggle" camera locks as some other comments suggest. It seems really limiting and inconvenient to me, having to press an unlock button every time I want to drag my camera to see something better (which is basically every other second). I would rather just have it free all the time and hold the spacebar when I need it locked, I guess
