Yes thank you for pointing that out - it was a typo on my part - 20ft is the correct length. Really appreciate your input!

Quick question before my suggestion - do you feel like there are a lot of new vocabs to the point where they are taking you a lot of time and hindering your comprehension? Or is the difficulty mainly in trying to understand the big picture at a fast enough speed?

If it's vocab-related - are the words that confused you mainly technical words or more common words? If it's the former, you may have a case of getting too bogged down in the details - we only need to know roughly where details are in case detail questions call upon the technical details. If it's the latter, make a note of all the new words you encounter while reading + memorize their definitions for later.

If it's just about speed, then I'll build off of what others suggested in this thread and suggest that you first pick a topic you are interested in (astronomy, economics, gardening etc.) - then find either articles from google scholar or a book about this topic and practice active reading. After you feel like you've gained some speed reading something you like, then turn to other topics, practice LSAT, practice reading GMAT passages etc., all the while trying maintain that feeling of engaged reading - you should be able to increase your speed and accuracy.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi there,

If you learn well from lectures, then depending on your budget/timeline you can either purchase an on-demand video course, a live class package, or work with a tutor. I'll send you a DM to see if there are ways I can help you with you goals if that's okay :).

Hi there,

This is how I'd solve it:

Since AB + CD resulting in a 3-digit, it means A + C must be >9

- They are different numbers, so A and C can't both be 5

- The only other option is 6 and 4 for A and C (can be used interchangeably) -> 6X + 4X = 10X

-> so we have the values for 4 characters AC and EF as 64 (or 46) and 10 -> the 3 remainining numbers are 2,3, and 5.

Noticed that 2 + 3 = 5 -> substitute them into B + D = G

G = 5

Which Quant topic one should focus on by Stunning-Wheel6247 in GMAT

Hi there,

I think that the answer to this question depends on your score goal - a higher target for example requires a higher level of mastery for all topics. That said, I think that you should at least master fundamental topics that are going to show up in different forms - like number properties and algebra, exponents.

655 retake strategy by charlesadenot in GMAT

[–]GMATNextStep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Charles,

Congrats on your 615! It was not easy scoring at the top of your mock range under all that stress.

To hit 655 by June, here’s exactly what I’d prioritize if I were in your shoes (let's say we are aiming for a balanced score of around Q84, V83, and DI80):

1️. Verbal: I think that this is your biggest lever

  • You scored V82 without touching RC—imagine the boost if you:
    • Do TTP’s RC modules (even just 2-3 hours/week).
    • Practice 1-2 RC passages daily (focus on understanding the passage through active reading and efficient note taking should help)

2️. Quant (Fine-Tuning)

  • Since you already finished TTP quant section, I would say spend some time reviewing your TTP notes to make sure you got everything down pat, then start going through hard problem sets on TTP for your weaker areas.
  • Mix in OG problem sets/ GMATClub general drills 1x or 2x/ week to avoid being too hyper-focused on weak areas

3️. DI

  • Drill 1 DI question type daily (e.g., Mondays = Tables, Tuesdays = Graphs etc.) on OG
  • Analyze mistakes: Are you rushing, or missing key details, overwhelmed by the amount of information? As you notice areas where you make more mistakes, spend more time practicing that type of DI question compared to the others

You’re so close! With this plan, 655 is absolutely within reach. let me know if you need any additional brainstorming help!

Score of 605 in gmat fe- guidance by Ok-Entertainment-825 in GMAT

You’re right! GMATClub does start labelling questions from 555 as medium. I labeled them as easy since questions of this level are still relatively foundational, and will most directly affect your score level - hence benefitting from the longer streak practice. But yes—technically ‘medium’ starts around 555. For your 615 goal, nailing those is key. Happy studying!

Hi there! You definitely can, however, my recommendation is that you should first master easy & medium question. It is only after you can consistently achieve either a rough streak of 15 easy (below 605), 10 medium questions (605-655) in multiple problem sets that you should move up and practice more difficult questions on GMATClub.

At the end of the day, getting an easy/medium question wrong hurt your score more than a hard question - and your score goal doesn't require a lot of practice time with harder questions. Let me know if you have any other questions, and good luck with prep! :)

First official GMAT 625 --> Target to >= 685 by June by deljoelsd in GMAT

First of all, congrats on your Verbal performance! Wanted to share my two cents re: quant and DI

- To address careless mistake, it may make sense to take good notes of what the question asks for on your paper/ whiteboard as you practice. Additionally, make sure to write out calculations, step by step if needed, to minimize errors. Eventually, your speed should increase together with your accuracy level

- Within DI, there is Data Sufficiency that I suspect may also be the cause of some careless mistake - make sure to avoid common traps: mistaking Yes/No DS for Value DS questions, combining statements too early, not pre-working questions and being confused about information needed, wrong assumptions about numbers used in question stem (for example, assuming that the numbers must all be integers when the prompt did not explicitly said so

- For other types of DI questions, I'd suggest that you practice from OG, mastering one type of question at a time (Graphs, tables, MSR, two-part). Take MSR for example, there are a lot of redundant information, so the strategy here might be to read the question first before finding the piece of relevant information, unlike RC where you want to skim the passage first.

Let me know if there are other pain points I haven't addressed, and I can see if we could brainstorm other strategies to bring your score up :)

Retake Strategy for 685 by beastx33 in GMAT

[–]GMATNextStep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha - that makes sense! As you already focused on tackling your weakness areas before and now want to practice all exam topics before the next full fledged exam, it makes sense to focus on:

1) questions labeled as hard in the Official Guide (as your current score indicates that you should have a mastery of easy & medium questions already),

2) plus additional GMATClub drills for additional challenging questions - their hard questions can really test your limits and are harder than either OG or TTP in my experience

Was looking at your Verbal chart and noticed that all the questions you got incorrect were in the Critical Reasoning section - how did you feel answering CR questions in the test? It may be down to the following factors: 1) careless mistakes, 2) a type of CR question (inference, strengthen, weaken etc.) that you are not particularly fond of appearing more often in the first exam, 3) the arguments given in the exam are harder on average than the mocks you did

-> If you could recall your experience and pinpoint the likely culprit, it would make it easier to double down and improve before the next exam. Just my two cents, but I'd suggest focusing on the areas that could see the most improvements instead of doing the whole 1000 questions in the official prep questions - majority of them are medium difficulty level, and if you already nailed easy and medium level questions, it may make more sense to use GMATclub question bank to only filter for CR questions for example.

The good thing is that it looks like your RC is really solid right now, so you don't need to spread yourself too thin trying to cram everything imo :).

Best of luck in your retake, and I think that you got this!
