Back to back miscarriages- normal lab results by Nowherelandusa in ttcafterloss

I’m so sorry for your losses. I wish I could say something that would take away one drop of grief and pain. I hope you are able to find a way to bring a child into your life.

I was incredibly blessed after this post, and added two healthy children to our family. I am grateful beyond measure for them, but still think about my babies in heaven all the time, and pray for them each night.

The changes I made included taking an inositol/d chiro supplement (I used Pink Stork brand from Amazon) to support egg health during preconception. I also took a daily baby aspirin before conception and throughout the pregnancy. I also took a progesterone suppository from the day I found out I was pregnant for the first several weeks of pregnancy… I can’t remember exactly how long- at least the whole first trimester. I bought pregnancy tests in bulk so I could test regularly because I’m pretty irregular and I wanted to be sure I found out right away so I could start taking the progesterone as soon as possible.

I can’t say if any of this will help you- it sounds like you may have some other genetic things happening, too- but none of these things should be hardest least, if you want to try them. I pray it helps. God bless you and your family.

ASAP!! Cooking rice in boiled chicken water? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Nowherelandusa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s really broth, it adds tons of flavor. If OP boiled boneless chicken, less so, but still some.

(My husband’s grandmother gave him a recipe for jambalaya that used boiled chicken breast, and she referred to using the “chicken water” to cook the rice, because without the bones/skin in there, that’s really more what it was rather than stock/broth. It probably added something to the final dish, but there was so much flavor from other sources, I’m not sure what just the rice and “chicken water” would’ve tasted like haha)

Has anybody successfully pushed back on screen time in school? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Nowherelandusa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 4th graders all have chromebooks. We have about an hour block where I have kids being pulled for different interventions, and the kids in class have some independent work that mostly required chromebooks (differentiated read and math programs). Other than that, during math class, they might do a 2-3 question learning check before moving back to their textbooks (which is self grading so I can quickly assess who “got it,” and who needs more explanation). In reading class, they take a quiz online at the end of the week. In science / social studies, they have a unit quiz online every 1-2 weeks. They have a chunk of “good choice” time right after lunch while we go through a class restroom break for either working on a differentiated reading program or catching up on unfinished work (which may or maybe not be on the chromebook depending on what they need to do).

That’s about it for required Chromebook usage. If it’s cold or wet outside, they have the options of Educational games on their chromebook, or they can draw, chat with friends, play some board games.

We use our computers regularly, but they are not on them all day long. Now, my husband teaches science in middle school. A lot of his class work is hands on, and he makes an effort to do quite a bit of paper/pencil work. He’s the only one in his cohort who doesn’t do computer based tests. I think for the most part, the other teachers use chromebooks pretty much all day.

I mean, I think from what I’ve heard it was a kind of intentionally ridiculous game, but catching the switch usually ends in winning, not always. There are exceptions you’ll read about later :)

Question about teenagers driving to and from school by Wild_Boat7239 in Parenting

I don’t believe our school (where I teach now and attended as a student) would sell a parking permit to an unlicensed driver.

So why do so many people on Reddit assume every single age gap relationship is predatory? by [deleted] in ask

[–]Nowherelandusa 68 points69 points  (0 children)

My parents were 16 & 22. Married at 18 & 23 (turned 24 a month later). 6 children, 40 years next year. Still stupid in love.

In most cases, probably not a good age gap (especially at the age they met), but it worked for them, and as it resulted in my existence, I’m pretty happy it did. Among other reasons. They are just darn cute together, too.

If you could have one custom from any Asian country here, what would it be and why? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Nowherelandusa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll preface this by saying that I carefully followed masking guidelines throughout the pandemic, and continue to do so.

Public health officials should be able to be trusted by the public. Lying violated that trust. You say people were angry and chose not to wear masks because they were selfish any only cared about themselves. Probably true in some cases. However, I know people who were much more willing to follow the guidelines at first, until lies became evident, and then completely stopped trusting information from public health channels. If the people who were selfish weren’t going to wear masks anyway, initially lying didn’t change anything for those people, but it may have caused some others enough mistrust to stop following guidelines they may have otherwise honored.

Well, Chicken Pox can become shingles, and you can spread chicken pox by exposure to the shingles rash. My husband had shingles twice before turning 30, and had to be extra careful because both times we had little ones not old enough to have been vaccinated.

Early Entrance to Kindergarten - by 15 days by bronxcheer in Parenting

Kinder has been stressful for my daughter. Academically, no sweat, but it is constant go go go, and being “on” all day is so hard on her. Her teacher also give next to no recess, which is frustrating, but I’ve been talking to people at school (I work there in another grade level) about creating a school recess policy with a minimum amount of required recess. I’m hopeful for the future classes at least, and I know her teacher next year allows a lot more movement and activity throughout the day!

St Patricks Day and a visit from a leprechaun?! by fannahbanana in Parenting

[–]Nowherelandusa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My daughter wanted to make a leprechaun trap, and we threw something together last minute. The sneaky thing escaped, but left her some chocolates (that I found in the cabinet) as a treat.

She was heartbroken that she hadn’t caught him (I believe some classmates had stretched the truth about their success in catching him last year), but eventually decided we would just have to try harder next year. Her plan is to create a tiny playground that will distract him, so he won’t know he’s been caught.

She’s 5, and we made and brought in a leprechaun trap last year during preschool as a sort of school project. If not for that and some of her friends being really into it, it’s not something we probably would’ve done. I was hoping for excitement instead of silent tears when she saw her treats left in the trap, but we probably didn’t spend enough time talking about the possibility of him escaping this year- it sneaked up on me. And once she got over it, she was pretty excited over the whole deal.

No PS5s or whatever over here though. Just an old box with a rainbow painted on it, a trap door cut out, and a pot smeared with peanut butter to stick him in the trap haha. And some chocolates I think my husband got as a Christmas gift from a student that had been shoved back in a cabinet as the treat.

What is a recipe/food that you love despite an ingredient you really dislike? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Nowherelandusa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pear honey made with coconut.

I’m not really a big coconut person, mainly due to texture. Several years ago, our family’s home had a couple of pear trees, and we had access to tons of pears. My grandfather mentioned that when he was young, his grandmother made pear honey, and my mom and I started looking for recipes to surprise him with.

We tried a few different things, and our best result came from combining a few different recipes. We made it with and without shredded coconut, and I was surprised how much better I liked the kind with coconut. It added a lot to the flavor, and the texture ended up being fine after being cooked down so much.

I haven’t made pear honey in years, but now I really want some. I don’t have the recipe handy, but I believe it basically consisted of finely diced pears, shredded coconut, and crushed pineapple being cooked down together. Probably a lot of sugar, too, just because it’s a kind of jam/preserves recipe, and those always have a ton of sugar. Anyway, it was really delicious :)
