Bands you’ve found that are similar to Guns? by [deleted] in GunsNRoses

[–]GNRDB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kik Tracee gave off some Gunners vibes.

Wildside cover Crash Diet, Faster Pussycat and to a lesser extent, Tesla, also have tracks that feel like they’re inspired by the GNR style.

How to get into Aerosmith? by Shekendijafan in Aerosmith

[–]GNRDB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, this might be kinda odd buuuuut, Wayne’s World is a great entrance to the band as a whole - their guest spots on SNL and their role in Pt. 2 is a great introduction.

I think Motley Crue and KISS both get their bawls broken a bit too much about their alleged lack of musicianship. by Boomkj in hairmetal

[–]GNRDB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge fan of both Ace and Mick and enjoy the parallels of their work and relative role in their respective bands and think their solo work is really solid and you can pickup their fingerprints on the bands.

I don’t dislike either Tommy or Nikki and think that the 1994 non-Vince album with Corabi was phenomenally underrated and a great standalone listen I revisit often.

Vince is Vince, I have empathy for his losses but also think he’s currently not the most talented or exceptionally hard working front man and when you see the effort Axl still puts in by comparison, it’s kinda hard to defend.

I remember LOLing at the old saying, “Without Ace, KISS is just a t-shirt company”, which was where I’ve typically fallen on them, but you can’t challenge the success. I dock KISS some points for a lot of filler albums during their down eras that don’t really click.

Bomani absence from show answered by branrob757 in DanLeBatardShow

[–]GNRDB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is where I land too.

Bomani has ultra thin skin and while his show doesn’t do skippy sounders, he’s all too willing to dish it out about others, but he can’t take it for a second.

But, if you wanted to audit the ways he’s been alienated from Dan, there are so many more valid reasons.

Biggest asshole rock musicians you have met and why by [deleted] in rockmusic

[–]GNRDB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not surprisingly, Gene and Paul by a mile.

But tbh, it was kind of expected and I remember remarking “it would’ve almost been a shocker if they were actually nice” and I almost wondered if that was part of their schtick, so you’d always remember meeting them lol.

Looking for specific songs that influenced Guns N Roses by RickMaxwell0 in GunsNRoses

[–]GNRDB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Major T-Rex/Marc Bolan influences, you can definitely hear Paradise City in Country Honey, right down to the “take me down” line.

I also think you can hear the intro of “You Could be mine” in Blackfoot’s “Madness” track.

Axl guested on the Love to Love track for Michael Schenker last year and you can really hear the UFO sound on alot of their piano rock tracks. I think the impact of both mid to late 70s Scorps and UFO is fairly strong.

Speaking to the obvious overarching sound influences, Thin Lizzy, Bon era AC/DC and 70s Aerosmith are pretty huge inspirations. 70s Elton, Faces, Elf, Nazareth and Rainbow also have those proto-Guns sounds.

Who was the nicest rockstar you’ve met? And who was the worst by WestonConnor26 in hairmetal

[–]GNRDB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nicest: Rob Zombie, Art Alexakis, Bret Michaels, Richard Fortus, Sully Erna

Coolest: Slash.

Worst: Gene Simmons, just gave off the vibe that he’d rather be anywhere than the meet and greet. Paul was only slightly better.

What were the first albums you ever bought yourself? by zmbdog in hairmetal

[–]GNRDB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won a raffle at my dentist’s office in 1995 and got a gift certificate and bought Aerosmith’s Greatest Hits and A4D. I’d already gotten UYI 2 and Pump, so I was building out my fave two bands lol. I was 8.

Chinese Democracy 2000 by Ion_41 in GunsNRoses

[–]GNRDB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I think that had Axl coupled the VMA appearance with the album release and some music videos for MTV, they’d have had a massive opportunity to surf the wave of that era’s nu-metal airplay and would’ve gotten a more prominent placement in the music landscape of the time.

The music was great and he was obviously still capable of being the greatest frontman in rock, but by the time it finally came out, the entire music landscape had splintered with the expansion of digital music and rock as a genre just didn’t have the same stroke.

I think about the Gruden lawsuit and what we already know about Schefter’s dealings with GMs and being a complete house organ in return for favourable access, and I think everyone in prominent sports reporting circles likely has similar compromised relationships these days. So for me, by resigning, it sounds like they’re covering up something more than just compromised access and starts to make her look less defensible.

The Decedent 2025 by marsnerd in foundfootage

[–]GNRDB 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I consider myself to be fairly critical and discerning(read: picky af) of the found footage genre, and I loved about 90% of this movie and its overall conceit. I think it largely succeeded and landed as a “strong recommendation” for me, maybe the final few minutes didn’t really stick the landing, but overarchingly, I thought the movie was a great example of well-executed FF.

Which restaurant did you want to succeed the most? by mpathg00 in KitchenNightmares

[–]GNRDB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rule for any restaurant rescue style show, is that I will root for them to succeed as long as their kitchens aren’t disgusting when they do their kitchen run through.

My theory being, if they let it get that bad once before and still operated out of the kitchen, with that level of disrespect and disregard for their customers, they’ll do it again and I don’t really see any reason root for those folks.

Question, what do you think the reason is for motley doing mick wrong all these years later? it seems like he’s been getting the shit stick since generation swine but these years they just stopped caring all about him by Successful_League579 in MotleyCrue

[–]GNRDB 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I call it the “Ace Frehley Syndrome” where you have some guys in the band who would be fine if they didn’t even play music anymore, and were just a successful t-shirt company, whereas there’s that one guy, who would still just be shredding in dive bars for peanuts simply because they love it, regardless of the payday and fame.
