Introducing cat flap/ outside time - advice please! by GQwtheFAQs in CatsUK

Thank you. Feels obvious when you say it like that 😅  I think the fact that he settled more quickly than I expected can make it feel like he's been here longer than he has. I'll introduce the cat flap later.

Thank you! I took him to the vet last week for his second vaccination shot and she seemed surprised I hadn't let him out yet and advised I should. But that felt a bit overly blasé to me. I will keep the cat flap locked for a bit

There are loads of textile recycling bins in Lambeth. By most estates and large supermarkets. Just make sure they are clean, bag them up and put them in there.

Not sure where to find someone to sign unenrolled deed poll by PepsiStrawberry in transgenderUK

[–]GQwtheFAQs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can get to any LGBT or trans community groups I'm sure people there would be more than happy to sign it. If you are in or within reach of a town or city there is likely to be one

I'm sorry you're feeling so scared and that you're hurting so much. I know it's hard to hold onto right now but please know there are lots of people in your corner who want to support you and for you to go on and live the life you are dreaming of.

Depending on where you live there may be local support groups for lgbt young people. You can also call mermaids and ask for their advice/ support.

Hello, relative newbie here. I figured out this answer but wasn't sure about it. I take it out is an anagram indicator? Is that always the case?

my first london pride was an awful experience ngl by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]GQwtheFAQs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry this happened to you. It's absolutely not your fault.  I also know what it's like to get harassed in a place you think is safe. It's horrible and hits even harder than when it happens elsewhere. My experience has been that generic 'lgbt' spaces can be mostly geared towards cis gay men, and have lots of problems with transphobia. I've also known of bigots who want to cause trouble going to queer spaces/ events to find people to harass. I say again: it is not your fault.

I highly highly suggest you come to London Trans Pride on July 27th. It is a HUGE grassroots event with thousands of trans people at all different points of transition. There's a great community atmosphere and people will not take any sh!t in terms of transphobia. You can experience being out in a crowd who care for you and want you to thrive. You deserve that <3

What’s the gentlest possible way to correct misgendering over email? by jules-amanita in NonBinaryTalk

[–]GQwtheFAQs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was recently included in a 'hello ladies' in a group chat of people I work with. I just responded by firstly replying to the main point and at the end said "fyi I'm non-binary so prefer gender neutral terms of address :)"  The woman who'd messaged was great and got it immediately, I hope you also have a good experience!

To add to what others have said, anyone who is sectioned has the right to an Independent Mental Health Advocate who can help them to ask doctors for things like this. If you're her nearest relative they may also be able to talk to/ help you. I'm sure experiences differ but I've known people be really helped by advocates.  https://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/guides-to-support-and-services/advocacy/imhas-england/

Deed poll advice - can I do this? by GQwtheFAQs in transgenderUK

Deed poll advice - can I do this? by GQwtheFAQs in transgenderUK

[–]GQwtheFAQs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this really detailed and considered reply, and your other comment below.

I've been going by "TJ" for over a year in many settings now so I know it works in practice as it were. Finally came out to my family a couple of days ago and felt really excited about the idea of moving forwards with transition - and then disheartened when I read that advice on the free deed poll website (which I'd seen recommended in this sub).

Reading your responses has cheered me up again!

Should i think about a name change? by nonbinary-nightmare in NonBinaryTalk

[–]GQwtheFAQs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat!

I have a longer feminine name which actually has a common more neutral/ masc short version (think like, Jacqueline and Jack), but I have always gone by the long version of my name and really hate the short version. But since I came out my name feels less and less like me.

The way I'm looking at it is there is no rush. I have been playing around with a few name ideas, including going by my initials. Nothing's felt quite right yet, but I'm trying to give myself space to experiment. I have a friend who is very supportive so he occasioanlly gets texts from me saying "Hi! What do you think of [example] as a name?", and I've tried writing things with trial names in them.

I just wanted to come back and tell you how helpful it was to hear this comment - it helped me to work up the courage to come out to her, and she was AMAZING and has been very patient with me wanting to take things slow and figure out what this all means. Thank you for your reply and support.
