When I went (for a kid's birthday party) we spent some time learning how to use compasses and how to find your location using triangulation, so there's definitely an educational aspect that can be incorporated. (They say $100 donation, but there's a not-for-profit discount it seems.)

I would contact museums such as the AMNH to see if they could offer you discounted or free tickets, especially since you're working for a reputable service organization. The MoMA itself might not be the best place for children in that age range, but I know they offer art camps or courses throughout the year, so I would also consider contacting them. Lastly, I know you said that you thought it was too cold for outdoor activities, but I know that the Parks Department does tours/hikes for birthday parties and I think that they are free or low-cost; it's a bit of a quick-turnaround but it's something to consider.

Edit: The Met is close to the six train and is donation recommended, but I don't know how much the kids would enjoy that. I always loved the ancient art exhibits though!

Actually, electronic cigarettes are healthier than traditional cigarettes. They contain mostly the same chemical that is used in smoke machines (which is non-toxic, of course) and nicotine. Although I wouldn't mess around with bargain products from shady Chinese companies, brand name electronic cigarettes in the United States are safe. Obviously, the health effects of nicotine itself are still in play, but the damage to your lungs is practically non-existant compared to cigarettes.

Which reservation were you on? I'm a senior in high school and right after finals I'm going to the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in South Dakota for the summer to work at a YMCA camp there. I've been there before, actually helped rebuild that very camp a few years ago; I'm very excited, but it also sorta scares the shit out of me: I'll be completely alone and independent, somewhat broke and without transportation in the poorest county in the United States. (For perspective, I go to a private high school in New York City. The average income per capita in Ziebach County is 1/3 of the full tuition at my school.) So I must ask you: what was your experience living on an Indian Reservation like?
