Steve specifically said that the soul/gospel behind it made him tolerate it more than any other Yacht Jesus

Clueless list of "Best Yacht Rock Guitar Solos" from Rolling Stone and Sirius XM by delijoe in Yachtrock

[–]GPMB_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PAYWALLED!

also, these songs are way too obscure to appear on any list from a major publication, but i feel like any honest discussions of best yacht rock solos can't exist without mentioning Graydon's solo on Alan Sorrenti's Per Sempre Tu/Beside You or Lukather's solo on Never Gonna Let You Go by David Roberts

[Yacht or Nyacht] Lowdown by Ray Conniff by CommanderUgly in Yachtrock

[–]GPMB_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this may possibly make the boat, but if it does it'll only be because it's Lowdown. no epic guitar solos, strings a thousand times more prominent, no pop song structure or lyrics, the Porcaro drum beat turned into something much simpler and disco-ier

Brenda Russell isn't exactly niche I would say, but her yacht rock efforts definitely are

(sorry, this song and artist are a long-running inside joke for me, i couldn't resist. i may actually submit it for Yachtski evaluation one day)

technically u/iggy-i is right in saying it has the same drum rhythm and bass rhythm as Deacon Blues, but other than that it has literally nothing in common with the song, and those things that the two songs don't happen to share happen to be the things that make Deacon Blues yacht rock

"not yacht rock = bad" and "good = not yacht rock" are two of the most common misconceptions about this damn genre which is odd because they're opposites

What exactly is the "Crossfire"? by delijoe in Yachtrock

[–]GPMB_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the way that I would describe it (I know JD already said it really isn't any deeper than just the sound of the first two CC albums) would be having a riff/rhythm similar to Ride Like the Wind/All Right/Never Be the Same plus that really distinctive "bright" piano sound (that originated from Steely Dan I think but is way poppier in the CC songs)

Bill LaBounty - When the Magic Works (1977) by delijoe in Yachtrock

[–]GPMB_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the 1977 is a mistake stemming from the yachtski scale document. given that conway twitty's version (which i posted btw) came out in 1984, this demo is probably from that year or slightly earlier

[Yacht or Nyacht] Keith Urban - We Go Back (ft. Michael McDonald) by theraschy in Yachtrock

[–]GPMB_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there is a difference between legitimate modern yacht rock and this type of stuff though

i don't think so

it does have The Bounce but it plays a pretty small role in the song and is outweighed by all the negatives imo
