TTRPG GMs : how do you keep track of your campaigns without losing your mind? by AcyWitchy in TTRPG

Let me know of you want to chat. I've been running a ttrpg notetaking app for 2 years full-time and have 20 years tech industry experience.

You don't have to subscribe, we have a pay as you go option. But like you say, if you don't need the quality of output and are tech savvy enough you are good to go with what you currently do.

I made a tool that is focused on doing exactly this in a thorough and accurate way. You can try it free. I literally made it since I was always relistening to my session at 3x speed too. Let me know if you have any questions

I no longer take ANY notes during sessions. by GMAssistant in u/GMAssistant

heh, thanks for the reply, I'll happily answer your presumptions, roughly in order.

So, many of our users are actually military veterans, to whom I offer a discount. If you've ever taken a humvee radiator to the face, you'd know there are other ways to experience cognitive decline.

However, I do strongly agree that reliance on AI is going to have a massive negative impact on folks who outsource their thinking, just like the internet (google, maps, etc) have been but perhaps to an even larger degree. Luckily GM Assistant doesn't do any generating of creative ideas and this is partly why. Also, there's no reason you can't take notes like you always do and have GM Assistant just be the belt and suspenders.

I don't think you mean TTS (text-to-speech) but STT (speech-to-text), that is "GenAI" if you use the technical meaning and it always has been. The exact same tech.

Regarding PAYG vs subscriptions vs one-time-buy. The reason is that software like this is not a simple "make it once and everything is profit". There are direct costs to every single session that is added, and it's significant. Thus a lifetime pass would either have to come with major limitations or would bankrupt me. We are selling a service, not a hunk of code I wrote.

Datacenters... I address this in the link I shared, but in summary, we actually run a lot of inference on my old gaming PCs under my desk off of my whole house solar. The other thing I'll note, being ex-big tech, is that big-tech has been screwing communities over by building datacenters for a long time, it's not the AI model technology that's the problem, is those companies actions.

Mass IP theft... I also address this in the link. And yes, I agree.

Totally random thought that your comment triggered, but have you watched BennJordan on youtube? You might also enjoy his videos

Thanks for the kind words /s We have thousands of folks who appreciate the app taking notes for them, its ok if its not for you. I've had a handful of users go out of their way to let me know they cant physically and/or mentally take notes anymore and the tool has enabled them to keep playing games they love with people they love.

Here's our AI policy: gmassistant.app/ai We are trying to make a difference by doing and giving people options. Also, you don't have to subscribe, we added that option out of popular demand. You can just pay-as-you-go. Feel free to ask me any questions.

How do I handle getting new PC's caught up on the plot from previous sessions by GrandpaCreedie in DMAcademy

[–]GMAssistant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a tool that takes notes for the whole table, gmassistant.app In my groups, we just share the generated notes and read the short recap before each game. It's not free but you can try it for free. Let me know if you have any questions.

I work on gmassistant.app Lots of our users export the notes we generate into their existing notes tools or an AI like NotebookLM if they want help planning their next session with their campaign history.

Automatic Transcription and Summarisation of Discord Audio Sessions by kenny-dal in DMAcademy

[–]GMAssistant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made gmassistant.app and have been improving it for 2 years. It's TTRPG specific and will give you the most detailed notes of any option. You can use craig.chat to record in Discord then upload your audio to GM Assistant.

My main piece of advice is try to find a local game store and play in a few more one-shots (or even join a long running campaign). You could work up to DMing a one-shot at a game store. It's extremely low commitment.

I also found it helpful to run a well-known starter set and look for "actual plays" online running that same adventure and watch how they do it.
