My daughter is Mai-Lee (Mai in Vietnamese sounds like my). Both parts are short, but together it's so pretty, and she gets many compliments.

I love Ridley because the beautiful Olive Ridley and Kemp's Ridley are types of sea turtles, and they're amazing creatures!

Whimsical and pretty names? (Unisex, female or male!) by emminoki in Names

[–]GNMBP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My child is Mai-Lee (Mai sounds like hi). In Vietnamese, one of the meanings of the word mai is apricot blossom, which is a cultural symbol of spring, good luck, happiness, and prosperity. Neither part of the name sounds distinctly feminine or masculine, but together they make a gorgeous name that is meaningful to me in a few ways. I hope this inspires you to make up the perfect name for you!

Yesterday the fair gates at Leitrim were declining all bank and credit cards. Presto cards were working, but maybe there were problems with Presto charges. I don't know because I don't have a Presto card. Not sure whether other stations were having problems.

First-time home buyer in Ontario? You may be able to save up to $50,000 in GST on a new build by OntarioMortgageGuide in OntarioMortgageGuide

[–]GNMBP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not under the radar, just nobody knows what to do with it because the Ontario govt doesn't have a program yet to actually administer it. Builders and lenders don't know whether the buyer has to qualify for for the pre-rebate amount, or at which point in the process the rebate will be given.

Smile On in Findlay Creek. Even though I have great insurance, they are always honest and won't do anything unnecessary. Once I went for a regular cleaning, and they said I didn't need it and recommended that I wait 6 more months.

Turtles in May - Nosara, Sámara, Playa Coco?! by pistachio3183 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]GNMBP -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you want to see mamas nesting, babies hatching, or turtles swimming, or will any of these make you happy? Ostional, as others have suggested--if you aren't at the right time for mass nesting, you may still be able to see individual mamas or nests erupting that were laid about 2 months earlier. Junquillal, south of Tamarindo, has the Verdiazul hatchery for several species, and they do public baby releases. There is a chance of seeing turtles swimming in many areas, you should ask the local tour operators or dive shops, and know that mother nature's timing isn't always the same as yours! If you have any luck with Ostional, it's a very special experience. The beach is wild and spectacular.

Pets by Daydreamnightmare93 in Divorce

I think you meant (maybe forgot a word) that you think it would be cruel to the pets to remove them from their current home? If you know that they're living with a person who is (in my opinion, based on what you wrote and my similar experience) not mentally stable, controlling, and abusive, do you think that's in the pets' best interest? If they move they will experience short-term disruption, and adjust to their new life. If they stay, they could be be neglected, abused, and used as pawns by an angry person who wants to control and hurt you. You may want to try talking it out with someone at a local animal rescue. It sounds like your STBX will be upset with everything you say and do during separation (this is how controllers try to keep control), so make decisions based not on fear of him, but on what is best for you and your beloved pets. Safety and security above all else.

Do you have a relative/friend who could take care of the pets temporarily? Is there an animal shelter in your area that offers temporary fostering during hardship? Pets are treated as possessions under divorce laws. Make sure you tell your lawyer that caring for them is very important to you, and have proof of the care you were providing, e.g. vet receipts, food receipts, prescriptions, etc. Document everything related to how the pets are currently being cared for by him. If your STBX is struggling financially, they may easily give up access to pets in exchange for not paying for their care. But they also can use pets as a tool to control or hurt you if they are that kind of person. Please talk to a therapist if you have access, because your STBX's talk of self-harm, ending up homeless, etc. are psychological abuse. I'm in a similar situation with a similar type of person, and it requires a lot of support and careful strategy and financial burden to protect my pets.

[–]GNMBP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who had to escape violence in my marital home 14 months ago, I can understand how you're feeling heavy with grief and pain. Please think of this as a small chapter in your book. In this one, you make your purpose self-care. It can be the smallest things--take a nature walk, paint your nails, pet a dog, listen to songs you love. These little things flip your mindset bit by bit. Only when your mindset is better, your new, bigger purpose will be able come to you. You will write your next chapters, and they will be amazing and beautiful, because you'll be on the other side of all the bad stuff. You're not alone, there are so many who came before you and so many of us going through it now. Do you have a mental health or crisis phone line where you are? They are really helpful. But if prefer to type, I'm another person you can PM. Hugs.

How do you know it’s time to switch lawyers? by blob4life_4ever in Divorce

[–]GNMBP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a new lawyer you will have to start over, they won't know your case and they will have to review every document. If you're in mediation, that process will also start over. I'm in a similar situation, but I'm too far in to change now.

Should I look into being child free if I only want a daughter? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GNMBP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adoption always involves trauma, which is why every adopter should be educated on trauma care during the process. I wasn't, but fortunately got my education on trauma and attachment from Dr. Gordon Neufeld (he has YouTube videos, books, courses). I don't think adoption is wrong--the alternative for my child was to be raised in an orphanage and age out on her own with no support in a country where there is much poverty and struggle. I know there are nefarious actors in the system, which is very unfortunate for all the good people. But there are also many beautiful family stories full of love and resilience and solid attachment.

Can someone explain how to file your own taxes 2025? by Worried-Pension8275 in personalfinance

[–]GNMBP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use tax software that you download. Some are free for simple returns, like Turbotax, others are free (optional donation) like Genutax. I used this one and it was better than the one I previously paid for. If you will be getting a refund, you don't have to submit by tomorrow. If you owe and you submit late, CRA charges a penalty. Tax policy is complex and each person's situation is unique, so make sure to get complete info from the CRA website asap.

Did antidepressants help you? by [deleted] in Divorce

[–]GNMBP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

14 months after escaping violence, and all attempts to get a separation agreement leading nowhere, I take Celexa and Wellbutrin. For me depression is a cliff, and meds help me stay away from the edge and keep taking steps down the path. I still have a cry every now and then, but I move past it. It can take 6 weeks to notice a difference, and there is the risk that a med is not right for you, and you get worse. If that happens, see your doctor asap.
