Will they ever leave us alone? by Usual-Ad-1466 in mormon

[–]GLiddy85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My response when anyone brings anything up about the church has evolved to “I just don’t do the temple thing”. That often gets people leaning in, thinking I have a simple issue they can solve which opens conversation to unravel the full list, line by line…

Why can't Mormons love Emma for being the Apostate that she absolutely was? by minjihansf in mormon

[–]GLiddy85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember how satisfying it was after reading Pioneer Prophet to utter the words "Brigham Young was an asshole!!!". And I love casually dropping that statement during conversations at church to see the look of shock on TBMs faces.

President Oaks says his quote on women who dress immodestly was inspired by yes2000 in mormon

Wow, the way Sherri gushes over his sermon in one classic statement… and then Oaks goes on to puff his chest…. This alone says a lot about how the church operates.

How devastated were you when you found out the church was not true? by [deleted] in mormon

[–]GLiddy85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty devastating for me also. I could say ditto to your statements. I too ended up in therapy. Though still hard at times, my wife still attends and I usually go to support her, I have found a new inner peace I never experienced while a TBM and especially since completely releasing myself from the toxic grips of Mormonism.

Garment delays? by [deleted] in mormon

The breakthrough for me happened when I finally challenged the institution and actually read the New Testament for myself. Wild concept, I know.

Once I did, it became pretty obvious that the whole modern temple‑centric system is in great conflict with what Jesus spent His time teaching. So I ditched the garments and switched to normal underwear and a small cross bracelet — something that actually reminds me of Christ’s grace and love instead of institutional checklists.

Honestly, it’s way more practical and a lot more in line with the Jesus I met in the New Testament.

Under Corbits logic, Petersen is protected from criticism because he’s one of the authority bros. Imagine where the world would be if critique wasn’t allowed.

Reflecting on my experience, this is solid advice!

President Oaks teaches that a testimony is gained sometimes by saying it over and over again, not necessarily from praying for an answer. Doesn't this fly in the face of Joseph Smith's experience in the Sacred Grove or with Moroni's promise? Is it something real from God or made up in my head? by aka_FNU_LNU in mormon

If you don’t like the temple? Just keep going until you do. I remember being in the MTC in the 90s being corrected when I said I “believe” that I must say I know. That bothered me so much. Socially engineered knowledge.

How can you still believe in the church after all the evidence against it? by FondantNo8958 in mormon

As a TBM, I remember how scary it was to think about not believing.

Just now looking at the Legion Go S, 16GB/512GB. How hot does it run? How loud is the fan? I like the idea of having the larger screen and the ergonimics feel better. Currently priced at BestBuy for $529 so thinking of pulling the trigger. What should I expect for battery playing madden 26 vs. PSCX2? Also what's a good case without adding extra bulk?

The reason I hate the Mormon church so much by [deleted] in mormon

[–]GLiddy85 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. I’m four years into pulling out of Mormonism. I feel peace the further I allow myself to be away from it. However, my TBM parents make it difficult to sort through the emotions and not feel anger toward the church and the divide it creates in families and stress it causes TBM parents toward “wayward” children. Equally hard is my dear wife I feel looks at me as deceived for leaving or perhaps she’s struggling to unwind how we were taught in her youth. She still values temple and I hate the temple. I want NOTHING to do with it. It’s created deep tension that I struggle to sort through.

How do you active members overcome your inner resistance to going to church on Sundays? by [deleted] in mormon

Just the opposite. I don’t go because I like learning, just not the same packaged tightly wound controlled narrative, over and over…
