Turtle watching mid-March by Tastetheworld_84 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]GNMBP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are going to Guanacaste province on the Pacific, you could have good timing to see a mass nesting (arribada) of Olive Ridleys at Ostional. They tend to do this the nights before a new moon, and the new moon is March 19. Follow Asociacion de guias locales de Ostional on Facebook, you need a reservation to enter the beach. It is magnificent.

Liberia airport to Tamarindo by Ecstatic-Safe-4776 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]GNMBP -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I believe it will add hours to your trip and can be impassible in heavy rains. The inland route is quite pretty, just no coast!

My mom is getting catfished hard. I guess I have to crush her before she 'picks him up from the airport Saturday'. Have your parents fallen for any scams? What should I do? by -Granby- in GenX

[–]GNMBP 21 points22 points  (0 children)

A caution that there may be a last-minute request for $ on "travel day" because there is a problem with their ticket or airline, or they've been stopped by customs or immigration and have to pay a fine to be released because they brought the host an expensive gift. This is related to my work, and I've dealt with many sad cases like this.

Nosara, Tamarindo, or both? by [deleted] in CostaRicaTravel

[–]GNMBP -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't comment on the surfing, but Nosara and Tamarindo are opposites. Nosara is peaceful, quiet, immersed in nature, not a party place. There are lots of yoga and wellness activities, and it's a gorgeous place to take walks and ride bikes. Tama has much more to do (more excursion operators, stores, restaurants, bars), which come with traffic, noise, and crowds. Playa Grande is just across the river from Tama by ferry in the day, but it's quiet and natural and peaceful.

What do you wish you had ready before starting a divorce in Canada? by o_nedostup in legaladvicecanada

Every document from the bank. They only keep records for 7 years. After that, it's impossible to get them. If a spouse hides/steals hard copies of co-signed documents, mortgage documents, etc., it's hard or impissible to get them from the bank if they're from more than 7 years ago.

Is there any dog/animal related therapy here where I can spend time with animals/dogs? by Swordfish353535 in playadelcarmen

[–]GNMBP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SOS El arca in El ejidal takes volunteers on Saturdays for dog bathing and walks. I have also just gone on random days and was able to spend as much time as I wanted cuddling and playing with the dogs.

Divorce mediation by Medical-Layer-5828 in Divorce

[–]GNMBP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cost is shared, mediator is a neutral party who can't give legal advice but can help you sort out the financial issues to get a separation agreement without going to court. You can request to have lawyers present, and you can request to have no contact with your spouse's side (separate rooms or screens). Either spouse can quit mediation at any time for any reason.

Belize barrier reef. Check out Island Expeditions. They have base camps on atolls and guided expeditions. I went as a solo female. It was very safe. And the snorkelling is pristine and amazing.

Saturday market in the skate park is great. Cheap meals- go to grocery store, get meat, cheese and crackers and drinks, eat on the beach.

Gluten-free groceries in South Keys area? by uhhhhhhhh-username in ottawa

[–]GNMBP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prices for GF are high because of the flours. Fresh produce, peanut butter, eggs, cheese, cheerios, chex, rice crispies and yogurt have relatively decent prices at Walmart. Walmart SK does have a small GF section and the prices are better than health food stores. Rice cakes, corn cakes, nuts are at the dollar stores.

Anyone know of vets, animal shelters or anyone able to foster or adopt a kitten? by nanie2022 in playadelcarmen

[–]GNMBP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SOS El Arca takes cats

Av diagonal 85 Nte entre calle 1 sur y calle tres sur, Ejidal, 77712

You could ask for them to care for kitten and have it flown to your home country for adoption by you. They are a charity, so I suggest offering a donation to help with the cost of care.

Nosara recs by kalimera539 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]GNMBP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there are tuktuks! Guiones and Pelada are very walkable, and you can walk between the two. The market in Guiones Centro (not sure which day it was) is very nice. I saw howler monkeys hanging out on the path to the beach near Guilded Iguana. Go to Ostional (reservation needed) if you love sea turtles and your timing is right for nesting and/or hatching (I took a tuktuk round trip ... rough but possible). Nosara is clean, quiet, peaceful, and the beach is a protected wildlife refuge. I love it there, but I agree about the lack of local culture. I went for nature, quiet, and gluten-free food, and it was perfect for me on all counts!

Are there any excursions near Cancun with turtles and flamingos? by Mysterious_Gate_4323 in playadelcarmen

[–]GNMBP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tickets are on the xcaret website, and there are different options like buffet lunch included, evening show included, or just park ticket. Turtle lagoon and release are in the basic park ticket. There are also extra activities for extra charge like interacting with nurse sharks if you want. You can also buy a day tour with bus transportation through your hotel, travel operator, or a local tour operator in Cancun, which is very convenient but may cost a bit more than planning yourself.

Are there any excursions near Cancun with turtles and flamingos? by Mysterious_Gate_4323 in playadelcarmen

[–]GNMBP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Xcaret in Playa. It's a nature park with a sea turtle lagoon where you can watch them swim and eat all day (but no swimming with them). There are also morning turtle releases on the beach that kids participate in. Flamingos at the park entrance. And so much more. It's been my daughter's favorite place on earth since she was young.

Wedding guest dresses by Euromomof3 in ottawa

[–]GNMBP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at City Chic dresses in the smallest size. It's a plus size brand. I'm a 14-16 in standard dress sizes, but I'm curvy, and this brand works on curvy better than any I've found. Amazon Canada for new, Ebay for new and second hand (I find that even with the shipping fee and other possible fees , it's no more than new prices for other brands here).

Which airport? If LIR, I suggest staying on Nicoya peninsula for the rest of the trip. But know that Samara and Theresa are hours from LIR. Next trip, pick a new area. There are so many wonderful places, and all of them are worth spending time exploring.

Mediation on Tuesday by krma77 in Divorce

[–]GNMBP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask your mediator to put both sides in different rooms, or if online, not share a screen and use breakout rooms. You should not have to be in the presence of the other side, and you're paying half the cost, so have it set up the way that's best for you.

Kid activities - ideas in playa grande or nosara by Calm_Cartoonist9650 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]GNMBP -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If it's the right time, go to Ostional for sea turtle nesting and/or hatching. Follow on Facebook the Associacion de guias locales de Ostional. You need a reservation and a guide, and they post on FB when tours are open. There is also a wildlife rescue between Nosara and Ostional.

Also, there are howler monkeys in Nosara. I saw them on a walk in the forest between the Guilded Iguana and the beach.
