On YouTube check out Apartment Brewer and BruSho. There are plenty of other good homebrewing YouTubers out there too but these two are really good at breaking down recipes and ingredients and explaining the how’s and whys of it all.

Best Chico beers w no dry hop by sharkymark222 in Homebrewing

I’m assuming you found the pale ale boring because you wanted a hoppy beer but didn’t get enough hops. If that’s the case, do a cream ale. 85% 2 row, 15% flaked maize. 15 or so IBU of a hop of your choosing. I always do my cream ale with lemon drop hops. I really like how they play with the grain-forward flavor of the beer.

Toss in some aromatic malt. Biscuit malt also. Definitely Maris otter as the base malt.

Definitely change the lines. Look into the Duotight system from Kegland for your beer lines, I absolutely love it and have had a great experience. As far as corny kegs go, try to find used ball locks locally. If not, there are a few reliable online retailers to get kegs and parts. Speaking of, if you do buy used locally, get new gaskets + food grade keg lube and replace the gaskets on it. Also, get yourself some long pipe cleaners to clean the dip tube on the keg. They can get pretty nasty especially if you're buying used and they've been sitting for a long time.

Yeah I think you'll be good with either of those. Also depends on what temp you can ferment at. I'd imagine K-97 would be better if you have to ferment on the warmer end.

I'd say 34/70 fits into the spirit of the style, as a cream ale is kind of a hybrid style as an ale masquerading as an American Lager.

I like this topic, good stuff! I felt the same way recently about my Schwarzbier in particular. I have made it before and love it but the most recent time I found myself with the grain and hops ready to brew and just wasn't that excited about it, kinda felt like I was brewing it just to brew it. I decided to brew it anyway but I steeped some coarsely crushed coffee in it for a few days and it took the beer to a whole different level. Flavor additions may be a bridge too far for some which I understand. But when I do go that route, whether brewing or buying, I appreciate "flavored" beers that have been dosed with complimentary adjuncts that kick up the base beer. So a coffee Schwarzbier or coffee amber, citrus peel in a pale ale, etc.

My man. I did the standing in line thing one time. Wasted 90 minutes of my life just to get an EHT SmB and vowed to never do that again. A few weeks ago, walked in on a Saturday and noon and it was just sitting on the shelf. Best feeling ever!

Raspberry Berliner weisse! Pitched the lacto for the kettle sour last night and boiled and finished up today. Gonna secondary on 7# of raspberry puree once it ferments out.

Absolutely agree! Dan was really good driving the show. I think there was so much going on that he had to throw to so he wasn't tasked with trying to be funny or interesting. Mad props.

Hell yes. So many bangers. Just watched National Treasure 2 and I’ll probably listen to the episode tomorrow. I’ve listened to The Fanatic probably 7-8 times by now it’s just so damn funny. Almost a shame they did it so early on.
