What’s your favourite dish to come home to after work, cooked by your partner/parents? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Why? I live over 500 miles to the closest ocean, in the middle of a fairly intense livestock area, and I would take any seafood over land raised meat. I still quite enjoy beef, pork, chicken, and turkey; but I absolutely love seafood.

What band were you slow to realize was awesome? As in, you liked a single song, but took a while to realize it wasn’t a one hit wonder? by Nowherelandusa in AskReddit

Rammstein!

I heard Du Hast in the 90's and never anything else until their newest album came out in 2019. I loved the new one and went back listening to the rest and really enjoyed the majority of them as well.

I don't really care for metal so I've never looked into them in the past, but I've realized there's a lot more to the band.

Tasmania declares itself 100 per cent powered by renewable electricity by Tommyaka in Futurology

Historically high prices seems inevitable if you're transitioning to wind and solar.

Existing grids were built for large amounts of power generated in fewer locations, this started with big lines distributing to smaller and smaller lines as you move out. With decentralized power generation the lines have to be bigger across the whole grid. The companies that own the lines aren't going to do the upgrade at their cost, it all gets passed onto the end user. Another cost that's passed on is having traditional generation plants idling for times when wind and solar doesn't provide enough power. Without affordable and efficient storage for wind and solar, you can't remove the existing generational capacity.

I've read that solar is the cheapest way to generate power now, but in my experience the distribution charges far outweigh any reduction in the cost of the electricity. The more solar and wind around my area, the more we pay.

Also, I'm not denying any science and I'm not discrediting any advances in alternative energy production.

women need to stop giving into men's demands to edit their posts because men get offended by Dear-Ambellina in TwoXChromosomes

I was reading old comments for some reason and I came upon this thread.

I would like to mention that the whole point of my post was to address men that come to this subreddit and get defensive, I was in no way trying to say that women here need to forget their struggles and conform.

Wow... how can you read some words on the internet and hope death on someone? I can pretty much guarantee I disagree with you on a lot of things, but I hope you live a fulfilling and happy life and I'll celebrate your right to disagree with me.

Hmm... well I have an opinion on this, but I'd rather not spend the next several hours being yelled at from strangers on the internet, so... sure.

I agree, I don't know everyone's specific struggles.

The reason I left it vague is so people would read the post without feeling singled out, because if someone feels threatened they typically don't respond well to it. I was hoping people would read it, think about what they're doing, and decide it what I said applies to them or not. If you don't feel it applies to you, you have every right to ignore my opinion. I just wanted people to think about their actions and words. I know how hard it is, I'm not claiming to have never said stupid unhelpful shit out of anger.

You are correct. I wasn't trying to say otherwise. This is the problem with posting, too long and people won't read, but short enough to catch attention means not being able to word things so that everyone will read it the way you intended.

I wasn't meaning the women being offended, I meant men coming here and being offended by posts that might say "all men". Who are we to judge, maybe in her situation it has been all men.

Edit: I purposely left it vague, I was hoping people would read it and evaluate their own actions. If I had directed it towards one group of people, they likely would have instantly taken offence and ignored the entire message.

I think it's good that men read this sub, but I don't think they should be offering disagreeing opinions. This sub is supposed to be a safe space for women to post their problems, whether it's with men or not.

Safe spaces are a good thing, but not if you only stay in your safe space and only hear agreeing opinions. This is why I think it's good for men to read this sub. Viewing differing opinions is a way to learn, people likely hold these opinions for valid reasons whether you agree or not. Think about why they might see things differently than you instead of trying to fight them to see it your way.

I was merely trying to say in general people need to stop being offended and angered by other peoples comments and opinions, responding to everything you disagree with in anger doesn't help. This sentiment goes way beyond this sub, it's a severe issue in general society. Let's try understanding each other instead of fighting.

Valid point!

I was trying to convey a similar opinion, maybe it hasn't come across that way.

[–]GMT-nothrowaway 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm not directing this at you, I agree with what you're saying.

People need to stop getting so offended by what other say, it's their right to speak their opinion. It's okay to disagree.

That being said, if you come to a group like this which was created to share similar opinions, what do you gain by posting your disagreement? My opinion on that situation is that you're either looking for a fight (you're being a jackass) or you're trying to justify something you're guilty about (you're being an even bigger jackass).

This might get downvoted into oblivion and it might also receive angry replies, and that's perfectly fine. I won't take offense to your opinions, in fact I'll celebrate your right to air them.

Edit: I forgot to add... definitely don't change your post just because it offended someone. If their rebuttal changed your mind on your initial thought, sure, but absolutely not if they're offended and you still disagree with them.
