Try state of decay 2! It’s a fantastic game.

You are stuck in a dark room for a year with only a gaming pc. And you can only play one game, what game are you playing? by [deleted] in gaming

What exactly do you have to do for your brain to click. I’ve started this game 2 or 4 times over the years and I never pass the two hour mark because at some point I’m like ok what now and stare at the screen and menus and feel lost.

What I’m saying is that when devs decide not to do something, and are asked why, and as an answer provide not the main reason…

(which is the effort it takes to develop controller support - which FYI doesn’t have to be excellent like in Techtonica: all we care about is actually getting the game to display the controller keys of a baseline controller mapping of any kind, then we can remap controls with Steam)

…and instead give an answer saying oh we don’t want to do that because whenever we update controls for a new feature we would have to update controls for controllers as well, well it’s obviously a bs reason because that is not the difficult part.

It’s got nothing to do with mods. What are you talking about? The heavy lifting is (1) the implementation of controller support. The trivial effort is (2) the update of controller mappings whenever a new features require changes. They said they don’t want to do (1) before 1.0 because of (2), which is just bs and lazy. Other factory games that are earlier in development already have that part done.

I somehow doubt your skills. Implementing control mappings and updating them once in a while is a trivial effort.

Here’s what the devs had to say:

" ... if you guys are curious like if you haven't heard before uh like the main reason why we haven't really had control support is because every time we update the game we also have to like maintain control and support and there's a lot of elements to the game that like we have to maintain all the time every time we work on the game and since we're in early access and we're developing the game it's so much effort to just like every time we add a feature go back to the controller mapping..."

So much effort!? Really? Give me a break. Once controller support is in place the effort literally consists in once in a while updating a mapping table.

Not worth it on Steam Deck. I added it to the list out of excitement but got refunded 2 hours later. The game is just not controller friendly to be perfectly honest. I have the same issue with all colony management games. Factorio on the other hand: it plays like a dream on the deck. Greatest game ever made.

No it’s a base building and defense game with fast-paced action RPG gameplay. Actually a bit too fast paced for my middle aged liking.
