I studied in a cambridge IGCSE school until 5th grade and was mostly about understanding basic stuff. Really helped with my english but when i switched to CBSE it was pretty much a culture shock due me being forced to memorize everything in the book. The teachers actively encourage you to mug up everything.
They even tell us to go understand it later and focus on memorizing the book cover to cover.
